I have a debate in history tomorrow in which I am pro-american on the subject of the US acquiring the Phillipines pro-Spanish-American War.

Haha I'm just wonder if anyone here is a true history buff and could help me out.

imperialism is always fun to defend D: good luck with that, broyo. i feel your pain though because i got stuck on some bad sides of history debates back in high school.

Fortunately im pro-american, and there's really nothing we can't defend in turn haha. I got uberlucky.

i do remember the Maine explosion being the official reason for the US intervention, if that helps.

yup that sparked the Spanish-American War. My situation is before that, though.

well... we didnt have a debate. but we were learning that monday and wednesday.

well, anyway, iknow you probably already did your debate (sorry i couldnt get on the forum to help you out) but basically the phillippines were a big strategic post for the united states navy. it opened up trade with japan and prevented... the spanish from taking the british port in hong kong, if im correct? im not sure.

new jersey's curriculum might be very similar to mine, but im not entirely sure on that.
