View Full Version : Darling Records - possible Guy Man involvement

Hey did a search but couldn't find anything about this.

A new label has been started up by a fella called Axel Le Baron and Rico The Wizard, with the intent to recapture the glory days of Crydamoure etc.

For those who may not know, Rico The WIzard is Eric Chedeville, who started up Crydamoure with Guy Man, and also his partner in crime in Le Knight Club.

I read an interview where Axel stated that they are working on getting Guy Man to do some work for the label. Whether thats remixing or original work I don't know but thought this would be cool to throw this out there.

Check out their pages below - the stuff sounds really cool, and theres a Mix set available on the Darling main site, which heavily features a lot of DP and LKC.

Diggin' the Axel mix. Sounds like a mashup one of us would've made, but with better equipment.

I'm so exited about the future of this label. So much potential.

So far, what I've heard is that Chedeville is only collaborating with new tracks for the label. The label is owned solely by Julien Kourbatoff & Axel Le Baron.

I read that their second release is going to be a single by Rico The Wizard though.

Oh yeah, that is confirmed. DARLING 002.

By the way, I bought Primary School... all that I can say is that this is an authentic flashback to the 90's French house we all love. Absolute bliss.

i really liked it from the sample i heard on that one page.

but i don't have a turntable so it's not like i could hear it if i did buy it.

Yep my mistake there - Chedevill eis indeed only providing tracks for the label - cheers Albator for clearing that up.

B.E.A.S.M. - Rico The Wizard is Eric Chedeville ;)

Piro - do a bit of blog searching. Vinyl isn't the only way to listen to Primary School, and I think the label have missed out by not making it digitally available sooner ;)

Thought I'd throw this out there...

Was browsing the FtF and Daftworlds (DP megafan) blog and saw he had a pic of a Guy Man autograph on there dated 09, and said about it that a friend got it when he met GM whilst he was out with 'The Baron'....Axel Le Baron? Can't be anyone else really.

Music Is The Danger is killer - played it at a party last night and went down well - not bad considering they are all used to top 40 ****e....be sure to check out Spell Of Love too...this label could become legendary if they keep going the way they are right now.

Jaymo on bbc radio one said Music Is The Danger might be the Music Sounds Better With You of the new French house movement.

Speaking of which: Who made it? Ive seen in your last.fm that it was Axel who did it, but mine is tagged as Julien Kourbatoff - Music Is The Danger (Axel le Baron Edit)

My guess is that Axel and Julien created it together and that's why they said it was by Darling Records.

Back to Music Is The Danger:

Unless the original is an absolute killer track, this edit doesnt have what it takes to become the new MSBWY. Its missing that hint of magic, that bassline, that micro sample, those catchy lyrics, etc...

I believe that Darling will bring back french house TO A POINT, but then just become stale again, just like their parents (Crydamoure and Roule).

And if more labels and artists start to come quickly, this movement wont last long.

If I didn't notice that that was Technologic, there'd be something wrong with me ;)

I noticed that this mix is alot of Alan Braxe and Fred Falke. I'd expect this mix to have alot of crydamoure. Coco Girlz maybe. But I love Roulé equally.

I didn't know AB + FF did this many mixes. Must get some more of their stuff.

Who made Run, Forever, and Rock and Dolls? I'm guesssing Axel?

Quite Crydamour-y.

Rock and Dollls - Might be a reference to Rock n' Roll? I think they would all fit as daft punk tributes.

What's the story of Crydamoury, wouldn't you like to know :D

EDIT: It's not gone forever! You have to type "index2.html" to access the label. That's weird.

I'm pretty sure it's legit.

On the MySpace you can see three pictures of the artists, the one to the left is Julien Kourbatoff (I can't spell it off the top of my head), the middle is Axel Le Baron for sure, and the thing on the right... I don't know.

Also there're studio pictures on the facebook page, the one I linked, that show them all three in the studio...

So... Yeah

It seems they claim that the alien looking thing is called..."Awilum".

I hope it still sounds like French house music....maybe we'll get more info when this happens?:

Axel Le Baron - For Pleasure !!! @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bL3tbLm15aI

This track;s got the real filter effect that reminds me of Roulé. Unfortunately its not very catchy but I think this label does better when it comes to reviving the French filter house. Artists like Louis La Roche and Poka don't make tunes who get me back to the 90's with the French house sound (except The Peach EP, that one was more like Cassius). It's more like disco house and sometimes you can hear its just looping.

That reminds me of this quote retweeted by Boys Noize:
“Isn’t club music always loop-oriented? The art is to keep a loop interesting!” (http://twitter.com/boysnoize/status/12533299789). That's absolutely right. For instance, Thomas Bangalters edit of Alan Braxe's Vertigo is all about some loops with filters and variations but it's not even noticeable. Now that's quality.

Baloo
10th May 2010, 20:42
Now see, I like that kind of Disco house with the same loop over and over again, with a tad bit of variety in there. But that's just me.

Yes. I'm pretty sure Darling Records is just a Disco-House project by some other people. The name most likely inspired by where Thomas & Guy first started.

Okay, so here's the thing. After browsing through FTF and previous Facebook posts, I learned that the thing with alien Awilum, is a band name. The wierd space sounding trio of Axel Le Baron, Awilum and Julien Kourbatoff is called Darling, not to be confused with Darling Records.
Darling (the band) is a side project and they are releasing on Darling Records, I think Darling 004 is going to be by them, but anyway here's a preview of their new track, "**** This Bitch" http://www.bravinthemix.com/archive/2010/05/26/darling-records-du-lourd-en-perspective.html
