I need a link to good Guy tutorial please, and all the files.
7th Jan 2011, 04:59 #1First thing is first, I'm sorry if I posted in the wrong thread.
I haven't been on here in literally an entire year, But recently my love for Daft Punk has come running back and I want to build a Guy helmet badly. I don't care how much time, or money it will take I'll do it slowly if I have to buy loads of pieces. Can someone please help me to the base files of his helmet? prefferably not Peprika files (Spelt right?) but if there the only files going then I will do them.
If there are any great tutorials with step by step it would be amazing, I've seen Volpins helmet and I literally was like "I WANT IT" instantly. I know he's put alot of hard work into that and it's turned out really well. I don't care if my helmet will take 17 months or even 3 years, as long as its sturdy, greatly smoothed, no lumps or bends I will be insanely happy.
So please help me

7th Jan 2011, 07:03 #2You answered your own question: Follow Volpin's method.
No one else has written up his process in as much detail. The good pep files that DID exist are no longer available, so go with Volpin's method, just take your time and it will turn out well.

7th Jan 2011, 15:58 #3i haven't followed Volpin's documentation very carefully, but it's quite obvious to me that he is a skilled craftsman and addition to his skill, has access to tools and supplies that are otherwise very likely to be hard to find or too expensive for a beginner. i don't know if I would blindly recommend following his process simply because it's just not going to turn out that well for someone who's just starting. you could try to follow his approach, but I would suggest that you don't expect a perfect helmet the first go round. Volpin seems to have been in the practice of replicating/making props for a while and has skills/practical knowledge new propmakers won't have, so the final product will likely be vastly different. not trying to say any helmet that's not Volpin's will be crap, just don't expect a perfect replica simply by following Volpin's method.

10th Jan 2011, 11:58 #4That can be said of any method. With a project like this, it will ultimately come down to your skills and passion for the project. So, I say START! Even if it's not perfect, you'll learn a lot, and then can begin on a second, even better version. You'll learn good theory by reading write-ups, but the only way you'll actually learn how to make a helmet is to just go for it. You'll screw up, but that's all part of the process, and at the end, it will mean that much more to you.
So use Volpin's guide as a roadmap (And look to his current Thomas build as well for further inspiration too) but then, forget the details, and just start working.
Good luck.
