Just having a quick check around the the club using my Scottish cousin's computer! We're just celebrating the festivals that are here in the city but MAN, is it crazy as hell! You've got to get past large amounts of crowds just to see an act and plus, you're being handed ten tons of leaflets about the other shows! I had over 50 leaflets at the end of the day! IT WAS INSANE!

Also apparently, they don't serve my favourate food, Cooked Cat, here but instead have this thing called "Haggis". It's good but it's quite filling, like that dog I chewed on last week.

ANYWAYS. i got bored. so i started going through some old threads on the good ol' lounge here. i nostalgia'd hard, as evil would say. its kind of funny to see all the duplicate threads over the months/years, because surprisingly, there's a lot of them.

I don't think 17 is considered "minor" in Europe. Still I know 15 year olds that drink. It's not uncommon for underage kids to drink alcohol.

ever since i came back from aus ive barely been out of the house. as far as i know, it will only be two more occasions this summer and thats it.

why do all of my summers have to revolve around one big trip, and then be so anti-climactically boring afterwards?

You're actually lucky you have gone overseas, I barely go on holidays anywhere. Mum is trying to get us passports and stuff so we can head over to New Zealand eventually but I don't think that would happen. My grandfather always manages to go overseas to Croatia every year or so, I should tag along with him. :P

Yep, at 16 you can drink beer (or buy it ^^).
In pubs you're supposed to be 18, but sometimes a friend of mine (who is with us and seems pretty old ~ he's 19) lends me his ID Card just to enter...but most of time we don't need because we have girls with us (easier to enter) ;)
Yesterday, the guy (guard) asked my age, I told him 18, he asked my ID Card...I showed the one my friend lend me, he told me 'okay', actually my friend was born on June 1990, so he's 19, not 18 :P

and i do have to agree with jo on her views. i cant tell you how many times this particular discussion has come up in this thread (it seems like way too much) but i think if you don't want to drink, no one should force you to, and there shouldn't be situations in which you feel pressured to drink because people tell you that you will have a better time.

i've had sips of wine all throughout my life (my dad is a collector and says i have a better nose than he does) and have had a few sips of beer once or twice. the latter being due to the fact that my dad knew that i would hate it so much when i tried it when i was younger, that i wouldn't want to drink it again when i got older =P.

the party CAN be crazier without alcohol. i've always said, the best high you can get is when you're having a good time and goofing off with some friends to some music you love. but honestly, if you're feeling that you need to rely on drinking to forget about your problems THAT much... you might have more issues than you think.

A guy from my work (I work at a supermarket) was so drunk he passed out and they had to pump the alcohol out of his stomach at the hospital.. and he was so proud of it. :confused:

That's a good point, although I myself have never touched a drop of alcohol (and probably never will. Like Daniel said, it's a personal choice), and I do have to agree with you on the little stereotypical drunk that our parents create for us when telling us about alcohol, and some people do enliven that image and the vast majority do not.

But I don't have a huge prejudice against alcohol and smoking, but there is a limit to what we should be able to deal with when we try different things. I do however, have a huge bias when it comes to underage drinking and smoking. When I was in school, a while back, there were many a minor who smoked and drank.

And, to cap it all, peer-pressure. (Yes folks, a lecture on that too).
In my opinion, is not "cool" to smoke or drink because your friends do it, because it will have consequences, viz: Long-term addiction. Now, I have nothing against the vast majority of the human population who do smoke and drink, but is you are offered a cigarette, or a drink, just say "No".

i drink (a little). but first of all, i'm legal now. (not to say i haven't had a little before being legal). but i don't think i've ever really been drunk or wasted. just to the point Arno's talking about, where you're more happy, or a bit tipsy. (truthfully, i don't even get to that point most of the time!)

but i do also have friends (both legal and underage) who do not drink. and like others have said, it is a choice that should be respected. some people may have medical issues that make having a drink a bad idea (being a celiac, another disease, or alcohol interactions with medication). others chose not to drink because of bad experiences/memories (for example, alcoholism in the family, and experiencing the negative effects of that). some people want to be responsible drivers, so they don't drink, and yet others simply just don't enjoy it that much. i think a lot of times people may not want to explain their reasons (some reasons are easier/less embarrassing to explain than others), so you kind of just have to take their word for it.

when i started drinking my friends were nice enough to specifically tell me "you don't have to drink if you don't want to!" which i think is fairly uncommon. (but i think i was probably one of the youngest people at that party.) but i thought it was really cool of them to do that. most of the time when i go to parties, it's not unusual to have one or two people just drinking water or soda or something, so it's not that big of a deal.

i've encountered all of the different reasons for not drinking that i listed above, so i'd never push someone to drink who didn't want to. i don't like it when people tell me to drink more, especially when i'm already drinking! but i do think it's fun to have some when i'm at a party, or, now that i'm legal, when i'm out at a restaurant with friends. tastes good (most of the time. lol) and makes the atmosphere a little more fun.

This is ridiculous, a lot of people do that 'for fun', especially the youngers who just start to drink and want to drink more and more just to show off in front of friends :/ (alcohol comas are a serious problem in our current society especially for youth).

Yes, loads of people drink wine, but the 'youngs' prefer beers and cocktails, wine is a bit more for adults ;)

Most of my friends do it, and often ask me if I want, I just say 'no', not interested, we don't have to be shakeable and if someone tries to influence me to smoke, I just push him off =)

As for the alcohol/smoking issue, i have experimented drinking but im not really into it.
As for smoking, never tried and never will in a thousand years. Both my parents smoke and i dont like that so i never tried.
A couple of my friends do smoke, but i was never asked to try, and even if i was asked i would refuse.

I have the same opinion when it comes to sex, drugs and alcohol: Dont care about it, and if the day comes in which i will try it, i will let it happen, and then ill have an opinion.
