I need help with my computer (please read!)
19th Apr 2009, 19:35 #1I couldn't find a thread on this kind of topic and as soon as it's resolved feel free to lock it.
Most of my removable disc drives on my computer have stopped working and so now I can't get pictures off my camera and all my other SD cards are worthless now too. Now to get pictures off my camera, I have to put my SD card in my lap top, then put the pictures onto a Flashdrive, then put the Flashdrive in my computer. This can get really annoying especially when my Laptop isn't charged and when I have to give it back to the school at the end of the year.
Before, the drives were always shown in My Computer, but now they don't show even when the card is plugged into the computer.
If anyone can help, it'd be greatly appreciated! My SD card drive is my G: drive and I run on Windows XP Professional.

19th Apr 2009, 20:28 #4it's more of a workaround than a solution, but you could buy a USB card reader, since your USB ports haven't been giving you issues...
i really don't know, but i know i've read (and had personal experience!) that issues with USB ports indicate a problem with the motherboard, but since your issue is the SD ports and not the USB ones, i'm not sure if that's the case...
have you tried to call tech support of your computer's manufacturer? (that might only be of limited help, depending on which manufacturer and whether you still have your waranty/etc, though...) similarly, they might have some troubleshooting on their website (i know Apple does, but i'm not sure how common/thorough it is for other manufacturers...) and you could give the built-in Windows troubleshooter a go--if you haven't already--but i wouldn't expect too much... it never seemed to be terribly helpful for half of the things i tried when i was still using Windows...
good luck!

20th Apr 2009, 17:40 #5re-install all drivers
do everything you see online and can think of
re-format if all else fails.
if that doesnt work, buy new comp parts (moboard) or whole new comp.

20th Apr 2009, 18:29 #6Unfortuneatly I don't know how to fix a card reader, but for desktop PC's they can varry in price from $20 and up.
If you don't want to replace it, like Piroteki said, there is mini card readers you can get that simply go from one form (such as SD) to USB.
Or.. lol get a computer hook up cable for your camera?
Thats all I know really..
Sorry. Best of luck with the situation.
