Not Really A Bug, But...7th Apr 2009, 17:42 #1
Has the rule always been that signatures can only be five lines long? It keeps me from fitting perfectly normal-sized quotes into my sig and eats up any room needed for things like images.

No, it's a new feature - designed to stop people having massive sigs.

There's a character limit too. This way both angles are covered to prevent spamming and sigs that go on for far too long making threads a nightmare to read.

I understand - sprawling signatures are annoying. But a number of multi-character or multi-line sigs are that way due to some sort of HTML applied to the text - i.e. quotes or colorful dialogue. My current quote isn't like this thankfully, but with something a bit longer the HTML might ruin it.

i was looking at the options for this, and it does seem like there might be some way to ignore bbcode markup. (which i agree, whenever i've been on a forum with character-limited signatures, the bbcode is what gets me all the time.)
what i've found to be helpful in keeping under limit, but still letting you have the pictures and links you like, you can try using a url-shortening site/service. there are a lot of sites like this like tinyurl and some others.
