Other than vac-forming a lens, what do you guys/gals use to make lenses? That is the last bit in finishing my thomas helmet.

Thomas' "lens" is a lot easier to replicate than Guy-Man's, and it can really be as simple or as fancy as you want. On my nicer Thomas helmet I had a friend cut and curve a sheet of smoked acrylic plastic, which I would say has the best result. On the cheaper/easier DIY route in the past I have bought some window tint film and stuck it onto some clear plastic from soda bottles. Not the best result, but gets the job done.

    Hope that helps.

What Ray said lol, I used a sheet of PETG plastic, cut it and put LIMO tint on it, ended up costing me about $10 too, not too bad

Does anybody else's helmet get overly hot? I mean I wear mine for five minutes and the lens is fogging up. What do people do for preventing this? Just thinking out loud here, has anyone considered using nylon stretched over a wire frame? That way, you wont have to worry about fogging, and since its breathable, you can stay cooler. Anyone try something like that with good results?

Where did you locate the fans? At the back?

A member on here who goes by the name Daguru has used mesh in the past. I believe he used it not only for "breathe-ability" but so he could see better in the dark at concerts. While I'm sure it did work, as you can see in this photo of him a real disadvantage is that your face is slightly visible through the mesh.

If you were going to use mesh, you'd probably have to go as far as to wear a "ninja mask" type hood under the helmet, and paint around your eyes black.

IMO the perks of using mesh do not out weigh how it looks. I myself would rather use a "lens" or visor and install fans like TB suggested. That, and also training yourself to breathe out your mouth might help, too.

Re: What do people use for making helmet lenses?

what i did was go to westlakes, bought a piece of plexiglass, cut it to shape, then put it in the oven at about 275 F for 5 minutes, then took it out and formed it around the piece of the helmet that i cut out. then used a light layer of spray tint
