It's 40-50 € on release day, depends on your record store, it's exclusively made for Record Store Day 2012, available in stores at 21 april, probably only 120 copies produced, made out of black fabric and white hot foil.
Check the Record Store Day website of your country and get in contact with a store nearby, otherwise you might not get a chance to get a copy this "cheap", prices will be high afterwards!

**** that. SebastiAn needs to bust out some **** on the level of his '05-'08 golden age or go in a new direction entirely. Total was one of my favorite albums of last year, but it really exhausted all the potential of the very particular formula he was using to structure those songs. "Holloback" so far sounds like a good midpoint between his recent stuff and his older stuff, but it still just doesn't push it far enough (unless there's a real nice surprise waiting for us in that last unreleased minute of it).

so i figured -- and don't get me wrong, i love it. but what makes SebastiAn my favorite producer ever is moments like the amazing piano outros to "Cheap and Cheerful" and "Human After All," or the super funky pre-chorus of "Bossy," the insane electro-guitar breakdown in "Head/Off" after all that off-beat noise, the insane development of "Ross Ross Ross" and "Paris Four Hundred" and "HAL"...what i really love about SebastiAn are the surprises and the complexity, and i just don't think his music has had that extra oomph to it in a long while. the "Holloback" clip in that phone advert got me excited, and even though it's ultimately still cool, what got me excited was that it sounded to me like old school Seb -- but the full song just lacks that cherry-on-top twist that all his best jams have. stuff like the Notre Jour Viendra soundtrack (BRILLIANT) and the piano in "Paris Four Hundred" and "Human After All" show he has such a highly developed musical sense, i just wish he'd use it more nowadays rather than opting for economy and simplicity -- i think it'd help him get more of a mainstream audience again too.

thank you. seriously, thank you for knowing what's up! it's all about the subtlety and juxtaposition. i try to explain the 'paris four hundred' remix to everyone. ever notice what he cut up? the little bit at the end, opensodacanpopslurp* !! favorite edm producer as well.

you want it all. i hear ya! but think about. how busy is he? he didn't release any original work aside from soundtracks since 2008. he's done a lot of work for other people. remix work? the amount of remixes he's done have gone down since then too. the man hasn't even properly debuted a full-length album yet imo; 5/15 tracks (excluding the intro/interludes/outro) have already been heard prior to the release of total. and how long do you think those 10 tracks left had already been finished long before total? he's stated in interviews that the album was a kind of compilation of all the styles he's done. i can't remember the exact number but he said he had around 60 tracks to choose from or something! guys, the hardcore sebastian fans, we are waiting for the second album. imagine how big it could be! album #2 is an open canvas for sebastian to sound however he wants; it's gonna be huge, mind-blowing, and one heck of a surprise.

he can make that sound and those brilliant moments at will. he's built a sound we can't get enough of and rounding out the primary tour, an image to go with it. something special is in waiting. patience will pay off! the hugeness will come once again ;]

a while. he played a pretty much finished "Jack Wire" beat back in 2008 in a live collaboration with his brother, i know that much...and a 17-second clip of "Fried" existed back then, too.

what beats me is why he didn't release Total back in '08, then. he may not have had stuff like "Embody" or "Love in Motion" in his repertoire back then (but then again, maybe he did -- just speculating here), but he did already have a lot of Total's best material, plus stuff like "Untitled" that never went on anything official and is better than much of Total anyway. if he had released this album or something like it back in '08, he would've been huge since this was exactly what kind of stuff was popular during that resurgence of "French touch." dropping it in the middle of 2011, the dance world had already moved on and the only people left to really appreciate it were the die-hards...i just say this as one of those die-hards. i feel like he'd be a much more popular artist now (and would have then been able to release something completely fresh, that 2nd album sound you're talking about, in 2011 or 2012) had he jumped on it while he could have. same with Uffie, but she never had much going for her to begin with, so no real tragedy there...

this must be an exaggeration, though. if he had all that material, then he DEFINITELY could have released the album long, long ago. i understand, on some level, if he wanted to expand his sound to differentiate himself from the pack, but the poppier and funkier tunes -- while some of my favorites on Total -- definitely weren't worth the cost to his career/longevity if that's what we were waiting for.

i see no reason to presume this (unless you're an insider) since i haven't heard anything on that A+ impossible level of brilliance since "Cheap and Cheerful" in '08, pretty much ("Kindercut" goes back to that era, too, when it leaked as a Sneaky Soundsystem Remix at a much higher BPM). unless we count Notre Jour Viendra, which we should, but that's a very different style...

i'm excited for whatever comes next, though. for sure.

and like i said, don't quote 'Holloback' as a full song, it's a b-side

'Total', was released delayed, and like he said, he always takes his time! 'Ross Ross Ross' was released in 2006, the track itself was made years ago, and it was one of the tracks he played pedro when he got signed by Ed Banger!

Wouldn't it be boring if he would release 4 EPs a year and a remix every month like other artists?
The normal electronic musician in EDM uses the same patterns and synths in every remix, sebastian likes to experiment, but to still keep that touch that makes his music unique and unrivaled! and he only chooses songs to remix, when they are his taste and show potential...

There's plenty of stuff waiting to be released someday, there will be a new album, new remixes and co-productions, like he did for woodkids new album! he also works together with kavinsky, who is going to release his new album soon!

so why complain? or be frustrated? there's no reason, except you want him to be like a mainstream EDM producer...i bet you won't

oh i mostly agree w/ your speculations. i could imagine it for sure! that's exactly why i tried to outline possible circumstances surrounding the time and "delay." and that despite our criticism on latency, there has always been some sort of progression or eras of his music, which also leads me to that mad hope i have for album #2. especially because he's implied a sooner than expected release for it!

anyway, i hope you get my logic here. total was released in '11 despite him having many tracks some time before. just using the facts surrounding what he was doing then, what's been released, and what he's said in interviews to try to put pieces together. the brilliance is hiding, we're still waiting for post-2008 sebastian and i think it's a perfectly good time for something fresh (especially sebastian fresh :D).

i'm glad he doesn't pitch releases on a regulated basis. i wouldn't enjoy his work, if he just constantly pumped out new release after new release. i dig the whole idea of holding off releases for a while, and kickin' down the door with some badassary.
it also gives me a chance to actually enjoy other bands/producers/etc with a keen interest; which i probably wouldn't be able to do, if sebastian were obnoxious with his releases.

It's good to see him going back to the structures from his 2008 stuff since that was pretty great, and those remixes are pretty bloody great, even if I am going to miss some things from Total, like the ear piercing synths and such

Justice changed up their style on AVD for a ton reasons. I remember in an interview they said they didn't really know what audience they were reaching out to, and whether there fans had changed since their A Cross the Universe touring days.

I feel like this isn't the case with Sebastian, so i wouldn't expect too big of a change in his style. And even if he does decide to change his sound a bit more, I say bring it on.

releasing 'c.t.f.o.' as the second single did wrong >< i don't want to get into the complete lack of promotion for total and the primary tour by edbanger/sebastian... ima just c.t.f.o. i have faith in the label, but i'm sure we've all questioned the moves of the label/artists this past year.

and yeah CTFO as the second single was a huge mistake, especially because it was already a de facto single b/c pitchfork and all of the big music sites wrote about it as soon as the album came out because they're all over MIA's d*ck. the "love in motion" video was even worse though.

Awwww man now come on, I see this opinion a lot and I didn't get why people got so up in arms about them remixes (Except the Toddla T one... erm that's understandable lol). I mean it's not like he didn't do dupstep-y songs before, like 'Fried' for example, and the Beastie Boys one still stuck quite heavily to the old SebastiAn formula in my opinion, more so then any other remixes he was doing at the time. I mean it's frustrating I never see people having a go at like... Krazy Baldhead for 'Amplifried' or at Mr. Oizo for 'Chiffon' which I personally think are both quite dupstep-y too. I see it like this; who would you rather be dabbling in dubstep anyway? People that produce dupstep to make a bit of quick money of a one hit wonder on the radio? Oh no no I could totally understand being worried for dupstep taking over across the board certainly, kind of like making music just for mass appeal rather then... making music :D I just take issue with the majority, they just seem to hate on them remixes just because it's related to the 'D' word... which is bloody stupid! haha

I was never worried about a dubstep takeover personally, I mean in my eyes ESPECIALLY with Sebby baby it just sounded like he just got into that kind of music and got a bit carried away with it, like a lot of people do when they're first introduced to a musician or genre they really start to get into. Hell I remember when I listened to my first Chiptune band during college, It was all I could listen too for a while haha,

Me too I didn't think it was old Skrillex when I first heard it! I was like 'Naaaaaaaaaah this is far to French for him'. I wish SebastiAn did more sets like that, like of just stuff he likes. I heard the one he did on Ed Banger's soundcloud, again of just music he fancied at the time, some of the stuff was great, shocked to hear Lightning Bolt make an appearance!

yes! :] haha me too. it's a great song for competitive sports that aren't really sports that involve turns... like (american) beer pong :D then once you win, cue justice's 'parade' lol it also makes any menial task much more epic xP

Yes is my favourite song off Total, it is just an instant classic! Probably my favourite SebastiAn track on the whole actually. Thanks for the sample as well, still only have the iTunes version of Total, really need to get the hard copy as I have been meaning to do it since it came out just haven't really got round to doing it.

i really like "Yes" too, but it _is_ frustrating for me to hear a sample source that already has in it so much of what's good about the new song. this has the "yow!" shout, the riff, the layering of the riff when it descends, even the cool subdivisions in the drums when that happens. SebastiAn adds that huge cacophonous cloud of voice fragments, which is a nice touch, but there's a crucial difference between "Harder Better Faster" and "Digital Love" sampling (substantial, but ultimately plenty transformative) and "Robot Rock" and "Yes" sampling.
