@aria/Pants: yeah, it does depend. i'm not sure why my spring break is the way it is, but in my "home town"'s spring break was the week of this really big golf tournament that's nearby. (since it's like srs bsns and stuff, 'pparantly.) but we still got Good Friday off or something, so it was like a long weekend. i'm not sure if i get any off days around Easter in college, though... i kinda think that i don't...

I see. Last week of March for us, including the universities. However, the colleges don't have spring break. Instead they get something called "Reading Week" (don't ask, I have no idea where they got that from) and that's the third week of February, I think.

(in my opinion, its harder to keep track of the stickied threads because theyre at the top of the page underneath all of the 'barely-visited' rules threads and the yellow buttons next to them dont change color when there are new posts.)
but i AM wondering if there is ever going to be a "Get to know everyone else in the club! Talk about anything you like! PART 2" thread, like the second "Daft Punk Pictures"

So, yesterday i was at my course and we had to say an episode of our lives to someone else (good or bad).
My friend said his, and then when it was me, i realized, i had absolutely nothing to say. I realized that my life is an absolute borefest.
Everyday i wake up, get ready, go to the bus stop, catch the bus, go to school, bore myself there, get back home, go to the computer, have dinner, come back to the computer and go to bed.
Thats it.
Good god, i just described my last 4 years.

@amq: Dude, there's a sense in which I wish my life was more like yours. You need a passion that's what you need. i'm with Ms. lala on this one. i was never a really huge fan of having "threadname [part 1]" and "threadname part 2" with forums, i just feel like if you have one massive thread, that's totally fine. the only reason we have a two part DP pictures thread is because people were clamoring for it and went ahead and started the second one.

Grits is this rather discusting thing they eat in southern US, it's bits of corn basically, it's what white trash like Britney Spears eat. You can add salt, and butter, and bacon, and cheese, and basically anything you can *afford* to have it not taste dreadful. No offence to anyone who likes it though, liking it doesn't mean you're poor and southern, it just means I recommend you try porridge. That's much nicer.
So, i got distracted and left home for gym 2 minutes before the start of the class.
I was gonna go "screw it" and skip it, but then i remebered it was Handball evaluation. So i ran to the bus stop. After waiting for a while i decided to make a run for and just run to school and catch the bus when it passed by.
So i ran from here to my school, for 3 whole kilometers, mostly uphill. Took me 25 minutes to get there and not one bus came by me.
So, i get to class and i see everyone still running, so i was like "phew, maybe i can make it". I ask the janitor to open the locker room, get ready, and when i come into the pavillion i said to my teacher "Can i join? Sorry im late". And he just looks at me and says "No." So i sat on the bench, wiped out because of the run, while watching everyone else playing.
I hate handball. I hate March. I hate Fifa 09 for making it so compelling.

2. As I've said to you before tom, your niece is a lil' cutie and I agree with boutboulman... (to help, play Daft Punk to her while she sleeps, it's like, a subconious thing)
3. Damn, I hate running... I've never ever run for a bus in my entire life (nor do I plan to) and I've only ran for a train once and it's the only thing I regret in my life.
4. I'm still hiding from thomas' evil serial killer eyes.

oh come on. that's a kinda distorted explanation from what we told you.
i've never had it and never had the inclination to try, so i can't really talk about whether it's "discusting" (:P) or not. but i have enough friends who like it i suppose.
but you shouldn't say that it's stuff white trash eat. because it's not. it had origins as a food poorer people ate, but it's doesn't really have those connotations anymore. just a kind of southern/country food.
but it's basically it's ground up corn ("bits of corn" makes it sound a bit different...), like corn meal maybe? ...just read the wiki article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grits) if you're interested.

But a big meet up would be really awesome though. I suppose one in the USA and one in Britain, and maybe one in Paris for the sake of it. I'm sure it will happen to some degree or other eventually though. It must really. :)
Oh, and thankyou to all those from here who listened to that show. I'm extremely grateful. Thanks again.

I just hate how adults (meaning people older than you are..) automaticly think that when your listening to a song they know (anything by daft punk)..
They think your just listening to a remix of the original song.
I was listening to some remix of Around The World
and my dad says;
"That a remix of a remix?"
Me; "No.."
Him: "I remember listening to an around the world song in clubs in the late 90's"
Me: "Around the world by DAFT PUNK is the original song. It was released in 1997!"
It kinda gets my mad..
It really gets me mad when they go;
"Hey I know this song!"
I reply; "Its one mroe time by daft punk released in 2001"
and they go;
"No no no, I remember this a long time ago, its older than that. It must be a new remix or something"
That gets me frustrated.
NiteShade
12th Mar 2009, 19:49

ditto on the how did it break? depending on whether it's a software mess up or a hardware mess up, it can be fixed. (but like, if your platters got scratched, there isn't much hope for that...) you should also try to tell us as many of your computer's/harddrive's specs as possible/you can remember.
wow, aria, your situation is actually pretty lucky. water spills are pretty easy to salvage from, but if it's anything other than water, you have to worry about whether connections/parts have corroded and/or sticky residues effecting how parts physically work. but i'm glad you got your stuff back, in any case!

laptop harddrives are totally removable. depends on your model as to how removable, though. (teehee, in MacBooks it's insanely easy.)
if you look up your model number, you'll probably find a handful of tutes on the internet on how to get in there and mess around. but you should be careful while doing so. also, take into consideration whether you still have a warranty you'd be voiding if you did so. (if you do still have a waranty, take advantage of it, and see if your manufacturer will hook you up!)
you've never told us what happened to it anyway...

i really try not to swear. the only time i ever have was when i killed my laptop, but thats probably because i was freaking out and breaking down, hysterically crying...
but im probably the only one out of all of my friends who never curses or swears or anything. to me, if someone says '**** THAT MOTHER****ER IM GONNA ****IN' CUT YOU!' it really does lower my respect for them. (im talking about people who swear every other word, not who occasionally use it, by the way).
but even so, my parents have recently decided that it was 'alright' to start cursing in front of me, and its just a weird feeling because they always held back when i was younger. its just something ive never done or heard when i was growing up so the habit stuck with me. and id like to keep it, because i really dont see how cursing when something wrong happens or you dont like something would be any better than substituting another word.
and that is why the word 'grr' is my best friend. =]. even if id WANT to curse, grr just automatically comes out. and psychologically, i find that better for myself. because instead of just yelling out a stream of curse words, by simply saying 'grr,' it somehow lessens how extreme the situation is for me. think about it. it might seem like an immature way to respond to a horrible situation for some, but by saying grr, it downplays the severity for myself. so that way i wont get freaked out and overreact so i can stay calmer in a bad situation.
oh and by the way, welcome back, Pants. where exactly did you go?
Pants3000
14th Mar 2009, 18:22
I agree, Dan. I tend not to swear in public or in front of my parents, but I curse a blue streak when I'm frustrated or freaked out.

We went to a world-famous museum about four hours away from where I live. Huh, four hours in a bus with fifty-two 13-year-olds...how did they talk me into that one?
Anyways, I spent most of the day helping out with programs, keeping the kiddies under control, and running our own little activities (another friend came with me). Then everyone slept over under the dinosaurs that night. And I use "slept" as a broad term there...

I swear a lot, but it's not really about whether you do or don't, it's about knowing when you can and when you really really shouldn't. Like if I'm with my friends with my mum, I don't worry about it at all, when I'm with my dad I tone it down and when I'm in an environment where I know it would be inappropriate, obviously I don't swear. I don't see anything wrong with swear words, they're just words to me, but I understand some people find it offensive.

i just finished my Spring Break (well, technically it's not over until classes start Monday, but i'm already feeling a little overwhelmed by all the work i didn't do over break. :s)
i've had similar experiences, where people would be like "o_o what did you just say?! lol" whenever i swore in the past. my thoughts were that you should save it for when you're really pissed and/or mean it, so it actually has an effect. i swear to myself a lot more than i actually say outloud/to other people (and i "swear"--or as close as you can get to swearing--in Japanese sometimes, too.) but lately i've noticed that i swear a lot more. ^^;; i think that's influence from people who i hang out with both on and off line, though.
even then, it's usually not very "bad" words, though. and i don't count "damn" as swearing. i've always thought there was a noticeable regional difference in swearing when it came to North vs. South, where for example, i said "god damn" as a fourth grader and got in trouble for it (ok it was a little bad, seeing as i was at church while i was in Catholic school. lol), and i've also heard my... great-aunt (i guess that's the correct relational term?) who wasn't like rude or anything, say "god damn" like it was nothing. so part of it is kind of different standards i guess. ("hell" and "ass" are two other words i've noticed that kind of vary in general classification.)
my parents swear a normal amount i guess. not never, but not constantly, either. my mom is from New York, and my dad was in the navy. maybe that's why... lol but my dad "yells" at me for saying stupid not-even-swear-words like "freaking," it gets annoying...

im going to give you this magic carpet, and i want you to fly that to London. take the train that leaves from Platform 9 3/4, climb over Candy Mountain and swim across the Chocolate River. then take the Yellow Brick Road through the field of poppies, and if any toads come by and ask you to kiss them, it might be best to do so. there should be a giant peach on the other side of the poppy field, and when you go inside that, theres a few worm-holes. take the one on the left and go through the door. youre going to have to dodge a couple newspaper taxies, but climb up the broccoli trees, find the thickest grape vine available, and swing on that down to the marshmallow meadows. the munchkins will be available to assist you.

Most of them are very not brave and spend their days rounding up truant school children. Some I admit are and would put their life on the line, but most wouldn't and take the easy option. On the otherhand our firemen and ambulence people are great lol. Well especially the firemen, but I'm but then again any female would agree.. :)

haha nice. locally our police are pretty good, but they keep hiding out and purposely giving people speeding tickets just because they feel like it. =[
in the city, i suppose the forces would be great... if they didnt keep getting killed off. it seems like every two months or so theres a whole big thing on the news of another police officer killed in the line of duty. theyre probably all too scared to do anything now. =p

haha nothing. we'll waste the whole page with huge blocks of text "OMG 909!" "WOO! PAGE 909!" "NO ONE ELSE POST AFTER THIS, OMG, PAGE 909!" and then so many people will try to post that that one person will push it too far and get to page 910.... and then it will be over. and we'll be sad. but eventually the thread will continue. as always. =D

Lol I think the British are more like "Oh we dobn't need prtecting from the police, everything is fine" and then something goes wrong and thern we're all like "Well where were all the police?"
They're mostly arresting people for things that really can be over looked once or twice, petty things.
Also, B b b b bir bir bird, the bird is the word! lol

you're thinking of Stratfrod Upon Avon... It's not there, It's a really run down area in east london, they're renewing it all for teh games and other surrounding areas including (apparantly) my area, though I haven't seen any evidence of it yet. Apart from a big clock thats is counting down to 2012.

Lol, a lot of people make the same mistake. So if anyone books a hotel in stratford... Makes sure it's Stratford upon avon, otherwise you'll end up having the worse trip ever and end up giving your family diseases as holiday gifts.
Heres a tip for all you students out there:
If you have History, never pay to much attention to classes and dont study, because then you will have so much to say on the test that you will run out of time before you can say everything. And after you hand it you realise you forgot to mention some things.
**** thing is that im pretty sure i wont have anything more than a 12 and when i see the correction, most answers are like 5 lines long, instead of one whole freaking page.
