You know whats tiring? Sleeping throughout most of the day, Going to see one of your favourate bands play and then coming home and sitting in front of your computer... Phew!

you know what's tiring? waking up at 7am one morning, working all that morning on papers n stuff, going to classes til late evening, and staying up all night reading through 10 volumes of manga for citations to write a 10-page paper. then, having only just started the paper getting on an early morning flight, and then another flight, and working during the flight on the paper and later for a couple more hours in a hotel room and finally emailing the paper in at 6. thennn having to go visit family for several more hours and upon returning to hotel room and being silly enough to decide that checking up on internet is more important than sleep.

that's tiring... 41 hours or so with only minimal napping. goodnight... -_-

School lunch is French institution! It's sacrosanct! It's FOUR courses, and it's usually pretty good in terms of taste (although this varies, obviously).
An hour is clearly not enough for a proper lunch in a country that values it's food.

For reference the four courses are: starter, main meal, desert (say fruit) and milk product (either cheese or yoghurt).

I think we usually got like 45 minutes. Haha, French lunch sounds AMAZING, no wonder an hour isn't enough. In elementary school, at least they made an effort to give us normal food, then they started introducing fast food. Middle and high school were awful: all junk, I don't think I ever ate lunch from the cafeteria in high school.

So it's safe to say that my legs were totally ****ed up today. Of course I didn't make it from the bathroom to class and security picked me up. I was feet from my class when the bell rang but I guess that wasn't good enough for him. So along with 20-30 other classmates I picked up trash for about 20 minutes. I wanted to tell the security that I couldn't pick up trash but everyone else used the excuse before I could and were told that they would get Saturday school if they didn't want to pick up trash.

With regard to the school lunch convo, my school has a canteen/assembly are for lunch, and we have a little pantry where the chefs prepare and heat awesome chicken fillet rolls and pizza toasties, as well as various juices, waters, sandwiches, bagels, wraps, etc. All for "reasonable" prices: a medium chicken fillet roll [about 8"] would be €2.50. she should be posting them today. i'll post a couple of them here. i really wish i had had the camera though, those pics would have been EPIC. but there is also the chance i would have broken/lost it.

http://culture.france2.fr/musique/actu/daft-punk-s-invite-sur-scene-avec-phoenix-65502025.html

For those that don't speak french :

Big surprise for 20.000 spectators that came to applaud Phoenix on Wednesday, October 20th in the Madison Square Garden
Daft Punk, duly helmeted and gloved, suddenly appeared on stage for a feverish resumption with Phoenix of "Harder Better Faster Stronger", mixing machines and instruments.

Thomas and Guy-man did not just play this title, remaining to play on "1901" the delight of the public delirious New Yorker who did not ask for so much.

You really don't know the story of both groups not to know that both bands are connected. To make short, the guitarist of Phoenix was a member of Darlin ', the very first group of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homen Christo. Since the links did not slacken. On the contrary.

Side status, that of both frenchy groups is henceforth almost equally across the Atlantic.

Daft Punk, international techno heroes since their debuts, were joined in fame by Phoenix, who make a triumph in the USA with their last album " Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix " taken(brought) out in May, 2009.

Welcomed with open arms in the most popular broadcast shows of the country (David Letterman, Jimmy Fallon, Late night show), they moreover obtained last January Grammy Award of the best independent album for this record produced by Philippe Zdar (of Cassius) and make at present a tour very followed in the United States.

The first film was more about the atmosphere, so the jumps were far and few between. The sequel (thankfully) retained that same level of creepiness, but added quite a few more jumps.

I'm into filmmaking and (as mentioned before) I also watch a lot of horror films, so it's easy to know when something's going to jump out. Most horror films follow this rule:

1. Gradually build up tension to a high point.
2. Release that tension by making the viewer believe everything is all right.
3. Then throw out the scare when they "least expect it".

PA2 didn't follow those rules, which is what made it so scary. Best to see it in theatres.

although right now im not feeling so good. note to self: do not fall asleep while wearing contacts.

Ouch. Sounds painful.

my roommate relapsed. sucks big time. ugh.

Holy God. I hope he's okay, and I hope it doesn't effect you on your path to sobriety!

It's 2:10, I just got home from a midnight screening of Paranormal Activity 2. Being one who watches more horror films than most people ever should, I have no fear in saying that this is one of the cleverest horror films of the past 30 years.

If it's out in theatres where you are, I implore you to see it. Simply unbelievable.

I will see if I can get a friend to go with me to the theater sometime this week to see it.

Yay for fast internet! I still find it hilarious though that my phone is faster than my laptop..

I am jealous of you and your phone. It's an Android, isn't it?

So, I just got a lightsaber tattoo'd on my finger...

I'll post pics once it's stopped bleeding haha

I saw that on FB, it looked very painful and awesome.

"X" indicates... the presence of an armchair. Spam, you're right, it honestly is extremely backwards to ask a question like that.

Sorry if I'm seeming annoying right now, but I really need to get this off my chest. I haven't been having the best week.
There's a guy in our school. He's really popular, has a pretty girlfriend, 12th grade. He's nice to everyone. Except me. I don't really talk much, introverted is the word, but whenever I do want to say something, he tells me to shut up, and then makes a remark about my looks, actions, whatever. He targets me a lot. I can recall a time he referred to me as "the ugliest girl in school". Most of the time, I try to ignore him or shake it off, and usually that works, but he often gets other people into the joke. That, for obvious reasons, is harder to deal with. Especially the time where I had to deliver a speech in front of the whole school, and he makes a very ignorant comment about me (which I'm not going to say). He ended up getting the whole school to laugh at me.
Whenever I tell him to stop, it gets worse. He does something to me physically in that case. And it's not just in school, it's around the neighborhood as well.
I just don't get it, I never talk to him. He doesn't have anything against me. I don't say anything bad about him. I don't even TALK about him. Is my presence just annoying to him?
And I can't avoid him, as my school is small, and only has about 170 students. And I'm in most of his classes. Whenever I talk to a friend about how bad he treats me, they just look at me in disbelief, because he is friendly to everyone else... :conf:
Again, just needed to vent. Sorry.

STAND UP FOR YOURSELF AND SPACE HIM OUT. And when I say that, I mean, hang around with your friends, don't go near him, just blank him out completely. I am treated like this in school by another guy. but it's not taken up that well, as he and another guy are the only people who do that. I ignore him, or tell him to stfu and die in a hole or something. Be assertive, tell him to fvck off if he's chewing your ear off, and avoid him in general. [Some of that may sound a bit all over the place, but I hope I helped, a little.]

Again, just needed to vent. Sorry. I should ask him with a strong but controlled tone what his problem is. The last time someone annoyed me by kicking my bag i pushed him to a wall and asked him what his problem was and my problems where solved, but i was 13 years old back then and i would never do something like that again. But this kind of bullying seems to be a huge problem in America. Because here in my school there are a very few people that get bullyied, and even if they got bullyied its never serious. And know there are 1500 students.

Fair play for getting it off your chest, man. You all right with that?

I've had some hard time dealing with it. I always considered myself 100% straight, and when I was accused of being gay when I was 15-16 (everyone at the time thought I was gay, because I was a weird outsider), I was defending myself with all the strength I had. now, when I'm 19, I consider myself somewhat masculine, and my behavior is a bit sexist sometimes, so people even think I might be homophobic, but I'm not, it's just the way I am.

the worst part will be telling this to my girlfriend. I'm afraid it will be just too shocking for her and she'll leave me, although she's bi too.

damn, this is not as easy as I thought it would be :(

to juniper: please stay strong. you've gone through this for 9 months already and you should believe that you can get through anything if you stick to it and put your mind to it. we believe in you and we're so proud of you!

to hani: glad you were able to tell us =]

to spade: i agree with what everyone before me said- strait go up to the dude and ask him what his problem is. when he tells you to shut up, plain say 'NO'. that is no way someone who you claim to be respectable should ask. that's just a disgrace to himself, and you can even use that argument in your defense. honestly, however, some people just do that either to get amusement because they have none, or just to fill a void in their lives. if you're having a hard time standing up for yourself and asserting yourself, i know it sounds corny, but talking to a teacher WILL help. in a school that small, im sure your guidance counselors would be appalled that their wonderful little students would be acting in such a way. you have to get him exposed and turn the humiliation on him. if you dont get the message across in some way, he won't stop. its horrible that some people act this way, but i've seen it happen many times and many people don't learn their lessons because those they're hurting don't do anything about it. asserting yourself and taking the offensive on an issue such as this will win you not only some kudos, but a lot more respect from others as well. i dont know you that well, but from what i've seen of your posts, you sound like a wonderful person who would be a great friend to anyone. make the rest of your school see that too =]

i never understood parents or anyone like this, for that matter. its how a person is, and if your mother loves you, she should accept you no matter what you're like. she's your mom, for crying out loud. and you're a person. you should be able to tell anyone you want, your friends, your mom... random strangers, and they shouldn't treat you any differently and just see how great you are. i wish we had a world like that. that's the way its supposed to be. people just ruin it because of their prejudices.

I live in a country that treats different people like freaks. being gay, or bisexuar on this particular occasion, is something to be ashamed of, and my mom says that gay people are sick and they need to beg God for being cured.

I'm sick and tired of this homophobic society. I have some gay friends, and only one of them had the guts to say it out loud. he was the laughing stock of the whole school, but luckily he now lives in London where he's accepted by everyone.

am i the only one who read this part? if he is physically touching, hitting, or threatening you, that is harassment and you should try to tell someone in authority.

aside from that, i actually do not support you just standing up for yourself, simply because it seems you've already done so and it didn't help that much. what i do suggest, however, is finding some sort of mediator. i'm not sure if your school has a peer mediation program, but if it does, i definitely encourage you to go there; they tend to be very successful. if you don't, try to find a teacher/guidance counselor/administrator who can act as a mediator.

mediation means that both you and this guy talk about what the issue is with an impartial third party (peer/teacher/counselor/etc) who mediates it to help understanding and to keep both parties safe (for instance, making sure that this guy doesn't get violent or verbally abusive).

the worst part will be telling this to my girlfriend. I'm afraid it will be just too shocking for her and she'll leave me, although she's bi too.
i'm sure she will be accepting of you, since i'm sure she also probably struggled somewhat with it when she first discovered it.

it's unfortunate that male gender identity is so much more rigid than females and that male homosexuality is a lot less accepted than female homosexuality. :/ so i wish you the best of luck with embracing it. know that we support you!

im sorry, but that's just wrong. and im aware, being a person who does not believe in god and does not follow a religion, that other people have different views and think I'M crazy and wrong, but stuff like this is totally normal, and has been totally normal even before the bible/koran/whatever was freaking written. i'm proud of that friend of yours for telling people. i have a couple of gay friends myself, and they're actually pretty popular. that's how it should be, right? someday, i hope things will change in poland for you.

Yeah, you know what's sorta bad, all my family are homophobes. Which I think is bloody stupid. Gays and Bis are like normal people, just they prefer something different. It's called unconditional love.

this.

i think that there are of course going to be some people that are homophobe. but there are still people who are racist and sexist as well. the good thing is that just as most of society isn't racist or sexist (anymore, fortunately), i think you'll be surprised about the degree to which people are accepting of non-hetero sexual orientation.

another bad thing about it - my best best best friend EVER is homophobic. oops.
ah! that is scary.

i think that the reason why some people are homophobic is because they don't have experience or don't understand homosexuality. (there are a lot of hetero guys who think that gay guys will try to hit on them, for instance, which is simply not true.) there's a lot of misconceptions, and i think that some people who are homophobic are open to getting over those misconceptions if they're presented with information/experiences in the right way.

i hope that your friend will be one of those people who is open to learning about it. i think that if you are so close, he (she?) might be more open to learning about homosexuality and accepting you for who you are. it might take them a little while, though, because it is kind of surprising to suddenly find out!

like other people who've posted, i have gay and bi friends. (as well as genderqueer ones, but that's a little different story.) at the beginning of this year, one of my friends came out to me and the friends we were hanging out with and introduced us to his boyfriend at the time. it was kind of surprising to me, but my best friend kind of suspected it. (in retrospect it was fairly obvious. lol)

even though i'm accepting of lgbt friends, it was still somewhat weird/surprising for me to see him cuddling with his boyfriend, just because i had never had that experience of hanging around a gay couple before. (my other friends who are gay/bi were either mostly single or i wasn't around when they were with their significant other.)

I'll probably just ReWire Reason to Ableton anyway so I think it would be a pretty good choice.

Sorry.

I had a similar problem. It ended with the other guy being unconscious and me having a shattered knuckle. Luckily for me, the guy was too embarrassed to say anything so I didn't get in trouble. This is totally not the way to go btw. What stood out to me the most in your situation was the physical stuff. I mean all the crap that guy did was bad enough, but when he gets physical, that's just too far. I'm surprised you haven't said anything to anyone, besides friends that is.

My final advise: Take action, but not like my actions. Talk to someone with authority.

To Juni: Something that my brother told me once is "When you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up." It helped me a lot. Don't ask why it was necessary for him to say this to me.

Oh, and congrats hani. Hope things go well for you.

I can't decide if I want to get Reason 4 or not. Buying it would mean that I have 3 DAW's and I really need to learn Ableton more. I just love the synth building in Reason, SO MUCH FLEXIBILITY.
I'll probably just ReWire Reason to Ableton anyway so I think it would be a pretty good choice.

Australian person! HELLO! Please stay. So I can talk abot Australian stuff to you. We need moar Aussies!

On another note, I look like I'm baked but I'm not. My eyes are so red and watery. Stupid hayfever!!

I think I'll just give up FL Studio actually. I've gotten pretty far with it but it's time to put that old girl down.
Reason for composition and Ableton for mixing sounds pretty solid I think.

Why "put down FL is youve gotten this far with it, once again its not worth buying a new program for supposed better sounds, that's why god made vsts

Earl's got a point, there are VST's for just about everything from reggae beats to straight up bass. Change can be good, and if you dont like it you can always come back to FL, and if you've gotten used to the ins and outs of FL, Abelton will be a lot easier to use, as they are quite simillar.
BUT, just because Abelton's the industry standard doesn't mean it'll be any better for you, after all, Boys Noize made Oi Oi Oi on FL8 :D.

I've been meaning to work on my stuff, but school's really taking it out of me, I wake up and plan out some things I want to get done, then by the time I get home I just want to chill out. Suppose I just wanna break the bedroom DJ sterotype and actually make something...

abletons the standard, logic seems to be really popular among EDM producers atleast.
but then again i know justice exclusiveley uses cubase and mau5 uses ableton
and likeyou said oi oi oi was in fl so there are always outliers.

That's precisely what I'm unsure of. I don't know how good the quality of the copy I'd be buying would be either. I don't want it if it's gonna be like some floppy fake piece of crap.

I think I'll just throw together my own mask the night of Halloween, that's always fun. :)

If someone does something like that to me for a long time i think i would smack his face. What i want to say is do something before you get really really mad. Maybe call a hulpline or something, i don't know if it will help, but theyre gonna give some advice at last.

i've never heard of the first and have only read a small handful of QC pages but i guess so. what i'm really talking about is stuff like Red String (http://www.redstring.strawberrycomics.com/) and some other series like that that are probably too embarrassing to admit to following. lol

i only realized recently how expensive they are, when someone in my photo class was talking about how one she recently got was like $80. i was like ":wow:". how much do they usually cost?

Juniper
28th Oct 2010, 18:48
$80 is cheap! in toronto it depends on the artist because it usually goes by hour. so depends on how long they take. but most tattoo artists are $100-$150/hour i think. i got the sleeve that i want done priced at $1300. its pretty hard to get a tatt for under $100 anymore, unless you go to an apprentice or a really bad artist.

i had never thought of it before, i guess. i mean it makes sense that it's expensive, ofc!

one of my friends is actually an apprentice--but she lives in Japan--i have no idea if she even gets paid for her work (mostly she's worked on herself but done a few tats for others). since her visa is for teaching English, it's not quite legal for her to actually have a job where she apprentices. also she only started doing it maybe a year or two ago, idk how much experience is typical before becoming a pro.

that's mostly how i learned about tattoos, through the pictures/blog posts she's posted about her work/experiences. she has like bb octopi and some flowers that she did on herself. lol also she's a really great artist (degree in illustration), so idk about judging tattoo artists, but i feel like she's pretty damn good even as an apprentice.
