Ok, it's time. I've seen the movie. You probably won't believe me, but Flynn Lives sent out an email blast and facebook message out this afternoon revealing secret, FREE, TRON screenings across the US.
http://www.flynnlives.com/electrify/
I went to the theater, in Thomas Bangalter helmet, and loved it.:happy2: Absolutely fantastic. I've personally been wrestling with my own opinions on Daft Punk's score, the tracks really helped make the film, the soundtrack is superb. Everything was better and had more context with the story and the visuals joined with the music. Daft's cameo was sweet, as expected. The story was largely fresh and kept me well entertained and in awe. Visuals fantastic. Absolutely loved it. Plus, I got an aweosme Flynn Lives pin out of it too! I'll have to post some pictures soon, along with my Thomas Helmet I finished in early October.

GO SEE IT!

ah, beat me to making this thread!

and im glad you said you loved it, because recently ive been taking to looking up reviews of the movie and... well... they aren't that good. critics are saying the visuals and score are the best parts of the movie, and that the screenplay is terrible, the acting is mediocre, and the story is just bad and makes you feel like you're trapped in a movie that's too long. i guess we'll have to wait and judge it for ourselves.

I already planned on seeing it, being the Sci-Fi nerd that I am.

When it comes to critic reviews, take them with a grain of salt and nothing more. After all, just because one person doesn't like does not mean YOU won't like it, and the same should go with critics.
I'm not saying that critics can't discern a good movie from a bad one, but if you think you'll like it, go see it.

As such, I'll take what they say into account and just see the movie for myself. I can see myself, however, sitting with my eyes closed at points in the movie just listening to the music. <3

Don't listen to these critic reviews at all! It's obvious after viewing that our group/type of people is going to view and enjoy this film. You all will love it. I thought the acting and the story were both fantastic. I love Jeff Bridges character, he was great. That's all I'll say though!

Yeah! I almost started crying when The Grid was played :) Also I love End od Line club scene and Daft Punk cameo. And Derezzed sounds amazing in cinema! Anyway I was last person who make it to the end of credits :)

Haha, me too, on all points. Gah, hardly anyone came to the premiere, maybe 20 people. C'mon, I know it's midnight on a weeknight, but seriously?

Anyway, for someone who isn't really all that impressed anymore with visual effects and carefully choreographed fight scenes, I was really blown away by what I saw. I don't think I even need to say anything about how well the music ties into the visuals, because you know. I kinda agree with the story being a bit, meh, overshadowed by everything else. There were a lot of times when obvious plot was obvious. Too much exposition, not enough character development, typical Disney film. But it wasn't too bad, and all the performances were great.

Did anyone else think that the little silver and gold geometric things that Flynn set on the mantle were a nod to Thomas and Guy-Man? I sure did.

Just saw the movie, great great movie, when they showed daft punk at the club..nearly lost it lol...also they played that song at the club, but that not on the original album, would that be on the special edition cd? idk. Either way this movie was awesome but wouldn't be complete without the music by Daft Punk.

Went. Watched. Jizzed
Seriously though the movie blew me away the imax was amazing the speakers were even more amazing. The music made the movie. Daft Punk's cameo=Freak out in public. Me and my friend literally freaked out as soon as they came on the big screen. Loved the movie.
The fighting scene in the "End of line" club was epic, as they were all fighting Dp was in the booth dj'ing playing derezzed. I though that was pretty sick

I freaked out when Daft Punk made their cameo. I got all my friends to scream on cue. The whole theater stared at us.

Haha, yeah I "WOOO" 'd at Daft too. Similarly, no one else did. I felt sad for the audience for not knowing who they are :<

I liked the movie, a lot. I liked the first Tron as well. The only gripe I have about the new one is...sometimes the camera will zoom in on a characters face, the ambient sound will get quiet, and the character will say a REALLY stupid one-liner...making it seem very childish/extremely poor scriptwriting.
But that's just me. Otherwise, great film, totally going in my movie vault.

I'll let you all finish, but Inception was one of the best movies of all time! [/KANYESTUPIDITY]

seriously, I actually thought that Inception was better than Tron (except for the soundtrack). sorry guys...

I thought it was a great movie! I didn't go into it expecting some super amazing storyline or anything, I kind of figured the best parts were the soundtrack and visuals, but even acknowledging that I think it was a good movie. I would see it again, and I already want to draw some fan art for it, so that's a good sign XD.

The soundtrack really made it. In some places, especially in the club, it just made the movie feel so epic. Daft Punk's cameo had me smiling the whole time. Short, but awesome!

The best part is, for me, my best friend loved the music, and now she wants to borrow the soundtrack cd from me :) I might be able to make her a fan of Daft Punk yet...

Unbelieva-movie. I wasn't expecting much substance either, but it was a very well-made film. Music was brilliant of course.

Aimforthehead
18th Dec 2010, 05:15
Okay, I guess it should be obvious, but seriously... SPOILERS, etc.

Yeah, so, me and a group of friends saw it. I think we all agreed that the storyline was basically meh, although it did look (even in 2D) and sound amazing. Although we joked that the entire movie was black, orange/red, and blue. Ha.

My general problem with the storyline was just that I felt like I really couldn't care less about the characters. A lot of things that seemed like were going to go somewhere were just left alone unfinished. Like when they said Cora could help save the world, or something, they didn't really expand on that (which I would imagine would be a very big deal.) I was also kind of wondering what happened to Tron...

But there's always the possibility of a sequel, so iunno.

Okay, now that I'm done ranting, here's what I loved about the movie:
CAMEO! It was awesome. I was seriously having a fan-girl spasm when Daft Punk got their well deserved screen time. The soundtrack = incredible, gotta love it. Of course.

18th Dec 2010, 06:01
I saw the movie. I was going to watch it because of Daft Punk, yeah. I think they made their Discovery job, they made me discover something incredible.

So. I went, this morning, at the local IMAX theater. The first thing I noticed is the amount of people at the movie. There wasn't a lot of announcements for Tron here, so I thougt I was going to be almost alone. I took the best places, watched the commercials, being more and more anxious...

When the movie started, seriously, it was a blast. I listened to The Grid, which is wonderful in IMAX soundsystem, especially the second part of it.

The movie goes along, I got really captivated. The special effects are BIG and well-done. The sound was incredibly good and loud. I tried to name the songs while they were playing, but I got into the movie and just forgot everything. Ok, I just can't explain it, english isn't my first language, so i'll do a part in French.

So, as I was saying. The part with Daft Punk is important in the movie. Someone talked about a song that is not in the original CD. The song is named Castor (like the weird character and like the mammal that builds dams on rivers here...). I have it, I don't really remember how I got it. Daft Punk are, in the movie, DJs for a nightclub. It explains why the songs End Of Line, Derrezzed and Castor are different for the others, it's the songs played in the club. In that scene, there is a combat between Oranges and Whites, (I don't know what's their names...) , with a Derrezzed sound. W O N D E R F U L.

After that scene, the movie starts to slow down. Less action, more blah blah. Solar Sailer, Sea Of Simulation. I heard people yawning. People moving. The movie was becoming boring when a little action came up. The finale scene. Rectifier, Disc Wars, CLU. Disc Wars sounded good. Really good.

And then, the movie ends, Arrival, Flynn Lives. The sad part of the movie. I didn't understand it. And, suddenly...End Titles comes up, the names appear. Daft Punk with the directors. Yay.

Overall. To resume in one sentence. I'm gonna see it again tomorrow. Who comes ? :)

I really enjoyed the movie story was kinda Predictable but for me it really didn't matter because I felt it was a fitting sequel. I really enjoyed the daft punk cameo because it wasn't overdone, I really hope they don't try and pump out sequels because it would ruin the series.

Did anyone else think that the little silver and gold geometric things that Flynn set on the mantle were a nod to Thomas and Guy-Man? I sure did.
YES YES. THIS EXACTLY. lmao. i whispered loudly to my friend. i was like "LOOK IT'S GOLD AND SILVER JUST LIKE DAFT PUNK!!"

as for my "review" (unabashed SPOILERS, btw, but if you're looking in this thread you've probably either seen it already or don't care i guess. lol) i went into it thinking it would be fluff/whatever. thoroughly enjoyed it and may just go see it again if someone else wants to see it with me. enjoyed visuals and the soundtrack was great. (my ost still hasn't arrived. >/ so this was the first time i heard the music! lol.)

i have to say that i think they could've done sooooo much more with it. they brought up so many super interesting elements and just dropped them. but it's Disney eh, what else is new? example of what i'm talking about: they talk about piracy/filesharing at the beginning (which is SUPER lulz for a Disney film, given their hypocritical copyright track record) and then never mention it again. also in grid, they talk about/imply things like computer god/computer atheism, computer evolution*, and computer genocide. but y'know, of course they're not going to meaningfully address any of this in a "kids'" movie. (because kids don't need to think/know about the real adult world, ofc.)

(*did anyone else notice that Cora's computer DNA was a computer triple helix?)

they addressed the idea of perfection (lol assez Daft topic: «Parce que la perfection n'est pas un mot de robot mais une illusion humaine,» anyone?) and of the idea of human vs machine a bit, but could have been developed soooo much more. they also let the whole idea of the isos completely drop... like you know, awesome that they could be revolutionary irl, but we only see her being all "cool, the sun!" instead of explaining or showing how her being "a real girl!" will change the world.

also, my roommate and i still can't figure out wtf was up with Tron himself. "i'm going to fight you. but actually i fight for the users!!" "oh no i'm falling" "now i'm in the computer ocean. but it's cool i'm turning good again, even though i'm going to drown and die" "oh wait, it didn't matter anyway because Jeff Bridges blew up and destroyed computer everything."

also don't really understand the Japanese influence on Flynn/his costuming, but i'm not complaining, either! lol

but you know even still i really enjoyed it. cheered like a dork every time Daft Punk were on screen, including their name in the credits. lmao.

my roommate and i saw it together, and so ever since we've been putting "computer" in front of computer everything. lmao (you may or may not have noticed that above. lol)

also... Cora = computer The Little Mermaid. (this is probably why i liked her.) that is all.

seen it in imax Thursday night (technically Friday morning) it was awesome...the music shook the theater

about the plot I will say this, they were very true to the original film in that the plot was very minimal (in a good way)...essentially go to a place do a thing movie over...I kinda like the way they infused a lot of symbolism using minimal plot

This movie was amazing. I have been a fan of the 1982 TRON and I have played the games (except the recent Tron: Evolution and Tron: Grid Games) but I do plan to check these games out regardless of reviews because everyone has their own opinions. Now for Tron Legacy I was pumped up for it and the story line worked out really well which is critical when making a sequel especially for something like Tron since it has gathered such a HUGE fan base.

The music in Tron Legacy was AMAZING! I bought the CD yesterday :) and being such an obsessive nerd / dork I am going to be buying anything I can find of Tron and Tron Legacy :)

If you haven't seen this movie or did see it but didn't see it in IMAX 3D I would suggest you go and see it in IMAX 3D. There is no better way to see it :) Also there talking about making a Tron 3. Ill post the link. I also made a thread about Tron 3 SPOILER ALERT.

I know, right! I was seriously not understanding the choices they made. It was almost like the writers of the movie were like, "Well, our so-called plot has absolutely nothing to do with the character the movie is named after! Oh, I know, we'll bring Tron up in a flashback with a mask (because our CGI animators are too busy with other epic special fx), and then kill him off so that he doesn't interfere too much with the plot that he has nothing to do with!" "Sounds good!"

Also, I thought that the guy in the club (with cane) was totally David Bowie, until a close up revealed he didn't have Bowie's crazy pupils. So he was basically the weirdest character in the movie.

But yeah - just to finish (and then I'm seriously leaving this thread since this is like my second mini-review...maybe) I did like it overall.

um..... so. yeah. this movie... um...

it was bad.

im sorry. the music was excellent and the visuals were amazing. ill give it that. yes, it was disney, and yes, i wasn't expecting much, but even what i was expecting.. it didn't live up to that. it was... in a word... disappointing. there were parts in the movie where i literally laughed because it was so bad. at the end, i apologized to my friend for dragging him to it and he told me he felt the exact same way about the movie.

maybe i'm being too harsh. maybe i'm going to be stoned when all of you read this. but this is my opinion. i respect yours. please respect mine. maybe my view will be a little different in the morning.

yes, i'd see this again. would i buy it when it comes out on dvd to play on my blu-ray player? probably not. will it go down on my list as one of my favorite movies? definitely not.

yes, i was excited when daft punk came up too... but i just laughed when they just nodded their heads during the battle scene in the end of line club. that whole scene was just... too much, lmao. overdramatic.

but like i said. the thing that really made me disappointed with this movie was what could have been. they could have done so much with this movie. they had the potential to really make this movie amazing. but it was disney. and i knew they wouldn't do it. and i expected it. they had horrible writers, a mishy mashy plot, no character development, and didn't think about what was really possible with this movie.

like i said. you can all hate me for my opinion. but its my opinion. there's always going to be that 'one guy,' right? well, here ya go! i'm that 'one girl.' but don't let me hinder your enjoyment. go crazy, everyone =]

from my understanding of watching the actor in one of the interviews, his character basically is computer David Bowie. so no harm done there. lol. they were totally going for that anyway! lol

@aria: y so srs? we all knew it was going to be like this from the start, so why not lol and enjoy the show anyway? idk if you read my "review" or not, but even though i found it lacking in a lot of ways, i still enjoyed the hell out of it. probably in a slightly less insane CDPL way. lmao

sure, it's a shame that it didn't get fully developed, but it's Tron ffs. like original, like sequel: lulz.

I went to see this with my friend Jack, who just like me, is a huge fan of the original and a huge Daft Punk fan. Coming from the point of view of a big fan of the original, I am going to say that the first half of the movie was the most fun I have ever had watching a film. For the following reasons!!!:
1) the amount of in jokes and references from the first film is truly amazing. The smallest details have been put in just for the hard core fans. While this is a massive plus for nerds like me, this is a massive negative for people who aren't avid fans. I would say that people who haven't seen the first Tron would not understand half of the significance of what was being said in the movie.
2) I have loved the hell out of Tron and Daft Punk for a few years now, and when I heard that Tron was getting a sequel, I nearly pee'd my pants. So I went online and looked up some information. When I saw that Daft Punk was doing the sound track, I did pee my pants. Just the combination of those 2 things I love coming together was over whelming and to see it in 3D on the big screen and massive sound system made it all the better. I was not disappointed with how it turned out.
3) For those who say that the story is cheesy and that it is just a special effects film, WATCH THE FIRST MOVIE!!! what else did you expect. I love the first movie because of how much fun it is and how cheesy and quirky it is. I got exactly what I expected.

So clearly I had a good time. I saw it at the first screening at my local cinema at 9:45am in Australia non daylight saving time, this equates to nearly 2 days before the release in the US. I was exited and went to see it again the next day.
However I can see why some people don't like it. I think that the movie biggest flaw is that a lot of the enjoyment that can be taken from it is so heavily dependant on being a fan of the first movie, and lets be honest, that isn't you average movie goer.
My advice, if your not a big fan of the original Tron or haven't seen it at all, watch it the night before or right before you go and see the new movie. You will like it sooo much more.

Jack

If you have seen and you don't like the film, still go see it again for 4 reasons.

1) If this movie gets money the film will be better recognized along with Daft Punk, we have better chances of seeing another Daft Punk tour.

2)Sit at the front or back of your local theater and soak in the goodness of the sound systems, Daft Punk sounds amazing in there. Seriously.

3) I really want a sequel down the track. I know that's selfish.

4) You are wrong, this is a good movie. You must have miswatched it, you are forgiven, try again.

Also: I agree with Dogman, See the first one. It is necessary.

beginning: okay. blank mind. i'm just going to see a movie. not expecting much. dont get too excited

after beginning: this movie actually seems like its going to be okay. hah i like the beginning. funny stuff. cool.

middle: okay. forgetting the bad parts. moving on. the rest of the movie's gonna be awesome, right? that last part was um... funny... right? right??

after middle: can i forget that part too? i mean, the ending's still gonna be epic. plz?

ending: well.. um. the credits are still gonna be epic, right?!!??!

Hello dafters,

So I went to watch TRON yesterday and am going to review it on here. I won't spoil anything for the people who haven't seen it. My verdict is : Tron Legacy is ODDLY awesome.(why oddly, i'll tell you now)

The movie itself, lacked of something, something that would make me be on the edge of my seat all the time. To be honest, I think it draws with Avatar. It hasn't surpassed it. The movie has great things:

1) DAFT PUNK MUSIC + IMAGE = EARGASM+EYEGASM. Seriously, I just don't know how to explain it, hearing ''The game has changed'' or the badass ''Rinzler'' with the actutal image enhances the movie to a whole new level.
2) Great performance by characters: Olivia Wilde(HHHOOTT), Michael Sheen, Garett, Beau, Jeff Bridges....everyone was up to the standard
3) Visual Effects: OMFG...its BEYOND what you think.. Trust!!
4) The Plot: IT has a good story to it.

Anyways, thats just a few. This film is abit like sweet and sour taste. I liked it, I truly liked it. I mean Sci-fi + Daft etc..should be a perfect movie, right? Well, it's just not as perfect as it could have been. The story is well explained and compared to other critics that blame a 'poor plot' etc, I think pretty much succeeded by telling a new storyline but you don't get attached to the characters. After lots of thinking, I know what was missing and it is : ACTION!!

I mean, there are bits where the actions could have been extended. I mean comeon, Anis Cheurfa as RINZLER, you want to see more of that. I know, its not supposed to be an action-packed movie, but I just think that more action would definitely have gained them a few more points. The disc wars/light cycle fights happens so quickly that I was like, ''is that it?'', I want to see RINZLER 3D-ing some moves man. This is why its ''oddly'' awesome. I like it but at the same time, its ''meh''

Critics can go throw themselves and its not because of a PLOT! It just lacks of action.

I give this film a solid A-. Definitely, worth watching, definitely buying on Bluray.

B.

oh also the thought occurs to me that i thought that the "3D" in this movie was pretty pointless... the 3D sections were kind of too subtle. i'm really not a fan of the whole 3D[umb] thing, so i really was glad that it wasn't pointless scenes showing off 3D effects simply "because we can." but after the fact, it's kinda like "were those glasses really necessary?" shrug. i still enjoyed regardless, ofc, and would watch again, but probably would not pay extra for 3D.

"This movie is going to suck, it's not going to be in 3D, and I'm only seeing it for Daft Punk." is what I said before I saw the movie.

Wow, lol. I was very pleasantly put in my place; it was actually really good. And I almost cried when Daft Punks part came up, and also when hearing their awesome score throughout the movie; I'm so proud of them. Plus how could I think that anything with Jeff Bridges in it would be bad? "The Dude abides."

I just saw it and it was EPIC! I loved every part of it. Especially when Daft Punk showed and rocked the place.I was the only one shouting in the theater and I suppose people thought I was crazy, but I don't care.It was one of a kind experience. Definitely gonna see it again....and again....and again..

Really enjoyed the movie.

One beef though. Zeus says "Change the mood. Electrify them." (that part is in the Derezzed trailer) And then Daft Punk plays a song (not Derezzed) with this cool bass beat for like 5 seconds while Sam walks up the stairs. This song is not on the score.

I get that it was only 5 seconds, but it's kind of a letdown that the song Daft Punk play to "electrify" a bunch of computer programs in the Grid (basically, the coolest setting for a Daft Punk song ever), doesn't really exist.

Anybody notice this?

The song that played for 5 seconds was probably castor.

I would say that people who haven't seen the first Tron would not understand half of the significance of what was being said in the movie.
Yeah. I remember when Sam was breaking into ENCOM, after he opened the infamously-gigantic red door, he goes "Now that's a big door!", and I laughed. The ENTIRE THEATER didn't make a sound because they didn't get the reference, or at least didn't find it funny, I guess. (You'd think at least one person would get it, GOSH.)

Also, I'd like to point out that the movie still looked dang awesome in good old fashioned teenage budget-friendly $10 2D. Although I don't know how the 3D compared. (Except in price. Apparently an extra dimension costs another $10.)

I saw it late Saturday evening. Since I am a fan of the first movie, I did like it. It's not the best film of 2010, but it's an entertaining film with great eye candy and music.

As for the DP cameo, I grinned big when they first appeared and then (SPOILER:) CACKLED out loud in the theatre when all h#ll broke loose in the club and the movie cuts to them nodding to each other like to say "now it's a party!" and they change the music to match the climax. Did anyone else catch that as comedic gold or was I the only one laughing at that (and not necessarily at Castor's cray-cray self)?

I really think that the creators had the fans in mind, while this is really good in the context of the art form, there is a reason why this so rarely happens, because it doesn't make money and the movie industry is just that, and industry. If it doesn't make money these days it is considered a failure and future directors will be less inclined to take that risk in the future. Once again I want to say I loved the movie, however I don't think it will be very successful commercially.

I saw the movie.. to be honest, the 3D was quite unecessary. I was expecting to see Daft Punk right in my face. Other than that the movie was awesome the visuals effects were stunning. Dp's cameo was like the cherry on top. I had to stop myself from squirming from all the excitement when Derezzed started to play. I'm going to watch it again!!

I don't consider myself a big 3D person; I saw it in 2D, so I can't really give an opinion on the effects in the 3D realm. XD

Still, I want to see it again. Might force my mom (who hasn't seen it) to take me.

Actually this is a pretty good use of 3D. Me and my Dad were talking about it earlier. I've seen it both ways now too.

The point of 3D isn't to have some gimmicky pop-out scene where they stab something out in your face. The point is to be able to show realistic depth in the picture that fools our eyes. Just look at the scene with the army. You can actually see how big of a depth there is and also be able to recognize each and every individual head from the crowd.

Megamind in was good with that kind of stuff too.

Now if only they could find some way to do it without those huge dark glasses that get in the way. lol

I concur, especially about the glasses, lol.

The 3D craze nowadays seems unnecessary with a lot of films but Tron seems to be the right kind of movie for it.

THIS REVIEW HAS SPOILERS (Which I'm sure you can already see by the length...)
Just saw the movie today. There weren't that many people, maybe about 15 people at the most. I wished there were more people there so I wouldn't feel so worried about getting in trouble when I cheered for DP....I was really the only fan there though. Sad face.

I watched it in IMAX and I'd have to say, the booming bass was the one of the best parts, since the floor shook so much. The visuals were breathtaking as well. The 3D was well used. Though it would've been cool to have a disc flying at our face once or twice....none of that pop out stuff really happened. It was used more to support the vastness of the Grid, which I thought was absolutely stunning.

As for the plot, I thought it was interesting and captivating. It kept you on the edge of your seat. I actually haven't seen the original TRON so there were times where I was confused...but it was still fun to watch. It was full of suspense because you never knew when the enemy was going to appear.

The DP cameo was hilarious. I absolutely loved the part where Thomaf nods at Guyf when they decide that playing Derezzed would be suiting for the fighting scene, ahahaha.

The ending was kinda eh though. I liked how they didn't make it all happy-dappy at the end, which is very typical of Disney movies, since Sam's father doesn't come back in the end. But after they finally got out of the Grid, the resolution part of the movie was way too short and it just seemed like it didn't conclude the movie well.
I also wished they used the army a bit. It was cool how they made them, but it would've been slightly morbid but cool to see the damage they would've done to everything.
What I did like though was that Sam and Kora didn't kiss. To be honest, if they did, the movie would've followed that generic Disney movie road again. The focus was more on the relationship between the father and the son, which I liked.

Overall, I liked the movie. I think the soundtrack really made it THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS much better, but I'll talk about the soundtrack in the other thread. :)
Go watch it if you haven't already, and hopefully you'll like it! :D

Managed to go and see it today after not being able to due to snow and shizz. I thought that overall it was a great film. The 3D was impressive and The Grid looked nothing short of epic. Garrett Hedlund was surprisingly good and Olivia Wilde was also a nice sight to see  , Jeff Bridges was as good as ever so I was happy with the cast. Personally I thought that CLU could've looked better but it was a fair enough effort of a younger Bridges. The DP cameo fitted in great and it was good to see End Of The Line, Castor and Derezzed played whilst they were on screen and Thomas' nod to Guyman to play Derezzed during the fight scene in the End Of The Line club just made the movie for me.
Moving onto the soundtrack. I thought it sounded great on that huge Imax system. Songs like the Grid and Rinzler really came to life on the film. Each track fitted the scene beautifully and Adagio for Tron worked wonderfully when Flynn was telling the story of how CLU took over The Grid. I was happy to hear Castor in there because that is such a great track aswell, Derezzed was used superbly in the fighting scene and the music and film came together so much better than I thought it would. The Game Has Changed was probably the highlight for me just because it sounded even more epic through the big surround system in the IMAX.
Overall a great film and go to see it not only because of Daft Punk but for the fact that the visuals are fantastic.
Kosinski has done it justice.

I liked the movie, but I think that Tron could've had more of a role. He WAS Rinzler and he was a BAMF! Also There were too much explaining and less Disc Wars haha. Garrett Hudland also is an... ok actor. Jeff Bridges, amazing. Daft Punk was hilarious in their cameo. Flynn touches the ground (Epicness of 'Fall' starts) and Daft is like 'WTF? what happened to the music' all in all it was ok I give it 3/5

But seriously, thank god my hometown is LA. At the El Capitan, not only can you see the movie in 3d, BUT, you also get a 3D show and a pre-movie lazer show! There's also an awesome setup in the lobby, which includes great lighting to add to the movie's theme, and a replica light cycle (not cardboard either)! Total amounts to 18 dollars, but hey, how can you say no!?

Eh dude actually it was epic imo without that many disc wars is like an "anti- action faggots" who goes for like "OMG EXPLOSIONS AND ACTION IF NOT THE MOVIE WILL SUCK" so i loved that. The fact you had to watch the first movie to understand and enjoy it more is pretty good imo a, as well, which means they stick with most of the ideas without getting too screwed. Visually talking it was an eye candy, everything was impressive. About Daft Punk, when they came in i had a biiig smile in my face but when they kicked in derezzed and the "battle" started oh gosh, i got an eargasm. Id give it a 4/5 , there were some gaps in the movie that let me like "wtf" but overall a pretty solid movie ; ).

I've watched it a few days ago (last saturday). Unfortunatly my local theatre didn't played the movie in 3D, so plain old 2D had to do the trick :p

Little spoilers!!!:
I liked the movie, I wasn't a real fan of the first Tron to be honest. The story sometimes seemed to drag on longer then I wanted to, luckily this was sort of solved in Legacy. I also played the tie-in video game (Tron evolution) and it is nice to see some parts of the game referenced in the movie. The Iso's play a pretty big role in the game and so does Zuse, so I was at first a bit confused when they called him Castor in the movie :p

The music really adds a whole lot to the atmosphere of the movie. Hearing the 'theme song" for the first time when the movie enters the Grid was just amazing. Using Derezzed for the barfight sequence was also just awesome. Even the Daft Punk cameo was a nice touch.

All in all it's an incredible entertaining movie, not the best one you'll ever see, But if you want some good clean fun with a pinch of daft punk thrown into the mix, this is the movie to go to!

Saw the movie yesterday, in 3D Imax... the best movie experience ever.

I really like the way they made The Grid. It's the best and i.m.o the best visualisation of the digital highway ever made (or even tried to made). Really liked the somewhat easy vocals, not to much time spend on hard explenations, and not to much talk in the movie.

I really liked the cameo of Daft Punk, they are really something getting that done.

I really liked the little flashbacks of the first Tron (The apple in Flynn's hideout, the little handheldcomputer in Flynn's arcade, the useage of the same actors/acteurs,)

The lightcicle battle was a blast to! Only there could be more 3D in the movie though.

I live in Germany, so I went to the first screening yesterday.

I tried not to have any expectations but didn't you think the storytelling was really... weak? All that pretentious hints to historic events or religion?

For me the movie just worked because of the soundtrack (it's way beyond excellent, fantastic, awesome,...) and the amazing visuals and design. What else disturbed me was the weak acting but that was a result of the sh*tty plot I guess. The only character that really worked for me was GEM.

But all in all I'm going to see it again, just for the daft punk cameo club scene,... I would watch it on repeat the whole day.

People complaining about the storytelling don´t understand the fact that Tron Legacy is actually a sequel to the first Tron + Game.

Ofcours they should not waste time with explaining everything, you should have watched the first Tron for that ! Don't waste another movie with storybased blablabla if the story itself is already there.

Edit: would be something if Star Wars, LOTR or The Matrix would waste time in the sequels explaining what happened/who everyone is again (Except the opening scene)

yeah, but its one thing if the story wasn't explained well, and another if the writing is just plain terrible.

face it, it was a very poorly written movie.

in my opinion the storytelling was ruined BECAUSE of the explainings they were trying to give.

Honestly, it's not terrible scenario ... The lack of depth, rather than access the film on the concept of the game (battle and motorcycle race track with fluorescent battle record) the film is based on a very low scenario! If I were to put a note would have no more 10/20!
Fortunately the music of Daft Punk saves everything, it sticks perfectly to the different scenes of the film and having seen the movie I must say that I appreciate even more the soundtrack for Daft Punk.
I loved the bar scene is seen Daft Punk but I also really liked the game scene in the arena with the bikes when "The Game Has Changed" takes its full extent.
The opening scene is as it plunges us entry into the atmosphere and we suggest that the film will be huge! But then if we dwell on the story the film is not worth the shot and the end is more special I say no more ...
They want to make a Tron 3!! Without the music of Daft Punk that will be hard to bring people to the movies!

finally got around to seeing the movie.i didnt expect to like it, given disneys track-record with live-action films.some of the casting left a bit to be desired (hedlund),the dialogue was either faux-matrix or faux-big lebowski (mostly from jeff bridges, admittedly) and the storyline was your basic evil ruler is evil, last remaining whatever is good.having said all that,it was enjoyable despite all these things.the soundtrack was used brilliantly, michael sheen was good/creepy as castor, bridges is always likeable even when his face has that creepy CGI sheen for CLU,the special effects were amazing and the cameos worked well -not just daft punk, cillian murphy (scarecrow from batman begins and TDK,fisher from inception)'s appearance really caught me by surprise.always nice to see a fellow irishman turn up unexpectedly (and uncredited :P).

the middle part at the dude's...i mean flynn's house in the middle of nowhere dragged a bit,but overall it was fun.im not sure if the proposed sequel will be much to look forward to,but you never know.
