View Full Version : Favorite Childhood Cartoons

Well, as the thread title suggests, this is a thread where we'll remember our childhood. Beat you to it Aero5555

The first cartoon I remember watching endlessly was Tom & Jerry

Then, I remember seeing the Ninja Turtles, Cowabunga !!! ;)

I also remember loving the Power Rangers (technically not a cartoon). I loved the first Power Rangers up to nearly the end of the first Power Ranges (you know, before the craptacular Power Rangers Zeo and follow ups)

I also saw Superman: The Animated Series, and Spiderman. Even if there are repeats, I love seeing those.

I was a big Pokemon fan when it first came out. The first 150 Pokemon rule Charizard was my favorite (Glad that Charizard will be playable in SSBB) ^_^

As for anime, I remember watching Knights of the Zodiac. Great anime right there. I also went through a period of Dragon Ball Z madness. Favorite Saga? Cell Tournament.

I think my favorite cartoon ever is Batman: The Animated Series (Batman's my favorite hero)

I'll probably remember more shows later...

What were your favorite TV shows as a kid?

Captain Planet!! Yes Pauly!!! That was good, I actually managed to download the first episode, that brought back memories.
I used to have Cartoon Network before it was crap you see, so Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, The Jet Set, Scooby Doo...
I saw the first ever episode of Dexter's Laboratory, which is still in the top 10 funniest things I've seen ever.

Then I never had TV for many years, so I don't know what happened, I just watched tapes every so often.
I had the Pokemon Yellow game though, I'd say I like Pikachu, out of default.

I would have to say, cartoon network did use to have some quality shows, Dexter's Lab and Johnny Bravo were classic.
Also lots of WBros (bugs bunnny etc) and Taz. Man, I feel so old, I can barely remember my childhood! !sad

Where do I begin? XD

Hmmmmmmmmm, well, Disney-wise (fanatic).

Ducktales, Darkwing Duck, Goof Troop, Quack Pack, Gargoyles, Aladdin (The series), Gummi Bears, Recess and some others I can't recall at the moment. If I had to narrow it down, I'd say Darkwing Duck and Goof Troop are my old time disney faves.

Generally-wise, the Looney Tunes were great (my dad used to do impersenations of Yosemite Sam's voice and me and my little bro used to DIE laughing back in the day), Tiny Toons also another classic, Animaniacs, Pinky And The Brain (Narf!), Thundercats (before Toonami ever existed, even CN actually), Silverhawks, Transformers, Bionic Six, Inspector Gadget, Spiral Zone, COPS (cartoon), Hammerman (yeah that hillarious intro! XD ), Captain N: The Game Master, Carmen Sandiego, Duckula, Danger Mouse, Teddy Ruxpin, MASK, Captain Planet, Defenders Of The Earth, Ghostbusters (old and real, both were cartoons), Voltron, G-Force (Battle of The Planets), Double Dragon, Ren and Stimpy, Doug, Rugrats, Denver The Last Dinosuar, Bucky O'hare, Mr. Bogus, Grandizer (Goldorak for the French fans).

I'll be back with part 2 once I can recall the rest and get rid of the nostalgia I'm feeling right now. XD

(I got so much love to give...... to cartoooooooooons!)

Tom & Jerry! XD

The Hanna-Barberra series of T&J cartoons were the most memorable. I wish Tom was real, I'd hug him to death (loves cats XD ). The animated movie (1992) wasn't bad also.

Anyone remember this Australian cartoon that the opening song was like "D I N K Y... D I N K Y... dinkydie!" or something like that? It was about this legion (kinda like Superfriends) where the members are all animals and they protected the enviroment from pollution and stuff, the leader was this Kangaroo and I remember the 2nd in comand was this Native American kinda hawk. Can't remember the rest of it nor the name of the show, can anyone help me?

You see godiecool? I told you, once I open my mouth to talk about childhood cartoons, I won't shut up LOL! XD

So many to list ;)

Transformers (Gen 1 of course), Ullysses 31, He Man, Thundercats, Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors, Inspector Gadget were all very cool for me as a kid.

I have recently got into the gem that is Galaxy Express 999 from way back in the 70's (by Leiji Matsumoto who did Interstella) - such a shame it never made it onto UK screens because I think it had huge potential and would have fit perfectly into my tastes as a kid.

Daft Snow - I think the cartoon you are on about was Denver The Last Dinosaur ;)

I also watched a cartoon called Bobby's World. Anybody heard of that show?

Yeah, I watched my share of Looney Tunes, like everyone else.

I watched the Power Rangers movie (the 1st. one) several months ago. I remember I loved it when I saw it in theaters. Seeing on TV these days, I gotta say that the movie SUCKS !!!

LOL, I was watching an old Power Rangers episode a couple of weeks ago. What a piece of crap; I can't believe I loved that show, lol xD

The Mask, that was a great cartoon.

No Batman: The Animated Series fans? :(

Oh, I also remember an anime about soccer. Can't remember the name though; it was funny cause the moves were so over the top xD

Beast Wars was a VERY good show (along with Reboot), Bobby's World too (used to love that show, I'd make my bro tape the episodes if I was busy with my school homework LOL!), but they're all mid-early 90's cartoons for me, so they aren't as nostalgic as what I mentioned previously. Hmmmmm, Batman was nice, but not that memorable (the 90's version of course). The Mask! the cartoon that actually introduced me to a movie! LOL!, but again, 90's stuff aint as memorable to me like the older stuff, although they're still classic no doubt.

Oh and about that soccer cartoon show, I have a feeling it's either two choices

This american cartoon called The Hurricanes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ls630feXPk

Or (and I think this one's it)

a famous Japanese anime called Captain Tsubasa: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9dPJsrPhLI

I used to watch both, but Captain Tsubasa is the more famous and well-known outta the two (yeah I've known Tsubasa since I was a preschooler, don't ask me how, I just do ^_^ ).

godiecool
7th Sep 2007, 23:23
^Yes, it was Captain Tsubasa. That cartoon was awesome.

I remember there were some soccer games that were like 45 episodes long xD

Oh, and those powerful shots that hit other players, and took them along for the ride xD

Aero5555
7th Sep 2007, 23:28
I used to love the SNES game (Captain Tsubasa 3) like crazy, my cousins had it and I could only play it at their house. Wanted to buy it but I couldn't find it, had to wait 8 years until SNES emulators got popular, the ROM was the first one I ever downloaded for the emulator LOL! I even bought the PS2 game last year.

The show was nice, but too cliche, 2nd season was MUCH better (when they actually learn some super shots, the eagle and tiger shots to be exact), very intresting ending.

The Mask, that was a great cartoon.

Oh yeah, I used to watch that. I remember they had a competition, you had to watch the show and at the end of each episode you would be told a character had a number between 1 and 50. Months later you had to say who had # 3, ? and ? (yeah, I remember 3, funny the things that stick) to try and win.
Feel like watching the movie now, introduced me to Jim Carrey (I always used to love his teeth/smile).

These two videos contain montages of classic 80's cartoons set to a song (the first one's I Need a Hero, and the second one's Run With Us, the classic song from the cartoon The Raccoons), it contains footage of some of the cartoons I mentioned previously, plus a few I haven't but I'm familiar with none the less.

Personally, I like the 2nd video more, because the song truly fits the mood, pure 80's composition if you know what I mean, I can't help but smile everytime I watch it, enjoy! :)

Strangely, the scene where Rocko gets bad eye-sight and feeds the dog (Spunky was his name I believe) fertilizer instead of dog food suddenly popped into my head, oh and then grass grows on Spunky's back as he eats.

hmm... i was wondering this the other day, did anyone watch/does anyone remember a show called "The Gnomes"? or something... maybe "David the Gnome." one day quite a while ago, i saw a signature from the show on another forum and was totally "OMGWTF!?DAVIDTHEGNOME!!" lol

it was on Nick Jr. when i was pretty young and i used to watch that and "Maya the Bee," "Eureka's Castle," et al. all the time.

when i was a little older (the parts of elementary school when we had cable) i was a big fan of shows on CN and Nickelodeon, but was never a fan of "classic" cartoons Looney Tunes and Hanna Barbera. (though for a while i liked quite a few of the HB shows before they started repeating over and over. lol)

I'm 22 (born 1985), I've been a cartoon junkie since I was a toddler, and I was mostly watching TV as a kid, didn't have that many friends back then. I was fortunate enough to experience these 80's classics thanks to reruns of them on TV (between 1990-94), after that, they kinda slowly started to fade away and the 90's stuff took over, but they were not forgotten hehe. I had recorded episodes of them on tapes that I frequently watched. :)

Here's another 80's title you guys probably don't remember, Raggy Dolls anyone?

it was on Nick Jr. when i was pretty young and i used to watch that and "Maya the Bee,"

Maya e Mellisa! ^_^ (That's greek for Maya The Bee by the way)

If you guys ever wanna remember a show or cartoon you grew up with, just youtube it and believe me, you'll be surprised how some people still remember the show and post videos of it.

I always liked Captain Planet. And I used to get up at 5 am when I was about 4 to watch Astro Boy. I was a huge Pokémon fan but since I was like 14 or something when it came out, it's kinda shameful to admit sometimes. The cartoon shorts in 1970's/1980's Sesame Street still own everything though.

a Goofy Movie, The Lion King, Disney's Aladdin, Ducktales The Movie.

I especially used to watch Aladdin and Ducktales The Movie like 3 or 4 times a week and never get sick of them XD

EDIT: The Moomins! LOL! Last summer I was having a chat with my cousin about old cartoons we used to watch back in the day, we got so into it we took a trip down memory lane browsing through old cartoon intros on Youtube, sadly no Moomins video back then, but we remembered them anyway and sang the closing theme lyrics "The Moomins are having fun day after day, the Mooooomins! *repeat*", those were the days XD

They had to complet the medal by finding the 4 or 5 pieces in the end of the differnt games they played along the show, the show was about 1 Hour leng...
^______^
In those times Nickelodeon used to have advertisments in the middle of the shows abot theyr other programmes with Arround the world... Remember Rocket Power? in those times it was...

Hm. Well, when I was wicked small I was hardcore into Barney. Not sure if that counts. Hah. But, once I actually started watching cartoons on my own will I was really into Doug. I also love all things Ninja Turtles. Hah. Cartoons and movies. My myspace display name is:
Go Ninja, Go Ninja, Go![Stronger]

So......yeah. I changed it to that one day after watching the movie and I had it stuck in my head. It's been like that ever since. I added the [stronger] for Daft Punk a while later.

I know this isnt a cartoon but does anyone remember...

LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE!!!!!!! http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q320/Robot_Angel/225px-Legends_of_the_Hidden_Temple_.jpg

I have like 8 VHS tapes of nothing but that show.

I miss old school Nick so bad. !sad

PS - Old school Nick makes my life. Back when it was Nickelodeon and not NICK. They still give alot of old stuff on this special Nick channel I have. I see Legends of the hidden temple all the time. And even at the ripe old age of 22 I still shout "I'm the RED TEAM" which then starts a chain reaction and people start shouting colors, and we root for our teams which always seem to fail during the first "rope across the water" mission. I am lucky enough to make it to the "stairs of questions" phase before my teams fails on me. Hah. I don't think "my" team has won... ever. Haha...I'm bad at picking I guess.

Speaking of Nick gameshows, I used to LOVE Nick Arcade! You guys remember that show? Boy oh boy how great it was, a show where you play video games in order to win prizes, what more could you ask for? XD

And another gameshow I grew up with, The Crystal Maze! It's opening theme is classic, I have the mp3 if anyone's interested.

With regards to Nick Cartoons, Doug and Rugrats were my favourite. WB cartoons-wise, Pinky and The Brain FTW!

darkwing duck, duck tails, gargoyles.

High five dude! Add Goof Troop to the mix and you got a classic lineup :D

What were your favorite TV shows as a kid?

when i was 7 i watch x-men, digimon, pokemon, power puff girls, power rangers, inspecteur ( :) ) gadget, bugs bunny... and i get my first iPod on my age of 5 :)
those are in 2000 years... i still love ash, daisulki, bubbles, pink ranger, penny and bugs bunny!
now my donuts are guyf-man and haku in spirited away, whoo i'm in love with a real and imaginary pplz!
2000... fox kids hah!
i h8 disney!
