So as far as i can tell, there is no relation to the stardust song apart from the title and one line in the song (the music sounds better with you). HOWEVER, one of the band members said that the song was originally made by daft punk in 98, but never used it, so Big Time Rush got their hands on it, and made it their own.

What do you think?

It seems HIGHLY unlikely that Daft Punk made a track called 'Music Sounds Better With You' the SAME year, which Thomas Bangalter and the rest of Stardust released their track of the same name. Furthermore, in that time period Daft Punk didn't incorporate complete lyrics into their music as this does.

Lastly, why the hell would Daft Punk be like, "lol, we'll troll the crap out of people by giving this stupid kids act permission to do a cover of an unreleased song of ours"?

It's more than possible that it's Big Time Rush being dumb...

Who said that daft punk had called the song 'music sounds better with you'? and who said their version even had any lyrics?

They probably took the song and changed it a bit, added/replaced the vocals, and made it really ****ty.

umm...whats Big Time Rush?

big time rush is a boy band put together by the disney channel to make a kids show that revolves around the life of a normal 'pop idol band' and their fame while they break out into song and dance throughout the course of their 'normal' lives. its beyond puke-inducing.

I think the guy they interviewed regarding the sample wasn't at all specific in giving the facts.

I feel like Daft Punk would not bother in producing a song of the same name as Stardust's unless it was a remix of sorts.

So if the guy is referring to "Music Sounds Better With You" by Stardust, and not "Music Sounds Better" by Daft Punk then that would make somewhat more sense, though I didn't hear any sample from the Stardust track in BTR's song that helps back-up that they sampled it.

And if they did in-fact sample it, I really hope they give production credit of some sort to the original producers, and not BTR's.

So I'm supposed to believe, that by complete coincidence, Big Time Rush got their hands on an old Daft Punk song from '98 and named it Music Sounds Better With You - A name which Stardust of Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk used on a song the same year - ?

No...

I'm almost willing to bet, that the songwriters (Who's not the band) told them they based it off of an old song from '98 by Daft Punk (Because they don't have their facts straight either) and that the message got lost in translation somewhere along the lines

Uh.. not that I would know

Don't worry, I was about to say the same thing.

Now, I don't usually hate on "pop" music. Justin Bieber comments on Youtube piss me off and I'm tired of people comparing a song to Lady Gaga or Ke$ha when they don't like it or it's too "mainstream". But I hate stuff like this. It's just so blatantly corporate: they get a bunch of good-looking carbon copies together to form a "band", promote the hell out of them on all their other channels of media (including the shows of other groups they've done similar things with), and then once they've seeped into the public consciousness enough, they give them a TV show so the band and their TV personas can prop themselves up against each other like sheaves of corn. They milk it for a couple of years and then once overexposure sets in they drop the band in celebrity limbo and give one of the side characters on the show their own show/band to perpetuate the cycle. It's not music, it's a machine.
This is what Thomas and Guy have always been so wary of and a big part of the motivation behind their aggressively "anticelebrity" public personas. It's also what they wrote Interstella about; that whole movie is basically an extended metaphor about a band that falls into this system, experiences it, and eventually manages to overcome it. Ironic, then, that their recent involvement in the Tron soundtrack has brought them back into the public consciousness enough for the recognition of their name to be used as a tool within it.

http://americaspeaksink.com/2011/10/big-time-rush-release-new-single-music-sounds-better-with-you/

Here's the quote:

‘Music Sounds Better With You’ was released by Kendall Schmidt during a call to ‘On Air With Ryan Seacrest.’ The track samples a vintage Daft Punk song from 1998 called ‘Music Sounds Better.’ Kendall told Seacrest that they took ‘Music Sounds Better,’ and “made it their own.”

I think that the most obvious explanation is that they meant the Stardust track and NOT some unreleased Daft Punk song. I also DO hear the MSBWY hook in the chorus of the Big Time Rush song, but maybe I'm crazy

I was channel surfing earlier today and I stumbled upon a Big Time Rush documentary. They were announcing a new music video for one of their new songs, called "Music Sounds Better With U." Now, I was kind of annoyed that the song was the same exact title and they made "you" "U". That was just cheezy in my opinion. So, I went on YouTube and listened to the song. And the chorus came on...

I like it. But I prefer the stardust version. I, myself, can't hear any similarity between the two apart from the one line. However in a ustream they say that they worked on it with Ryan Tedder, and it is an "intripilation" (I think thats what he says.) But I find the two songs very different to each other, the stardust version being french electro house, and the btr version is in the pop genre.

You Guys do realize that french house musicians sample ALOT more than these guys ever will.

I agree, though there is one difference in my mind. For the most part, even when not microsampling, the French House guys sample pretty insignificant parts of a song. Their "magic" comes from the fact that they hear that little bit that nobody else noticed in the song, and then they turn it into a hit. In the case of Big Time Rush, they took a hook, a chorus, that was already a huge hit, and then copied it. MSBWY's chorus was already huge, they already knew it would work. In my opinion, that's what makes it cheap.

What's even sadder is the state of the metal scene...I used to listen to metal quite a bit, but the state of that scene in general...ugh...(though, obviously, there are some good metal bands still).

As far as permission, I doubt it. I mean, they did say that they took the chorus from a "Daft Punk song", so (despite getting the artist wrong) they are pretty public about lifting it...but it's really one of those things were even if they didn't I doubt Bangalter, Braxe, and Diamond would even bother pursuing them legally. I mean, they all may have some money, but I doubt they could win in what would essentially turn into "who can pay their lawyers longer while the case keeps getting pushed farther into the future", and the big record people backing Big Time Rush would surely outlast Stardust.

Taking from YouTube probably is technically illegal - especially since in 99% of the cases uploading songs that you don't own the rights to to YouTube is illegal.

As far as legal options, your best option to get it digitally would be to buy it from a mix CD. There are quite a few legal House mix CDs that have the track on it, though there is one big downside of course - it will probably have a fade in at the start and a fade out at the end. For example, this has the 12" Club Mix version of MSBWY on it: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0029XXTNQ/ref=dm_sp_alb as does this: http://www.rhapsody.com/artist/various-artists/album/total-music-dance-classics-vol-1/track/music-sounds-better-with-you-12-club-mix

You can also try to find a copy of the Music Sounds Better With You CD release, and then just take it from there when you get it: http://www.discogs.com/Stardust-Music-Sounds-Better-With-You/release/125887 & http://www.ebay.com/sch/CDs-/307/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=stardust+music+sounds+better+with+you+CD

i didn't dig the big time rush track at all.
that being said, i feel i'm well aware of the fact that i'm going to encounter some pretty horrible things in my life.
so if i were to cry and throw fits of rage over the fact that yet another musical act is equipped with terribly outdated lyrics, and prepubescent girls in their line of fire; i should probably just end my life now, because things are only due to get worse for the music industry.

:D

(In my opinion)
It's just stupid that Nickilodiean or whatever just copied disney's methoid of making rusty teen pop songs for a chance at money. I just hope that cartoon network doesn't fall into desprite needs to do this too.

I've haven't watched it in a few years, but as far as I'm concerned Cartoon Network died when they aired Destroy Build Destroy...

(well, with the exception of Adult Swim, of course)
