So, I'm not going to rant about it like I did in my blog, but I want to express how pissed off I am about it and get the general consensus of everyone's feelings about it. Heath Ledger died. The Police have stated that it's a possible drug related death. Which most likely means that it is. When the cops find someone dead in a pool of blood with a knife sticking out of their chest they say "Possible Homicide". When they find someone with a rope around their neck, or a gun next to their leg, and no evidence of foul play they say "Possible suicide". When they find someone with a blue-ish skin color, no cuts or abrasions on themselves, or near a bottle of Captain Morgans and some Vicodin they tend to say "Possibly drug related". We'll probably never know the truth because I'm sure his parents or someone will say he had "bad asthma" that tends to act up in the winter. Either way...it pisses me off. It's really cliche. I personally didn't have any special liking for Heath Ledger, but it still pisses me off. I'm tired of famous people or anyone in general dying from overdoses. How do you guys feel about this?

All I have to say is THANK GOD he finished The Dark Knight (the new Batman flick). I know that sounds heartless, but I was really happy about him playing the joker. It looks good and at least he got that last bit of work out.

you've been watching too many SAW films

Hahaha. Well, thank you for your opinion. Wanna take me to see the fourth one? Is it even in theaters still?

Stick your head in the oven
uh, don't really know who he was, but just wanted to mention that that particular one has already been taken, rather famously by Cynthia Plath. you're going to have to be more original than that.

i watched it on quicksilverscreen but they removed it a day later
Saw 3 is on there now
those films are sick (but good)

When I wrote those I wasn't really aiming for original as much as I was aiming for something NOT as unoriginal as overdosing. I'm sure someone swallowed a razor too.

might struggle on that as we've got the atlantic between us.

Your going to let something as small as the Atlantic Ocean stand between a wonderful movie night full of blood, gore, and the wonderful sound effects that accompany them?

WHAAAAAT!? I can't believe this... Possible suicide? I can't express my feelings right now.

Ugh. So, after sleeping on it. I feel pretty badly for not having more compassion for the situation. My feelings aren't changed about how he died. I feel that it's a very cliche way to die. It personally really bothers me when I find out that anyone has died from an overdose. I personally have a huge problem with drug use. I've lost people close to me from overdose. So, I have strong feelings about it. Either way, Heath Ledger was someone's father, son, lover, etc. So, it wasn't nice of me to poke fun of the situation. Regardless of the feelings I personally hold for drug related deaths. So, if anyone doesn't mind I'd like to do one of to things. I'd like to either edit my first statement and take out the heartless parts, or just deleting the post in it's entirety.

Well, I've edited the parts I wanted to, but I don't see this thread being missed much if it is deleted. So, the decision is entirely up to you.

what's everyone getting all high and mighty about,
aren't we allowed free speech
most suicides are a cry for help, unlucky for him no-one came to his aid.
what is it with celebs and perscription drugs?(or is it a wider problem in American society?)

viciouschick
23rd Jan 2008, 16:34
I don't know the statistics exactly, but there is alot of prescription drug use in America. You just notice it more when it's in all the tabloids with Celebs. Honestly, now that I think about it I know at least 8 people off the top of my head who use perscription drugs to get high. It's sad. I personally don't get it.

also with hyperactive children in America,i hear they just prescribe drugs to them which conditions them into thinking drugs solve every problem.
as Chris Rock said "why find a cure when you can make money off people selling them a drug so they can live with a disease"

It's true. I've been fighting with my 12 year old brother's school since last year. Everytime he does bad on a math test or something they tell us we should consider putting him on ADHD medications. My brother is very hyper and has a hard time staying focused, but he manages. They don't look at the fact that he got 100 on his vocab test, or that he scored a 8th grade reading level when he was in 5th grade. They are just concerned with his "lack of attention" when he isn't doing well in math. So, I fight with them all the time. Telling them to give me extra homework for him so, I can teach it him myself. Because sometimes you just need a second voice to get something completely you know? Whatever, I didn't mean to ramble on. But, that pisses me off too. Everyone's kid has ADD or ADHD apparently. It's not that they don't like to pay attention to math or homework when they have xbox (sarcasm intended).

dmcefc

maybe it's his teacher that's the problem.
when i was at school you could have one teacher who could control a class, and then the same group of kid's would go into another lesson and caus havoc cause the teacher was unable to control them.
also ,i dont know what it's like in the US but in Britain class sizes have nearly doubled in the last couple of years, so a few years ago a teacher would have a class of 20 kid's,now they have to deal with 30 to 40.

viciouschick
23rd Jan 2008, 17:40
Yeah the class sizes are about the same 30-40 kids. It's ridiculous. That's why they don't have the "time" to dedicate a little more help to one student, so instead they prescribe them some Adderall.

Well the accidental overdose is a bit cliche when it's illegal drugs.
But in Heath Ledger's case it was sleeping pills, and it looks about as accidental as deaths ever get.
So while I agree with some of the sentiments posted in this thread, including how ridiculous it is to give 'medicines' to children who don't really need them, let's have some respect for Heath Ledger.
I'm personally quite saddened by it, simply because it's a shame.

I'm against continuing discussion on this topic if it turns into a debate about drugs, no good will come outta it, because they'll be pro and anti debates, you guys remember what happened the last time a drug-related topic was discussed?

viciouschick
23rd Jan 2008, 19:32
Well, when I first read about it I was really upset. My intentions weren't really to start a thread on drugs in general because I have way too much to say about them. It was more to see how everyone else felt about the situation. I wanted to know if I was the only one who was actually experiencing some emotions about the situation in itself. Like I said, I'm fine with it being deleted. Makes no difference to me.

good for you!

i am very against the over/misdiagnosing of stuff like that, and the whole "let's just take this pill to fix things" approach. i try to avoid taking medicine (even stuff like for headaches) unless i have to.

i know a couple people who would probably be in the same situation as your brother if they grew up today, and they're some of the smartest people i know.

Thanks that gives me some hope. I mean I know he'll be okay. Sometimes I worry about him in highschool because it's soo much easier to not do homework and stuff, but he is a smart kid. Maybe too smart.

to get back onto the threads original idea: i dont think its fair to say something like that about ledgers death. accidentally or on purpose, suicide is not something to be joked about, or discussed lightly. its not like he was trying to get high on sleeping pills (well, i dont believe that anyway), i assume it was more of a cry for help or a culmination of other factors that just became to much for him.just because hes famous doesnt mean that his life was a joyride. its a great waste of considerable talent.

When I first started this thread the only information that was given at that time was "possibly drug related" it didn't say what kind of drugs, and it didn't say anything about "suicide". It was right after they found him and it read "possibly drug related". So, my first thought was overdose from drugs. Which, technically it was. But, I wasn't thinking sleeping pills, and I DEFINITELY wasn't thinking suicide. I thought like so many other celebrities and people in general he died from overdosing while getting some kind of high. I actually doubted at the time that it was intentional. I thought he was getting high and got a little too high and his body gave out. So, I was upset. Upset that yet another person has died from abusing drugs legal or not, prescription or not. I was a little heartless about it towards the end of my statement turning it in to some kind of game, but my general point was expressing my anger about the situation in itself. I wanted to see how everyone else felt about the facts at the time. When I wrote about it in my blog I said "I hope it's not drug related". Because it would have been better to know that he didn't do it to himself... intentionally or not. I was hoping that it wasn't a decision that he made that caused his death, but something out of his control. I definitely don't think that he had a great life, in all actuality I think that famous people have it harder than average joes. They have to deal with the exact same struggles and every day vicissitudes as we do in life, but they are doing it in the limelight. I genuinely feel bad for his family and his death. Regardless of the cause. Maybe it didn't seem that way at first in my post, but I was. Even if I was being rude and tasteless about the situation at first I was only doing so because I was upset about the situation.

I'm referring to what happened on a previous thread once the floor was opened for that kinda discussion, nothing wrong here, I'm just saying it's best we keep the drug discussion at a minimum and not let it blow outta porportions that's all.

So, I'm reading more information released concerning Heath Ledger's death and they show a picture of other famous people who died under 40 years of age. I'm flipping through it and it says "Brad Renfro who was found dead in his apartment just a week ago". I LOVED Brad Renfro. I didn't even hear anything about it. That pissed me off more than anything else. The fact that Heath Ledger is all over the place and I didn't even hear about Renfro. I realize that he might not have has as much of a commercial success as Ledger did, but that makes me sad. This is what they had to say about his death:

[Renfro was found dead on January 15, 2008 in his Los Angeles apartment, after he had reportedly spent the previous night drinking with friends. The cause of death has yet to be determined.[5] He is survived by one son, known only as "Y Renfro".]

It's so sad. So many young people dying.
