Posted in speculation because there is obviously no confirmation of this.
During my daily trolling of Tumblr, I came across this (http://www.lesinrocks.com/musique/musique-article/t/63005/date/2011-04-11/article/panda-bear-animal-collective-sur-le-prochain-daft-punk/).
"...the duo is already in Paris for a fourth studio album (Tron and live apart), on which musicians in the flesh bone and replace the machines..."
Although crap Google translate is crap, I was hoping someone here could give a more er...precise description? Thoughts on this?

Collaboration with Kraftwerk would be awesome (although there is only one original member left now)
Jean Michel Jarre would also be great.
Faithless would have been awesome, but they have split up now (although Sister Bliss on her own is still going.)
Or Röyksopp.

Eh...yeah I guess that would be correct, huh? This would be kind of fast paced for them too, with them finishing up their last project so recently. (Actually, in hindsight, they probably had that done a year before hand what with all the post production editing they had to do...I digress). I'm not against a break in the mold though! c:

im not taking it as read that this is true.journalists get carried away quite often.
if it is,its an interesting development.electronic music has moved on since HAA (which was an anomaly when it was released anyway) and a new direction might be a good idea.
as for collabs,i dont think daft punk should collaborate with other electronic bands (chems, royksopp, kraftwerk have been suggested) as that often tends to dilute the sounds of both acts to make a rather tepid new style.flying lotus is an interesting suggestion though,as his style is so wildly different from daft punks.

About collaborations... I think they'll make the music themselves, but have other musicians singing and playing, like they had Todd Edwards and Romanthony on Discovery. I doubt that they'll collaborate a lot on the actual song writing and production. But who knows.

It's not only a rumor, it's TRUE that they were working on stuff during that time. Remember "hypnotize u"? The daft punk song that Pharell sang over?

The LA times definitely quote Thomas as saying that they had been working on their own music concurrently with the Tron soundtrack so this honestly makes a lot of sense to me - Trying really, really hard to not get my hopes up but I can't really help it.
As for Panda Bear and stuff - I think Ridley's probably right, it seems less like a "collaboration" thing and more like a "feature" thing, a la Romanthony and what not.
The article also says something about meeting with some of the creative minds behind MJ's Thriller video which seems pretty ridiculously exciting to me. Maybe I'm reading too far into it but that kind of has a "live show" or at least a "music video" ring to it, don't you think?

My thoughts exactly. We can't know this for sure, but this is what I imagine is going on, it would seem odd for Daft Punk to just randomly decide to make a full collaboration album with other artists.

I'd love to see what Daft Punk goes for next. Seems like they always move forward in their work, and rarely ever go back on stuff. Homework was a start, then Discovery was completely different from Homework, then HAA was completely different from Discovery. Now it's a really strong electronic sound since ALIVE 2007 and especially since Tron Legacy. It'll be exciting to see what they'll create with the new people they're working with :)
All that aside, I gotta say that I'll honestly be disappointed if there's no announcement of a Tour this year because of them heading back into the Studio. Even an announcement of a tour announcement would suffice for me =/

Human after all was a very important step in house music history, it gave way and made the whole electro house scene a little more 'house-mainstream' and accessible for smaller artists at the time.
On another note...

Ah, I see. Never noticed that. ^^ But I still think they will do most of the writing and producing themselves, but collaborate with various artists on some of the songs. For example with Panda Bear, where I imagine he would sing on one or two (or three?) songs, and co-write them. And as for the Thriller-people, I guess it's mostly musicians that will only be playing instruments. But if they collaborate with Quincy Jones... that might be awesome.
Anyway, I think it's interesting that they seem to be using more live instruments for this album. If they combine the world of electronic music with more conventional instruments (like with Tron) they have more ways to experiment with their sound. Not to mention what they could do on a tour, with them in their pyramid backed up by great live musicans and singers.
I know that whatever they do, it will be amazing, so I'll just wait now and let the robots do their thing.

This is far from a confirmation or anything, but Guy has that shirt he really loves to wear that reads 'Quincy Jones Thriller'...so...I mean, that's at least something, right? Damon Albarn ft. Daft Punk? Would be nice but i think this will never happen... Also i dont expect that there will be a 4th studio Album in forseeble future... Im looking forward to a Tour in the next 2 or 3 years, this seems to be the most realistic point atm...

Well, both ways... first of all, every daft punk stdio production resulted in a live performance. So it seems to be realistic that dp will support the tron soundtrack with a tour, too. The second poit is that Daft Punk allready confirmed that there will be a tour in 2010/2011 on Daftalive.com... As some of us might know, they allready posted this statement in year 2009, but theres still hope ;)

Never say never, especially with Damon....seriously, theres rumors of a Paul McCartney and Gorillaz Collab.
Also, that Tron tour is never gonna happen, ever.

I don't know how relevant this can be for getting more information about Daft Punk's 4th studio album:
In an interview with Louis LaRoche he was asked, what he's mad about concerning coming music.
He said that he's mad about Dr. Dre's Detox-Album....AND "Daft Punk‘s secret album track with DJ Falcon"
It's an interview from 2010 or even 2009 I think but as far as I know there wasn't any track with Daft Punk and DJ Falcon during the past few years...
Here's the link: http://www.supersoundrecords.com/gdd%E2%84%A2-exclusive-interview-w-louis-la-roche/
Another information you get is that N.E.R.D. (Pharrell Williams and his crew) is POSSIBLY on their next album because in an interview Pharrell talked about their "meeting" with Daft Punk in which they listened to NERD's album stuff for thier album "nothing" whereas NERD listened stuff of them, including the tron Soundtrack which was not released at that date. DP produced "Hypnotize U" for them and so it can be that NERD produced something for DP's album... ;)
Here's a link of a part of that interview:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlLGdA_jx0M
...besides that there's a confirmation that "Panda Bear" will appear on their album, and probably Jay-Z
I hope this could help a little bit :)

I think we established at the time that it was merely La Roche trying to be funny and create some hype just because he could. Though to his credit, he did spill the beans about Daft Punk working on a movie many a years ago on this forum, so who knows?

We wanted to work with Romanthony and Todd Edwards on our first album. They didn't know who we were at the time, so it was very difficult to convince them. When we met Romanthony in Miami, he told us he was very into what we were doing, which made us very happy. They are the house producers who were the biggest influence on us. Working with them was a way for us to close the circle. It was very important for us to do that, because they are part of what we do. Now that we've worked with them, we are free to explore other areas. It will be interesting to see what we'll do next. Now we can work with other people.
Well that certainly didn't gel... I wonder at what point between 2001 and 2005 they sat down and said "you know what? Why don't we do a really mechanical album and not let anybody lay a finger on it but ourselves! Hey, maybe one of us could use a talkbox! So, what do you feel like getting for dinner? Is Chinese good?" etc. etc.

Never noticed that. My guess is that they didn't know/couldn't get people who would fit on the album. Either that, or they wanted to convey an artistic statement using HAA. Maybe people they knew were insulting the helmets?

I don't think this is real. They provide no source or links to anything official. I don't know the title or artist of that song but I know I heard it at least a few months ago in a mixtape.

@440 he starts talking about current projects and says "I'm working with a group called daft punk"
So this doesn't really present any new information but can definitely disbar any rumors on Paul talking about Tron in the original interview. And hopefully this means they have been working on the new album for a year now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what has been heard so far is news about collabs; with musicians that worked with Michael Jackson on Thriller (after Tron they must've developed a taste for working with live musicians), Panda Bear (singer), Chilly Gonzales (piano-guy), Jay-Z (at least that was rumored) and Paul Williams (who says that he's "writing an album" with them).
And what you posted:
"What’s more in that same interview the duo expressed their desire to explore new territory on their next release, making collaborations at least in the realm of possibility.
“We like the idea of trying to experiment and do different things we haven’t done in the past,” Bangalter said. “I imagine [selling out] would be finding a successful formula and sticking with it and always doing the same thing. That is not what is exciting to us.”"

So, basically:
1. Trying new things!
2. Collabs!
My guess would be an album release first half of next year, followed by an epic world tour where they play using a mix of their old style (synths, ableton, etc) together with live musicians.

And i would like to officially restate my statement which a made a couple of months ago. My prediction, announcement for the album by march next year, album release late next year, no tour.

Well it's a little early to be making predictions about release dates yet! Still though, the info about collaborators is all legit (save for Jay-Z perhaps). It still excites me every time I think about what they could possibly be doing with both Paul Williams and Panda Bear.

I am pretty sure they said at one point that they didn't have too much to do with the creation of 'Stonger'. The samples were just used, however the Grammy show was more of a collab from both parties.

(INTERVIEW : http://www.livincool.com/music/sebastian-ed-banger-interview-for-livincool-com#more-64080 (Question #6))
6)We all know you’ve remixed Daft Punk: how was it working with them?
We are excellent friends, so I remixed some of their music. We are all waiting for their next album. I think that the soundtrack they proposed for Tron Legacy last year was something different from an album. It was an experiment, a new exercise.

Last SebastiAn interview in Rome:
6)We all know you’ve remixed Daft Punk: how was it working with them?
We are excellent friends, so I remixed some of their music. We are all waiting for their next album. I think that the soundtrack they proposed for Tron Legacy last year was something different from an album. It was an experiment, a new exercise. :happy2:
COMPLETE INTERVIEW:
At his live set in Rome at The Paris Rockin party, we’ve had the pleasure of meeting dj and French producer SebastiAn, member of Ed Banger record label. His Primary Tour is a smart dj-set, with great music and incredible visuals. Could SebastiAn be the right candidate to replace Sarkozy? I would call him “Le Nouveau Robespierre”.
1)How’s life with Ed Banger? How’s the relationship with your label?
My work with the Ed Banger’s crew is quite simple, natural and spontaneous. Indeed, we all live in the same area in Paris. To me it’s not only a job but, first and foremost, it is a great friendship too. We are a family of artists, we often have dinner together and we talk about ideas and future projects. The boss of the label is Busy P, who behaves like a father to the crew. He has a lot of experience in the world of entertainment.
2)Which are the artists who have influenced your music the most?
When I was young I was very impressed by Dj Premiere. How he used to play music, how he used to produce it, was breathtaking. Generally I listen to a lot of different music. Very alternative. Another one off the top of my head is Billie Holiday.
3)What are your future projects?
I want to make another album soon, keep on remixing a lot of other artists’ tracks and continue with my tour, The Primary Tour.
4)Which singer would you like to produce in the near future?
I would like to work with John Legend, you know…when you meet someone interesting, you tell yourself: “Right, I want to produce him”. The idea comes in a second, like a bolt out of the blue.
5)Which is the artist that you dream of producing one day?
Definitively Prince.
6)We all know you’ve remixed Daft Punk: how was it working with them?
We are excellent friends, so I remixed some of their music. We are all waiting for their next album. I think that the soundtrack they proposed for Tron Legacy last year was something different from an album. It was an experiment, a new exercise.
7)How was your experience with Uffie?
We are old friends. I met Uffie when I started working at Ed Banger. She was a young girl from Miami and we became friends before starting to collaborate. The same story goes for Mr Oizo and Dj Feadz.
8)How do you produce your music?
I make use only of the computer, G5 and Cubase. At the moment, thanks to the computer, I don’t need anything else.
9)When will you release your next album?
Really soon. I’ve already started producing it. Next month I will present my new single Love in Motion together with a video.

So, I sense a kind of pattern...this is all just theoretical, so bear with me...Homework was a pretty even combination of Guy's and Thomas' tastes, with Thomas' "harder" style and Guy's seemingly more soulful, Chicago House-influenced style. Discovery seems like it leaned a lot more towards Guy's style, with it being a lot warmer and smoother and sample-based. Human After All seemed closer to Thomas' style, being harder and more minimalistic. Now we hear rumors about this next album involving R&B musicians and the like - perhaps this will fall into the pattern and lean more towards Guy's style? I mean, don't get me wrong, each album was obviously a pretty even collaboration between the two, but by looking at each of their non-Daft Punk works you can pretty easily see what songs were closer to whose personal style. Another way of looking at it would be that Homework is a pretty even combination of Human and Robot, Discovery (and Interstella 5555) is more Human, Human After All (despite the title) and Electroma are more Robot, and thus it makes sense that next album may be either more Human or a more even combination of Human and Robot.
To me, I think it'd be very interesting to see a sort of Homework for the 21st century. I think this is all the more possible since a lot Daft Punk fans obviously want the more Disco-y vibe that Discovery and some Homework songs had, and that smoother Electro House (like a lot of Guetta's stuff) is currently really popular...It seems to match since Homework had the really hard edge with the soulful vibe...I don't know :D

I can completely follow your thesis, however it falls kind of flat as what you've described isn't a pattern, really.
Both --> Guy --> Thomas, is how you look at it, and, quite frankly, that's not a pattern since there are no repeats in any of this. Furthermore, the assumption of this 'pattern' repeating after three steps is quite large and lacking any real foundation - Though, I'm fully aware that this is merely speculation from your part -, and also the assumption that there actually is a pattern is one equally as big as the previous. Daft Punk have previously proven to have little to no interest in patterns (The OUTRAGEOUS lack of anything, March 09, 4 years after Human After All, 8 years after Discovery, 12 years after Homework)

Yeah, the pattern certainly isn't provable - but that doesn't mean that one can't predict the pattern. I agree though that they've shown little interest in patterns in past, but what I described may be more of an unconscious thing. Still though, it's just a theory - a guess. It's certainly not a thesis :)

Ok so this is why i think DP is taking so long releasing a new album and what i think DP are doing (strategy-wise) for their next album.
Everybody has a favorite song on an album (that go-to song) so what i think what they're doing is making an album amount of songs (probably about 14 more or less) and choosing the very best song out of those, and shelve the rest, then they repeat the process over and over again until they have a perfect album of just perfect amazing tracks in order to make a breathtaking new album

If they feel ready to release Album Nr. 4 they'll take some of their samples, change them abit, do some arrangement, make 2 or 3 new ones, put in their mistourius "new Style" and there we go.
