Okay well I'll just go ahead and explain it. Upton Sinclair ran for governor of California in 1934 and his platform was called "End Poverty in California" or in other words: EPIC. Well he lost the elections so he failed to become governor. He is the EPIC fail guy!

re: Upton Sinclair... all i thought of was The Jungle. 'least i know who we're talkin' 'bout.

it also reminded me of that one guy... Abel Upshur. lol he had some epic fail associated with him, too. (now if you know what i'm talking about--without having to look it up--i will come over to your house and bake you a cookie of your choosing. from scratch.)

@Pants - Upton Sinclair isn't an internet meme. (not yet anyway...)

Is that easier to understand, Pants?

In other news, I feel great today! Lately I've had some kind of stomach virus where if I ate something, before I would be close to being full I'd just feel sick. (it's kinda like the gag reflex kind of feeling when something touches your uvula) Then sometimes just the smell of some foods made me sick. Well today I ate just fine and I actually was able to eat until I was officially full! It's so nice to finally fill my stomach without feeling nauseous. :D

Thats one thing i dont understand with people. Why does everyone have to go with company?
You could've just gone alone. You probably wouldnt make a fool out of yourself with all the dancing and jumping and you could end up meeting someone cool, that likes the same kind of music you do.

But i especially hate it when its to go shopping (not to hang out at the mall, actually shop). Why waste some 30 minutes schedualing everything and then have to meet up, and a lot of times, you still have to wait for the company and then still have to get there (in my case catch the bus and do a full 45 minute ride to get there), when you can just grab your things and go. Saves you time, pacience and annoyance.

Anyways, im feeling a bit upset for some reason, i should be studying for a History test tomorrow, but i think ill just put the book on the bed (to tell my mom i studied) and take a nap.

this one girl on the team actually did get pregnant though in the beginning of the season. she just had her baby a week ago, so her and the father (who also happens to be on the team) are out for the rest of the games. we all joke with her that the baby (his name is Xavier!!!!) will be a bowling legend... either that, or she can use her little 10 lb wonder as a ball. so i seriously think i should switch out of my math class. besides the whole 'i really should be in the honors level course instead of the academic level course' the people in my class are just SO dumb i really dont want to be with them. i have no friends in that class... everyone else is a grade higher than i am. and theyre all really obnoxious and dont want to do any work.

theres this girl who sits next to me who has the same name that i do, and its killing me because if she is the EXACT stereotype of my name: dumb blonde popular cheerleader with the nasally high-pitched voice and the so-low pants.. (although admittedly the last two were my creation in the stereotype)

but its like... i dont want to be insulting her but GAHH shes SOO stupid... she asked me how i got one answer, and i told her to put the data in the list, go to a certain function, change the settings, go to another function, scroll over, pick one, and then scroll down and enter in a formula or something and she just stared at me and was like 'wait.. whaaaa? how do you make the list?' *bangs head on desk*

it just bugs me because a lot of people think all of these stereotypes when they hear my name.. and i dont think im any of them. and yet my teacher gives me those looks after two days of being in her class that she doesnt expect anything from me at all... =[

Anyways, I went over to mah uncle's house for his birthday and I killed at RockBand. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely hate RockBand / Guitar Hero / anything like that. Why don't you learn the damn instrument instead?!?! Plus people think that learning RockBand / Guitar Hero will make you good at the real instrument. Uh, no. Gah, pisses me off. Also, people think that if you're good at an instrument (in my case, I just so happen to be fluent in guitar, bass, drums, and to a lesser extent singing) you'll be amazing at the video game. NOT TRUE!!! I suck at these games, and my friends say I'm a loser. DAMN YOU, FAKE MUSIC GAMES!!!!

I like to view Rock Band and Guitar Hero as something completely different from playing a real instrument. Only thing I can see actually possible through Rock Band would be pitch practice on the singing. Though I can get 100% on Still Alive, I KNOW I can't sing. It's just that I'm able to match the pitch perfectly.

Here in Scotland, the highest temperature we are likely to see in summer, on average, would be about 6 or 7C. We might get a few days where it goes up to about 10-12C, but those are not common. We get snow once or twice a year in the winter and the temperature is usually between 0 and -5C.

Well Pants, where I live we had ice on our roads. The police reported a very high percentage of accidents because of how slick the roads are. So it's not always the matter of how cold it is, just how safe the roads are to travel on. Believe me, the staff at my school would give a crap if it was -15 degrees ferinheit, we'd still have to come to school. It was the ice that stopped the school.

Pants3000
30th Jan 2009, 00:27
Meh, there's ice on our roads most of the time too. Solution? Winter tires. Then again, I doubt it would ever get to -15F (-26C) where you live.

Jo_The_Marten

And we don't have winter tires. So there's not much we can do.

same with me. my driveway was a solid sheet of ice this afternoon when i was coming home from school.

hilly driveway + lots of ice + me trying to carry an 11 pound bowling ball in a rolling back and my backpack = an extremely hard time trying to get up there.

like jo said, sometimes it doesnt really matter how cold it is OR how much snow you get. the last snowstorm we had two days ago, it snowed for a few hours, but then was followed by a few more hours of freezing rain. that created a thick layer of ice over the snow and the roads and everything, so it was hard to melt. our school busses dont really have what you would call 'winter wheels' and most of them have to go through really hilly roads to get to houses.

(plus hey, its a day off of school. why complain?)

Alex
2nd Feb 2009, 19:11
Why do i seem to destroy everything i touch?
Right now, the screws on my MP4 were loose and the whole device got loose, so i decided to get a screw driver. But i couldnt find one. And then i lost the screw. That thing is like 1 milimeter long and thus impossible to find.
Then, the on/off button came off, and to put it, i had to remove the whole device. After i put the button back on, the bottom button was not working, so once again i removed that thing from its shell and tried to fix it. In the meantime, the it was shutting off constantly due to me messing in it, meanining i had to push a little square on the back to turn it off and turn back on. But then, the square broke off, meaning i had to use a pin to get to the part that is underneath the broken part to push it back on.
I put it back onto the shell, and now it works, apart from the fact that i can only put it on stand-by, the bottom button doesnt work as it did, and one of its screws is missing and the other is loose.

Also counting the number of stuff i have broken over the years, from cups to dinners to game pads to computers.

Yeah, i have the reverse Midas touch.

staceylala
2nd Feb 2009, 19:16
Lol, I've broken about three cameras, four phones, a laptop, an ipod, two mp3's, a dvd player, about two computer screens, two imacs (that belonged to my college)... and a TV, but that was on purpose. lol.
So you're not the only one ;)

i've seen pics. seems a fair bit. like probably the last time i actually was in good snow like that, i was up near your part of the world, when i was in the Chicago and Indiana area last year for New Years.

as for temps here. it's totally 56F (13.3333333333333333 C) so yeah. definitely not snow-able...

@amq: what kind of player was it. and if you just got it (didn't you say you got it for Christmas or something?), shouldn't it still be under warranty? like i dunno what they'll say now that you have done stuff to it, but assuming you're taking care of it as it should be there's no way it should be that crappy unless you've been throwing it around or something... call the company and ask about repairs/replacement; if that doesn't work, buy a better brand next time.

Well, its less than a month old so its in the warranty, but if it take it to the shop, thayll notice the missing screw and the broken on/off switch, and the store policy is that the produts must be just like they were sold, ie no damage nor modifications.

And it is odd how the screws came loose, it hasnt fallen as far as i know, and i have it with me all the time, with the headphone neckstrap tieing it in. So its odd, but ill ask my dad to tighten the screw and if im lucky, put a new one in place of the other, or just put some tape on the top so it doesnt come off.

But this is my 2nd MP4 in less than a month, and since it was my dad who bought both, i think he will be upset with me.

Guess ill buy myself a proper one when my birthday comes along.

Only cool people drink Orange soda, Pants. Which means you aren't cool anymore.

Jo_The_Marten

Now now Aria, we're not arguing over which Orange Soda is best. We are stating that Orange Soda is cool. Doesn't matter what kind of Orange Soda.

Pants3000
4th Feb 2009, 03:00
I agree with Aria. Orangina is cool because it's not actual pop.

Slightly deviating from the topic, do people in the U.S. and elsewhere call it "soda" and not "pop"? Or both?

digital*aria
4th Feb 2009, 03:02
i THINK this is right but im not sure:

in northern U.S. its "soda" (hence why i call it that)

in the south and midwest its "pop"

anywhere else its just "coke" -- rumor. dont know if its true. but ive heard a few people out west say that...

Pants3000
4th Feb 2009, 03:13
I see....well, now I know. That always confused me.

hah so now you went from fifty posts behind me to over a hundred posts ahead of me... accomplishment?

piroteki
4th Feb 2009, 03:24
@ Pants: i drink orange soda. so there. :P they finally restocked it in the machines in the art building so i was totally like "score!"

@ Jo/aria: it was Fanta, actually, but both Sunkist and Orangina are good.

@ Pants/aria: that's a debate you're getting into there. it's been widely discussed, and i've even seen a "pop"/"soda"/"coke" distribution on a US map. but it varies regionally. i think you can say "soda" pretty much anywhere, though.

fwiw, i say "soda" and speak more like someone from the Northeast. i think a lot of Southerners [or at least in the Southeast, where i live now] refer to soft drinks in general as "coke" a lot. (but "soda" is still common.) and i've heard a lot about where "pop" is from... i think maybe Midwest, but that always seems to be the one people argue over.

Pants3000
4th Feb 2009, 03:35
Yeah, that's definitely an accomplishment.

It seems that everyone in Canuhduh refers to it as "pop". Meh.

digital*aria
4th Feb 2009, 03:42
is that a bad thing then, pants, adding a 'meh.' at the end of that thought?

Pants3000
4th Feb 2009, 03:46
No, more like a "Whatever floats yer boat" type of "meh".

digital*aria
4th Feb 2009, 03:50

Sorry I haven't been on here lately guys (if anyone even noticed that I wasn't online for like two weeks). Anyway, I'm gonna be on more now, so hopefully more time for posting =D

For once in almost 2 weeks I have something to be happy about! My mom is doing better, and can now walk without her left leg brace :D (although she still needs the right one).

Also, gave a speech today that I've been fretting over for 2 weeks, and of course did great, so all that worry was for nothing :P Oh well, at least I'm stress free now! FREEDOM!!!! :D :D :D

Also a late congrats to melkoret!! =D

"g'damn!" at everyone's school hours! actually i wanted to start a thread about that sort of thing for my own personal interest, so i might do that, but while we're on it, my normal!middle and high school hours were 8:00-3:15.

oh and i forgot to say, but the high school i graduated from, was pretty much the same style as a college/university schedule, so you'd have varying amounts of classes and breaks.

and this semester, the earliest i start classes is 11:00. :] somedays i have as few as 50 minutes of class, other days i have around 6 hours.

this is to Electro_Ma:

you know how you were complaining a month or two ago about having to get your wisdom teeth taken out and how much it hurt and everything?

i went to the orthodontist today and they were looking at x-rays, and apparently i dont even HAVE wisdom teeth. they said they wont grow in in the future because they arent even there and arent developed.

is that possible?

yes it's possible.

i had all four, and all four had to be removed. (wasn't actually that bad, except for the dry socket and infection. and because of those two incidents, i will forever have that sort of associations with the taste of cloves...)

anyway, both of my brothers supposedly had none, but we recently found out that the original "diagnosis" wasn't true for one, and he'll have to have two out. (i can't remember if he only has two, or if he has more but only has to get two removed... the other still has none.) but yeah, i don't think it's unusual to not have them. and not everyone who has them has to get the removed; just depends on whether they're growing in properly/your mouth has enough room to accommodate them.
