resin on daft punk helmets

i managed to acquire to types of resin from my dads work and tryed them both on half of one of my pepakura helmets as a test. Anyway after being left over night its seems to of done nothing and the the helmet is no further, so all i want to know is if resin is necessary to harden the card before using bondo, or could i just bondo it straight away. If i need to use resin could you suggest what type i need to use it would be helpful thanks
