Re: So What Are You Afraid Of?
12th Jun 2012, 23:16 #83I have an irrational fear of losing things. For some reason I subconsciously treat the inanimate objects I own as living things with emotions and feeling. So when I lose something I can't help but treating the situation as though a child is lonely and afraid, lost somewhere out there in this huge, huge world and at risk of starvation unless I find it soon. So I stay up for hours looking for things I've misplaced (otherwise I can't sleep). After a while I start to get worried and feel physically sick.
I think that fear developed when I lost stuff almost on a daily basis because my best friend - who came round my house nearly every day for 6 years - had been stealing stuff behind my back the whole time.
Another fear I have is sudden death. Not death itself but the fear that I could die in an instant, unable to say "goodbye" to my family, for example. I normally get that feeling when I'm standing beneath tall buildings that don't look well-supported, although strangely not when I'm IN them.

16th Jun 2012, 12:31 #84I´m terrified of needles and that has forced me to bail out of a medical examination more that once.

Re: So What Are You Afraid Of?
16th Jun 2012, 20:40 #87My family doctor decided to give me all 4 of my college vaccinations and draw blood in one go, and wouldn't you know it, I was allergic to one of the shots and had a seizure. Not fun. I get shaky around needles now, but they don't scare me too badly.

Re: So What Are You Afraid Of?
17th Jun 2012, 21:35 #88My arm got infected by a dodgy injection once. It ached for weeks and there was a large red patch down most of my arm. It's no wonder so many people are afraid of needles!

Re: So What Are You Afraid Of?
3rd Sep 2012, 11:11 #89So I have a terrible fear of death. Lately I've been getting into a deep thoughts of it, that it's gonna hit me one day. That I'll just turn off, and that's it. I believe in heaven and I'm still scared of it. So these little freak-outs have been hitting me, a couple of days ago I had one in my Biology class and literally shook in my seat.
The thing that makes this worse is the fact that I've found a growth inside me. Upon further research I found it could be some sort of blood clot, a cyst, or worse a tumor. The area where it's at is likely to get tumors that may sometimes be cancerous.
I know I'm jumping to conclusions, but that's still a possibility and it's pretty scary. I'm getting checked on Tuesday, and we'll go on from there.WingmanI know you're somewhere out there. Somewhere far away...And if we're taking bets on the album release date: March 21, 2013.

Re: So What Are You Afraid Of?
3rd Sep 2012, 12:52 #90I used to have a terrible fear of death when I was younger but I got over it when I was about eight. You've just got to teach yourself to be a positive thinker and remind yourself that you've got years and years ahead of you until you die and by then you'll have already lived your life so it won't even matter. I've heard hypnosis is good for treating fears. Have you considered it? It might help

It might also be good to note that most tumours are treatable early on; so even if it is a worst case scenario you've probably got nothing to worry about.
I've found out lately that I have a fear of very tall buildings that don't appear to have stable foundations. Like I'd see a building and think "if all the people inside that thing leant against one side of the building it'd fall over". This fear response also seems to apply to submarines and large cargo/cruise ships although I don't quite understand why. I just feel nervous whenever I'm near any of those things and the closer I get the more anxious I get. Oddly enough, I feel calm when I'm inside.
