I think this is an absolutely amazing song personally! I don;t feel it gets credited enough... so this is a thread completey dedicated to the 'SEGA MEGADRIVE' stylings of Ouverture!!

woah!!! This is gonna sound stupid in a minute when I read over it but...
Just been freaked out... I actually listened to the lyrics of this song for the first time properly! And realised that the woman is spelling out Ouverture in French, and then says it!!
Just another example of the Punk's amazing ability to shape vocal samples!!! I had no idea what it said up until just now!!!!

I totally agree. Ouverture is an awesome song. Ouverture, along with the DP Remix of Aerodynamic, and Aerodynamite, are the highlights of the Daft Club album, IMO.
Sometimes I like to hear some calm songs to relax or focus, so I get some nice quiet songs on the playlist; some of them are from DP, like Ouverture, Make Love, Emotion, Something About Us, Veridis Quo, Nightvision
Ouverture is really great, that disorted sound at the end is creepy... :)

cuz they start off with the most annoying sound of all time...the modem.

Maybe the modem was ment to symbolize that the song was downloaded from the internet? It was the first song in the Daft Club service after all. Anyway whatever sounds it has it'll always remind me of Outrun.
Well, for me "Ouverture" is a sign of their evolution from "Discovery" to "HAA", don't you think? It contains some elements characteristic for both of those albums.

i don't know about that... "Ouverture" was around right after Discovery was released, so i don't think there's much of a time span to evolve through.

It's a homage to Sega Genesis music... Specifically Outrun and Michael Jackson's Moonwalker LOL! 'nuff said.

Has anybody noticed that the sound at the ending of Ouverture is the THX sound? It is seen in some movies. Here is an example from the movie STar Wars:

the THX sound fits well with "ouverture" since that's the sound you usually hear before a movie starts. But this time it's opening for a CD.
Not very good CD, but... :)

the lyrics? it's just a female spelling out "OUVERTURE" and then saying the word. it might sound a little different since she is using the French names for each letter, but that's what it is.

Did't EJ mention that earlier in the thread somewhere?

Just as Hani said, for me Ouverture is a transition between Discovery and HAA. It has elements of both albums, and it sounds great.

this is what i think:
ouverture is chill and calm just as it is scary and melancholy. its hard to describe really. it reminds me of that "discovery era" photo i saw of daft punk flying around the city in either a helicopter or a small airplane. the view of the city is beautiful, and the scene in the cockpit is calm with some weird feelings.
iuno, the song makes me think of that particular photo and i think its a great song.
it also reminds me of how the next record should sound. at least one part of it anyway. just a really chill song thats at the same time scaryand trippy.
In the end - we all like Ouverture :)

Absolutely! I adore the song, im one of those weirdos that has my own Daft Punk greatest hits disc (i dunno why but i thought Musique could have been better,so i burned all my favourites onto a blank disc) and thats the intro-i think its a really clever idea to stick the modem sound on at the beginning considering the daft club cds origin.I would love to see them try something like this for the next album,it would be another marvellous innovation!
