What does Veridis Quo mean? I can figure out Musique, not that hard. Voyager could be either a French verb or an English noun, but I have no Idea what Veridis Quo means. Anyone?

i dont think its french. its probably latin- because to me it would make sense that veridis means 'truth' --makes sense following the interstella plot i mean. so then quo... hmm. i dont know.

there has already been a discussion on this and one of the conclusions is that if you at dis in Veridis Quo then you will get

dis Quo veri

digital*aria

but then what does dis Quo veri mean? discovery? hmm... i guess that could sort of work. but some part of me doubts that they called it that for this purpose.

--wow, i have absolutely no life. i got my 3rd record like what, 2 or 3 days ago? and now my 4th...

i remember reading in 2001 an article in q magasine on discovery where the critic writing claimed that daft punk had decided on discovery as an album title for two reasons-one is the reason found on wikipedia (childhood etc.) and the other is was that the duo think the album is "very disco" in style.

Veri disQuo

not that much of a leap of faith but im not convinced daft actually said that...

Its not french but i think it only a ''word game'' srry i didnt know how to translate it, i speak french..

Veridis Quo = dis quo veri

like The doors did in 1971, in the song L.A Woman jim morrision sang ''Mr Mojo Risin'', its just the Jim Morrison letters putted in another order to create that expression

Cause in french the letter i arent prononced like in english, the i sound the same as you prononce the e in english, so for us dis quo veri sound the same :)

My 2 cents

Veridis Quo is latin. It means 'Truth Telling".

Also a little pun:

Veridis Quo = Veri disquo = Very Disco

Flip it to Dis quo veri = Discovery

essentially yes it does but if you translate it literally it says truth telling from.requires a less literal translation to make sense.

Veridis Quo is Latin. But it also means "to find the truth" and i think that is kinda discovery. :)

I never knew this. Very cool the way they use a play on words like that.

I just realized that when Veridis Quo plays in 5555, it's at the time when the Crescendolls 'discover' why they were kidnapped and brought to Earth, by reading the book that says Veridis Quo on the cover... ROFLMAO, that's awesome. XD

Nice.

I never really understood what the guy in the movie is doing with all the gold records and I also never understood the whole 5555 thing. (sorry if this was asked before.)

What I understood from it is that Darkwood (or whatever his name was) had this plan of ruling the world by collecting 5555 golden records, obtained via promoting the artists who had musical talent beyond humanity's capabilities, and winning them at award shows. I'm also guessing that the golden record he won with the Crescendolls was the 5555th, meaning his plan was near completion, but of course, his plans were foiled in the end.

Oh okay. I didn't really get the whole 5555 thing either.
But then that brings up the question:
Why the heck would you WANT 5555 gold records anyways?

Erm... never mind. Silly question. Without the Darkwood guy's evil scheme (even if it does seem pointless), there wouldn't be a movie. I think I'm starting to over analyze. =P

Matsumoto-sensei uses numbers in some of his titles (such as Galaxy Express 999), so the duo are continuing the tradition.

Sorry, but according to Thomas, that's incorrect. Read this.

Correct, but I think he meant how it corresponded plot-wise. My guess in that respect is that the 5555 gold records acted as a form of conductor. They show throughout the Veridis Quo diary that some sort of meteor landed during De Darkwood's childhood, the touch of which turned him evil and made him immortal, seeking only for the full form of the power locked within said meteorite. So he kept it hidden within his home. Every time one of his kidnapped alien artists won a gold record, it would go up on that wall and he would push said artist into the pit below, thus gradually creating both the tool with which he could unlock the power of the meteorite and the energy needed to do it (which came from his slain artists). With the 5555th record, all he needed to release the energy of the meteor was Stella.

And upon your second answer, Aero, I don't think niKa was being literal, but rather joking about a previous post.
But with my odds, I'm totally wrong and this whole post makes me look like a pompous know-it-all.

Woah. I obviously wasn't paying attention very well during that part in Interstella, because hardly any of that ever crossed my mind. About the meteorite thing and Darkwood being immortal, I mean. I think I'm gonna watch it again, at least the Veridis Quo part, and pay really close attention...

and btw, imma girl :O

Well done with the explanation there Champiness! Makes me realize how I also wasn't paying that much attention in that part of the movie, the fact that I haven't seen the movie in the last 2 years or so may also play a role in this, but regardless, well done! :)

Wow... I thought you'd all take up arms and barrage me with facts to prove I was wrong.
I'm glad I could help!
And yeah, Boba, they make some references to artists with mysterious deaths in that same diary sequence. They're showing what the world believes happened to their one-hit wonders (i.e., alcohol, depression), when they were actually used to help De Darkwood power his generator.

I wish. Unfortunately, nobody would go to the trouble of kidnapping Alien Kanye and altering his memory for the level of talent they'd get out of him. He's human.
