Maybe a sample player for each artist? So that people can check out the songs before they download them.

electromatic
9th May 2010, 23:45
I was considering that for a long time, but never got around to it. I think threre is a way to make one through Dreamweaver.

Also, Derek (from CTI) gave me an idea that each background for each artist page should be personallized. What do you guys think about that? I'm not sure about it at the moment.

I know it;s complex, but how about some sort of comments/rating system for each release/artist? Or a music video page? Or even some sort of link to a miniforum to discuss releases/artists?

electromatic
11th May 2010, 14:42
I think I can try to add a comments section through Dreamweaver, but I don't know how to create a forum.

Le Attention to all GSR Electronic Artists:

Sebon has given me a project to sort out. It is apparently to be a compilation album of all our electronic style stuff. I'd assume french house or normal house works too.

So please PM me the track you would like to use for this release. Send one or two tracks in 320kbps mp3 please :)

Dark.

electromatic
11th May 2010, 21:03
Maybe you should make a seperate thread specificlly the this if the admins say it's ok. I can't wait to see what you come up with Dark.

Nik Strobe
11th May 2010, 21:14
Dark, can I send you the Strobe song in m4a format?

mp3 makes my songs loose copious amounts of quality. Although you can convert it once you've got it if you think you can without it going rubbishhhh.

yeah thats fine, I can convert from m4a.

Electro, it'd probably be best to leave it in here. People need to PM me for info in any case...

electromatic

Ok that's fine.

Dark_DJ
12th May 2010, 13:00
So, um, yeah. Got one track back so far, from "Strobe", for this project. I'm still trying to consider what track to use for myself. Perhaps ill create something entirely new. I would use ATYSADIF but it is betroved to Matthew Riley's next release :)

I'll definitely be accepting old tracks, new tracks, tracks on current releases etc.

Genres have to be electronic or house. (Includes Techno, Trance, House, French House, electronica or experimental genres.)

Electro, you might want to put this on your bloog to drum up interest. But please mention that they have to contact me first.

New Compilation In Progress
by Get Some! Records

http://getsomerecordsnews.blogspot.com/2010/05/new-compilation-in-progress.html

Dark_DJ
12th May 2010, 23:22
When are you gonna send your entry to this then, electro?

electromatic
12th May 2010, 23:45
After May 21st, I won't have a lot going on, so I'll get some of my new tracks together and completed.

electromatic
12th May 2010, 23:58
I just edited the design of the home page. I hope you like it. :)

Pants3000
13th May 2010, 00:18
If I may request, can we not toss any DJ Muziek stuff on there that's from before Metal Skeleton? That would be greatly appreciated.

electromatic
13th May 2010, 04:33
For the compilation? You send the tracks you want to Dark.

Dark_DJ
13th May 2010, 08:10
Yeah pants, send me whatever track(s) you like! Only limit is they have to be electro/house/expermiental etc. But thats not a problem for most on the label?

In other news for this, i'm pretty ceertain im gonna put my latest track on the compilation, "Juniper Rocks".

electromatic
13th May 2010, 20:50
I'm curious to know. :) Let's take a question & answer. Haha. What do you guys think of signing other genres of music to the label? What's your thoughts, opinions, etc.?

Pants3000
14th May 2010, 00:16
I don't mind it. As long as we don't have one genre that completely monopolizes the whole thing. That would make artists in other genres feel out of place.

electromatic
14th May 2010, 04:21
This label, from now on, will always have a mix of genres and none will take over the other. :)

HUMAN123
14th May 2010, 04:55
this guy i know made a rap song, its very egotistic and has lots of profanity, i doubt youd want to put it out, seeing as the title is "You Suck" lol

electromatic
14th May 2010, 05:09
I don't mind hip-hop at all. I really like the beats that are created (not the type that Lil Wayne or Soulja Boy makes). Something like LA Symphony or Deepspace 5 or The Tunnel Rats.

I've been trying to find a good hip-hop artist, but they either don't want to or they are very inappropriate. Haha

Nerd42
14th May 2010, 07:04
I did gets a new video for Tweezydynamic up!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcFeTLbTDqE

please put it on the site, preferably embedded

its just somebody else's video for that song with my audio swapped out but it's better than having no videos for the album

BTW today I did an extended mix of Daft Wash that should be included on an upcoming project sometime I hope

Dark_DJ
14th May 2010, 08:39
I don;t personally dislike rock or anything if I'm honest, so I suppose it doesnt matter what musics on here as long as were all working together on the label? Like you say, electro, we dont want a bias amount of genres. :)

electromatic
14th May 2010, 21:04
I think we can all work together.

Nerd42: Send me a copy of the video so Dark can post it on our YouTube page. Also Dark, would it be ok if I could have the password and stuff for the page?

Dark_DJ
14th May 2010, 21:08
i'd rather not. but send the video in any case and ill upload.

electromatic
14th May 2010, 21:15
I know in a few weeks that there will be a few more videos that I would like uploaded on specific days and I have a list of all the sites info on a document on my computer. That's why I want to have the password for the YouTube page. It's not like I would do anything to it.

Nik Strobe
14th May 2010, 21:31

because if so, surely its wrong that you're having to ask for permission Sebon? haha.

"City Life EP" Out Now!
by DJ Waybig

http://getsomerecordsnews.blogspot.com/2010/05/city-life-ep-out-now.html

http://getsomerecords.pcriot.com/

Dark_DJ
15th May 2010, 08:52
Electro, what would be the point of me maintaining the GSR youtube if you have the password then? I agreed with you that I would do the Youtube Page, and I beleive "Waybig" was meant to do the Myspace?

If you want run this label singlehandedly, external websites and all, go ahead. But I thought the idea of GSR was to run the label together?

Also, awesome for the new releases, will have to give them a listen later.

dj_waybig
15th May 2010, 16:53
Thanks for releasing City life! And as Dark said, on the blog it says "We present to you DJ Waybig's brand new titled "Indo Gold Club." " Please change that. ;D

Dark_DJ
15th May 2010, 16:59
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that here.

This is why I sometimes question the running of this label. In any case, Electro, when are you planning on releasing Matthew Riley's ep?

electromatic
15th May 2010, 17:36
Thanks Waybig for noticing that. I fixed it. I was doing 10 things at once to get this released. I was doing all of this to 1 in the morning. haha. Don't question the running, we're not perfect. Just let us know if we have an error and I'll easily fix it with no problem.

Matthew Riley's EP will come out in June. I have 2-3 other releases prepared before his.

I just want the password just to keep track of all the sites. I'm NOT going to do anything to it except upload a video from time to time. I know you're afraid that I'm going to do that, but I'm not. I'm doing this just so we don't lose any of our sites. Yes, there's people doing different things. I'm happy for that. It's just I would like to have all the info we have for each account so I can keep track of everything. All I'm asking is for the password, not the right to change everything. Please :)

Dark_DJ
15th May 2010, 17:45
I;ve alreadt deleted the account for the following reasons:

1. There hasn't been enough interest in the Youtube Account. The advertising idea never came to fruitation, and there has'nt been enough feedback about it.

2. Many of us on the label have our own Youtube accounts, or don't make proper videos.
I feel it would be more beneficial for you to instead embed from our own Youtube accounts onto the GSR website, in future, for our featured videos for GSR.

3. We, as a label, would benefit more greatly from a Myspace, Twitter, etc.

If you want to remake your own account, go ahead.

You do always seem to want to be the only one running anything anyway. Almost like you don't trust any of us to run anything for GSR?

It was all well and good keep asking for the password, but what you forget is you could always have accessed it through the google account, I beleive.

Sorry if I sound like a bit of a jerk/berk/ass/whatever. I just am really questioning the label right now.

electromatic
15th May 2010, 17:50
I'm sorry for presurring you. I didn't mean to. I do trust you guys a lot. If I didn't, would I have asked you to put together a compilation or make that page? You're very good at what you do and I'm proud to have you do what you do.

I will not remake the YouTube account. When there will be more interest in the near future, I'll let you run it. :)

I hope everything is going well with you and I hope everything is ok with us. I don't like to have arguments. :)

Dark_DJ
15th May 2010, 17:57
Thanks, I'm not a fan of arguments either. =/

Speaking of Compilations, anybody else got anything they want to use on this compilation?

electromatic
15th May 2010, 17:59
I hope we're all good. :)

What do you guys think of the new releases?

Dark_DJ
15th May 2010, 18:01
I've listened to Waybigs, and like it very much.

Not listened to Earl's yet.

electromatic

Player is my favorite song of Earl's album.

electromatic
16th May 2010, 17:50
Just to let everyone know. To clear things up, rock will not take over the label. Get Some! Records is for all genres. It does seem like rock is, but we're just adding some rock artists. Remember that there is only 4 rock artists and 11 electronic artists. We've only released one rock EP and we are releasing 2 more this month, then we're planning on releasing 5-7 electronic albums in June. I hope to get other genres on the label too.

Long story short. Get Some! Records is a label we're all genres are accepted to the label. There will not be genres taking over any genres. We are all working together. :D

Sorry, if I sounded harsh. I didn't mean to be. I hope that's all cleared up with everyone. :)

Nik Strobe
16th May 2010, 18:40
yeah man, I have never seen it as a problem anyway, I'm a big fan of Rock and listen to most genres, with some exceptions. So it's all good :)

Dark_DJ

Could I enquire as to this new thing ive been heariong about the label.

WHY do we apparetly now only release on saturdays/weekends?

electromatic
20th May 2010, 17:18
That's because that's the only time I can actually release them at a decent hour, because I like to upload them at midnight (chicago time) and have it on the internet before everyone wakes up instead of doing it at a random time. I don't know. It just has been well.

electromatic
20th May 2010, 17:28
I hope you guys liked that I did 2 releases of the same genre last week because I'm planning on doing that this Saturday as well. I'm planning on releasing the Icaria and Edge Of Attack EPs and then, a lot of June will be House and Electro with Matthew Riley, Boba Fettuccini, Electromatic and more. :)

My official discography is listed on http://nerd42.net/ where the big images are albums/mixtapes and the little ones are singles.

electromatic

Ok. I need to say this to everyone, because I've been feeling this for the past month and I can't hide it any longer.

I don't really feel appreciated at all for what I do for my music and this label on this forum. I work on this label so much, sometimes, I only get like 3-4 hours a sleep (haha) each night because I'm trying to get the site and the label to run perfectly. It's actually made me not do a lot of stuff with Electromatic and Sebon for the last few months.

Dark, I'm not posting this because of your comment. But when numerous people, besides this forum, post a comment after I did or posted or uploaded something that took a lot of the day, (this is not all the time) but sometimes the comment is about when I messed up or when I forgot something and that's all I get. I like it when someone tells me I made a mistake so I can fix it, but sometimes people harp on me for it, even here at home it happens.

I don't know why this is bothering me so much. Maybe I'm just in a need for feedback from you guys, my friends and family, and other people.

Dark_DJ
8th Jun 2010, 07:23
By the looks of it, I recon you just need more sleep o_O

People are best at critisising man, it's just a fact of life that we all needt to accept. Remember it's far easier for people to nit pick than to comment nicely.

Anyways, I thought you wanted opinons? lol. I dont think your doing too bad at running the label, but you need to relax a little perhaps? Take a break? Or at least take this bit of advice and have someone else help maintain the label...

As regards to making your own music and not having time, sometimes we dont have time to do the things we ejjoy, but if it bothers you that much not being able to do it, seriously, just take some time away from the label to perfect your music without distractions. Only for a week or two. Nobody's gonna die if you dont update the GSR page, it's not as if were a megapopular multiselling label...yet.

I've always wondered why you have not tried to "sell" our music yet. Could be something to look into now that many of us are older and in need of cashola?

I just need to relax. I'm just trying to have all different kinds of things on the site and make all the artists happy at the same time. :)

I don't hate critisizm. It's just the ones where they sound like insults not critisizms. You know what I mean? I also love opinions.

Also something I didn't realize. I've been putting plans together for photoshoots and a story together for my album, so that's why I don't make a lot of new tracks right now. I'm trying to make this the best artwork for an Electromatic album that I have ever made.

I was also freaking out because I have no new posts on my thread but my own. Haha

Hey, Sebon.
Did you made Get Some! Records all alone? The website and stuff? I've always thought that there was three of four people working on that site!
It's pretty awesome job, that you keep doing that alone. I kinda know how you feel. TuneIn Records has been pretty busy sometimes, because it was growing, and people wrote to us, and we wrote back, an then there was something wrong, and I had to do it all over again. lol
My friend ain't working on TuneIn much more, so I am the one, that is doing almost everything. I know that we aren't as big as you, and I'm TOTALLY stressed, so I would just give you some response for all your awesome work!

Keep up the good work! *high.five*

I know the deal with the website. I didn't realize that the company has been expanding like crazy in the past month. It's other users abusing the free hosting which makes things not work. My friend and I are working on a solution to see if we can get our own domain name and such.

Dark_DJ

Fair enough, that might help the site a little.

I just thoguht i';d also announce that me and matthew riley have decided to release our double feature two track ep, "Juniper Rocks" on GSR shortly.

It will include "Juniper Rocks" by Matthew Riley and "Juniper Rocks HARDER" by Dark DK and will be coming soon!

Does anyone else think that, perhaps, this label needs another "Administrator" for the blog and website? So that releases and other business can be done when sebon is not around?

Dark_DJ
23rd Jun 2010, 21:31
Here are some issues ive picked up on. And (not boasting) but I should know this stuff, as I have an A Level in business management:

The label/website/blog would benefit greatly from a small team of admins able to do the following:

Actively seek out information and news from artists on the label to update the site with. This could be done through specific news emails, Perhaps drawing up a monthly newsletter email could help encourage this.

Seeking new artists and venues for shows with advertising in different countries. Essentially, this would be the UK and USA, seeing as a majority of artists originate from these. for example, pants being scottish and me, strobe and matthew riley being english, while icaria and central axis are american in origin.

maintaining the website and blog when sebon is not avaliable. This includes news, updates to mainframe and other releases.

Having admins on different parts of the globe means a near constant opportunity to stream information and advertising. Obviously, admins will need to volounteer to do this seeing as it is a time consuming opportunity.

Also, this will be very beneficial for Sebon, as deligating responsibilities to others will allow him to pursue his own projects during the summer, while maintaining majority vote on major updates. I beleive releases on the label should be monitored primarily by esebon, but somebody else could be trained to approve and upload releases when he is not avaliable.

I myself would like to contribute in this way. I do not mind emailing artists for news, not do I mind advertising a little in my local area and ny external websites.

This is my basic action plan. Seeing as I am a co-founder of this label, I feel I should probably have some more respnsibility with managing the label. I hope this does not cause conflict: sebon runs the label fine. But it will not evolve unless more variety is injected into the development of the label.

Also: this is just my personal opinion, do not take this as gospel.

I should definitely do this as a job chaps.

electromatic
23rd Jun 2010, 22:01
Yes you should. We had a good chat today on Facebook. I'm really glad you posted this. I would like some people to help with managing the updates and advertisement and things like that. Putting the releases together and maintaining the site is a lot as it is. I hope to get all this worked out really well with the people that will be doing this. Once the website is up, GSR will be better than ever before. Thanks again Dark for helping me out through this. It really means a lot.

Nerd42
24th Jun 2010, 04:16
Here's an idea: let the artists write the news themselves, each having an account on the blog site. I know blogger can do that, and it shows who posted what and everything.

Something I don't get: Why do we have this rule that artwork has to be a certain size? We've not doing physical releases. Lo-res artwork should be fine for digital-only releases. Some professional independent artists post their albums on BandCamp with very lo-res artwork. I can understand having to delay an album release for better artwork but not a single. I suggest we either drop the artwork requirements or relax them for non-album stuff or something cause I can't always get hi-res artwork for mashups.

Dark_DJ
24th Jun 2010, 08:02
Very good, nerd42. I agree with these statements 100%. The gsr blog is a blogger account, so adding members who ise blogger to the writer list would be a good way for us to update our own news. :D

Of course, those without can still use the email function, which I beleive I will be working on soon. Ill be emailing all menbers for news updates in any case, as well as a monthly newsletter type thing.

As far as artwork goes, I think your right with reduced criteria.in some cases, artists may want a bigger, higher res artwork for albums and eps/singles. We should definitely relax the rules or edit them, being more lenient.

electromatic
24th Jun 2010, 15:31
About the artwork, I try not to force the artist to do it a certian way so it would be the right size and stuff. If I have in the past, I apologize. The main thing I do when I put the artwork in release format is putting the copyright info and label info and things like that. I don't mess with the actual artwork itself unless it's one of my albums.

I would love to have all the artists use the blog. I have one question for the people who know more about blogger than I do. I have my Sebon blog and the GSR blog under the same account. Is there anyway to transfer the GSR blog into a different account? If so, how do you do it?

I'm really thinking things are going a lot better now. Thank you Dark for starting this whole process.

Last week, my friend Brad and I went to Cornerstone Festival last week and during that time we discussed what can we do with the website. Unfortunatly, we can't get our own credit cards until September for some reason. With that being said, the new design for the website will be up later this week with the same domain name. I appreciate that you're trying hard to make everything look cool but if the label's web site is having problems, it can catch up later. The bottom line is, at least when it comes to single tracks, I'm going to have to be able to release what I want, when I want, whether the label's site is ready or not.

No offense, but what this project needs is a little KISS strategy. And no, I'm not being gay. KISS is an acronym for "Keep It Simple, Stupid!" All you really need to run this thing is a wordpress or drupal account on a free hosting service linked with an $8/year domain name, and use a free wordpress or drupal theme template to make it look cool cause there's tons of those. Or if you wanted to go ultra cheap, just get a freaking google account for the label and start a blog. It's easy as hell.

Better yet, get a MediaWiki site and do everything as a group.

Pants3000

I beg to differ.

This isn't just a home-made label for anyone and everyone to "release" their material on. It's a business and it's being run as a business. Thus, everything needs to be professional. If you want to run your own blog-label, you can do that with out any inhibitions from us. However, GSR is a business of its own and will continue to be run like one. So have a little patience.

Maybe I missed something but I was not aware of any plans to turn this into a real business.

But anyways if being a part of this thing means someone can tell me I can't put a track out that I want to put out then screw it, I'm not getting paid enough to deal with that crap. (because I'm not getting paid at all, this is a hobby LOL)

Businesses provide goods and services to consumers or other entities. A business does not necessarily need to be in it for profit.

The point remains that GSR is being run like a professional label, rather than just a blog where people can post their songs. Thus, being more professional takes more work and more time. Thus, artists may have to wait for their material to be released. Thus, have some patience.

Thus, artists may have to wait for their material to be released. Thus, have some patienceSays who? I didn't sign any sort of contract. What's happened here is that we've gotten away from the fundamental idea, which is that a bunch of people are getting together to help each other get their music out to more people, to the exact opposite, which is that everyone in the group is told not to put any music out at all until further notice. How "professional" is that? It totally defeats the purpose that the group came together for in the first place. Today's "professional labels" aren't a very good model anyway. This is a non-commercial netlabel and ought to be run like a non-commercial netlabel.

electromatic

Here's the thing. We never said, you can't release anything without our permission. Not everything you make would be under this label. When you send an album, EP, etc to be released, it will be released under the date it's set to. That gives me and the label time to put the release together on the site and have it released properly as it gives the artist and the listener excited and know exactly when the material will be put out.

This is also gives the artist a little taste as to what being on a regular, money-making, label feels like. Unfortunately, we aren't able to work on the label 24/7 because we have other commitments as well. One for me right now is preparing to leave for college and things like that.

We are doing the best we can to make sure that the artist puts their heart and soul to each album they create and we would only interfere in the release process.

I hope this has cleared some things up. :)

Just tell them to get a Google account - that's not unreasonable and it takes just a few minutes. But using a single password that we spread around to all the artists would be stupid, it's just asking for the account to be hacked or vandalized if any one person gets mad for some reason. On the other hand, if you merely add authors, you can also delete them later if they start abusing the privilege.

So any one person could totally take over at any time and lock everybody else out without their consent.

Doing it that way is like driving into the worst neighborhood for several hundred miles around, getting out of your car and leaving it running with the keys in the ignition and the driver's side door wide open with several cases of alcoholic beverages and cigarettes clearly visible in the back seat while you walk several blocks away to get a coffee. Dark DJ: I got the links. I'll put them in as soon as I can. Just to let you know, all releases for each artist are in alphabetical order.

I would prefer at least in the artwork, because the liner notes you write are really top notch and deserved to be in the booklet. You can also put it in a text file as well.

Guess I'll email you electromatic. Right now I am working on the Daft Wash music video and it's mostly done, it's awesome. Same technique as 5tuck in the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem but still awesome. :) I'm gonna want to set a release date for this project ASAP so I can put it as a teaser at the end of the video. This is the kind of thing that I think could or at least ought to go totally viral

The cover art and the release date are top priority for me. The booklet, inside art, back art and disc art can be made after, but I really wanna get that cover and release date so I can release the Daft Wash video and I might have more videos too.

(later edit) Just finished a second video, it's exporting now. Been working like crazy on it this week. I really want to have this thing out before school starts so people will tell their friends and stuff

We put together plenty of ideas and are going to try to expand the label even further as much as we can the next year. Also, Dark DJ will be helping us get many new artists from the UK and other places in Europe!

I really wanna thank Electromatic for all his help getting the artwork together for "Live at the Tupperware Party." I kept sending back little tweaks he had to make which made me feel like I was being really ungrateful but we both shared the goal of making it the best possible and he really did a great job. Should be out on September 19th, which is International Talk Like a Pirate Day! (or the next day at the very very latest)

I'm about halfway done with a Daft Punk remix album that I'm hoping should be done probably sometime around the end of the year or the beginning of next year which will have the Pink Floyd vs Alive 2007 cover I've been showing off for like a year now. Just today I downloaded a bunch of old bootleg Daft Punk live sets from this guy (http://daftchurro.blogspot.com/) looking for obscure little sound samples cause I want this thing to be meaningful to the really hardcore Daft Punk fans. It's not just mashups like I've been doing alot but has several original remixes just featuring my take on Daft Punk but I've also got mashups with Styx, the Black Eyed Peas, Linkin Park (as usual - can't ever seem to get completely away from them) and I'm also looking at getting Zombie Nation, the Electric Light Orchestra, DC Talk, Moby and Jonathan Coulton on there.

My ipod seems to always be full nowadays but I really need to listen to everybody's stuff who's on this label and post reviews. I think it would be good to have everybody involved with this thing collab more. Maybe put out an all-star Get Some! Records compilation once a year, with at least one track from as many artists on the label as possible, possibly megamixed Daft Punk style so that the beat never stops?? Just throwing out ideas

Somebody really needs to figure out why our PageRank sucks so bad. Googling for "Get Some Records" brings up this thread, not our web site.

Well, some lightning just struck and I'm now thinking of a replacement title for the compilation project of "Dozens, Nay Severals of DJ Nerd42 Fans Can't Be Wrong" spoofing the box sets "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong" and "100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong." I believe we need to get rid of the No-Derivs option in our CC liscenses and encourage rather than disallow follow-on creativity. I wasn't really paying attention to what liscensing scheme the label was using until now as it doesn't really need one, but if we're gonna have one, it shouldn't include No-Derivs. For a mashup artist like me, that is totally hypocritical
