Nile Rodgers, confirmed collaborator on album four, wrote about his recent trip to Japan in his blog. He spoke fondly of the country, reminiscing the passing of his long-time partner Bernard Edwards in 1996 and his band’s performance in the aftermath of the earthquake, tsunami and Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster in April 2011. The history he has with Japan makes it all the more interesting when readers reach the final paragraph:
The next time I set foot in Japan, my collaboration with Daft Punk would have started to hit people’s eardrums, as well as a number of songs I’m working on over the next few months with a select group of artists, and of course finally, my lost CHIC and solo material. No matter how it ends, 2013 Won’t Be Boring!
Although it’s ambiguous, this seems to suggest that we’ll have some more Daft Punk on our iPods by the end of the year! A welcome relief for fans of the French duo. Unfortunately, we do not know for sure when Rodgers will be returning to Japan but forum member lakar2 discovered evidence on Rodgers’ Twitter page that he has visited Japan every April for the past three years. Can we expect this pattern to continue? For now, all we can do is cross our fingers and wait.
