So recent events have shown people have been taking my sprites and putting them on MySpace, GaiaOnline, etc. without my permission, and it has really gotten on my last nerve. Curt suggests I add a copyright notice below all of them, though I really wish I didn't have to do such a thing. What do you guys think? Should I plant a giant Copyright stamp on top of my creations or just take care of business when people use them without my permission? Also, thank you for the people who were nice enough to PM me asking for permission to use them. I appreciate that.

Yeah. Like have a Copyrighted preview or something. But then what if people take them from the people who asked me? -_-;

I sort of feel like I should just take them down and never let them see the public light of day again. -_- Keep them to myself. But I don't want to selfish, I just don't want people taking them.

It really sucks that people do that. I agree on Dark_DJ's plan though. There will always be stealer, no matter what, and if you want to be 100% sure that no one takes them, then it's better to never show them in public.

i would say... anyone using them.... go to their house and poke them... with a very sharp stick....
lol srsly though, it would be a shame if you had to put a big copyright thingy on them.. they're lovely...

Either put a small copyright notice on the bottom (a little symbol or something like that would do) or take them down completely, it really is a tough decision, and unfortunate you have to make it, but best of luck, and hopefully things'll turn out better.

I don't think you should put a copyright or anything. I'm sorry to say that once an image gets onto the web, it is there forever. Of course, you yourself can take it down, but 9 times out of 10 someone has downloaded that image and put it up somewhere else. That's just how the internet works. Annoying yes, but it happens to everyone.
I feel for you though :(

You should have like a small copyright thing somewhere. Another choice would to just pm people that might take interest in them. But for my opinion make a copyright simbol a last resort meaning, if people still keep taking your sprites then yeah put a copyright on them.
EDIT: you know what i don't think anything i said makes sense.

I've kind of considered letting it be and if I see them I can go,"Haha, I made that :) Glad people like it."

That is what I do with my flash animations and photoshops. :)

well im glad youre taking a lighter view on it. i for one, adore your little sprites and think it would really be a shame if you would have to hide them from the world. but if you really want people to stop taking them, i fear that may be the best option. (this has happened to me before, with something else, so i have experience with this)....i really think it might be the only way to either stop this or keep it from happening.

This is actually a "big problem" for everyone.
Not that I actually care, but its the same with like your avatar, that movie is copyrighted, your signatures picture are copyrighted, and so on.
And where talking about the internet :P its not a safe world you know :P specially when it comes to copyright.
Im not saying that you shouldn't do anything, but you cant say that "we" can't use them like in our blogs pr whatever, but "we" cant say that they are ours or on any way use them to make profit.
Like, I have the right to post one of your sprites lets say on my blog, but I should wright who made it, and I should not be able to make profit on it.
I hope you understand what Im trying to say, and Im not saying that Im using your sprites on different sites, and if I would, I would have wright that you made them!

most of what i was going to say has been said already.
but i think it's awesome that you're not all pissy about it like some other internetians can get. (especially considering that since your sprites are technically fanart, and the "copyrights" don't exactly belong to you. fanart falls under the parody/fair use/something category, iirc.)
anyway, it's been a relatively recent discovery of mine, but pretty much no matter what you do or where you show it/put it out, once you make your art public, it no longer fully "belongs" to you. because just in the fact of other people looking at your work, it's going to change some things about how people (yourself included) think about it.
that musing aside, i'd say don't take them down. they're already out there anyway, so they're just going to keep floating about. i would suggest putting some identifying marks on them if you want to make it harder for other people to claim them as their own work (my identifying mark, is a little pink, pixel "p" in the lower right hand corner area of my sprites).
i think a lot of people don't really count sprites as "art" because they're smaller, and just kind of... i don't really know, not the same thing as a painting for example. (then again, i think a lot of digital art and fanart falls into this category.) anyway, sprites are more likely to be saved and passed on since people don't think about the artist as much as the characters that are depicted, which is why having little markers on sprite bases (and requiring that sprites created with a premade base credit the original pixeler) and such is such a big deal in the sprite/dolling community.
uhm. anyway... that was quite long. basically. your sprites are good, a lot of people are idiots when it comes to art on the internet (and a lot of artists are overly sensitive about stuff). you should keep sharing your work, but probably consider "signing" it from here on out.

my opinion: copyright.
Hah. That reminds me of something. |D
I'd go for the copyright. That's what I did, tho. I don't think talking with the people directly is a good way to try to solve the problem, since there are a lot of disrespectful, stupid persons who don't give a damn about giving credits. Yea, as Piroteki says, you're better be signing your sprites, they're good stuff. C: I wouldn't want people to steal them D: !

i would have to say put a copyright stamp on them. It sucks i know but
it would be the only way to show them without stealing

Aww it sucks that people have been stealing those cute widdle pwushies.
But yeah... If it continues, I'd slap a little copyright symbol in the corner. And then I'd flame the thieving bastards till they cant take it no more and spray their brains all over the walls. Then you can kidnap their parents and chop bits of them off and...
Oh sorry about that. My evil inner self got out for a second there...

My evil inner self is the funny part of me. If it wasnt for him, I'd be a faceless, neutral, brainless, grey zombie eating grey sludge.

Do it but not a giant copyright stamp. Put a small but visible copyright stamp. :)
