Tron Legacy sequel: Will Daft Punk score it?
13th Jan 2011, 22:42 #1With the third installment of the Tron franchise seemingly moments away from being greenlit, the next question in our minds surely is "Will Daft Punk score it?"
Considering the soundtrack was one of the better received aspects of the film by critics and fans alike, surely DP will be asked to do the soundtrack for the next film, if they haven't already.
But in recent interviews Thomas and Guy-Man have said they are planning on working on new Daft Punk projects next in their careers. Daft Punk have shown they rarely do the same thing twice, so would they even have any interest in devoting another 3 years of their lives to another soundtrack?

13th Jan 2011, 23:56 #5It's not a very Daft Punk thing to do, doing something twice that is. I think the soundtrack wouldn't be as hyped up as this one has been.

Re: Tron Legacy sequel: Will Daft Punk score it?
14th Jan 2011, 00:08 #6I think that they wouldn't do it again, but I guess the third one will feel "empty" without them, so I'd want them to do it again.
OR, they could get some other incredible electronic musicians to do it.

Re: Tron Legacy sequel: Will Daft Punk score it?
14th Jan 2011, 01:19 #8It would be cool if they did the soundtrack for the third movie... But as you say, it's not like them to do something twice. However, we never foresaw them doing a soundtrack like this in the first place so who knows.
Pros:
There would still be room for trying new things and improving their score skills even further, it's not like they have done everything in the world of scores now. Since this is a new world for them it would be interesting to go further.
Also, a second Tron score wouldn't take 2 years. They don't have to start from scratch since they've already gotten started in the world of scores now, and since it's a sequel they can reuse many of the themes and musical ideas. It would probably take less than a year.
Cons:
They don't like to repeat themselves, and they might feel a bit like they're selling out if they suddenly do multiple scores for blockbuster movies.
But we all know that they are the kind of people that do what they feel like doing without caring too much about what other people think they should or should not do, so I guess it all comes down to if they think they would enjoy making more Tron music when the time comes.
Re: Tron Legacy sequel: Will Daft Punk score it?
14th Jan 2011, 02:23 #9I don't think they will do the soundtrack for the sequel. T-Bang revealed it was alot work doing the soundtrack especially when they aren't making dance music. It would take two maybe three years to make a new soundtrack; they wouldn't be able to make their own kind of music leading to no touring anytime soon.
