It was originally intended to be a short film. There is a review (or even possibly interview with DP - I'm relying on memory here) somewhere online that states that it was originally intended to be the music video to Human After All (the track) and it got bigger until it became a proect in its own right. I'm sure if you google hard enough you will find the article

Well, I'm glad it did. Honestly, I haven't expressed so much emotion while watching a film as I did watching Electroma. Except maybe with Toy Story 3

I'm pretty sure DP wanted to go with the "2001 Odyssey" style, but with the plot they had in mind was too cliché imo. The film could have had the same impact with 30 minutes cut out.

I really don't see it tbh. Maybe some of the walking? but that doesn't make up half an hour

It would have had FAR less emotion and meaning if they'd spoken, at all. Using their own music would have made it cheesy as ****, therefore taking away meaning.

Also.... ****ing spoilers. Some members may not have seen it (I'm editing that part our of the original post btw) And thats half the ****ing storyline.

I just think that the each individual scene is a little too long for the message their trying to express. 30 minutes may be too much, 20 minutes maybe.

Re: Daft Punk could've done better on Electroma

To be honest, I think if it had been the Human After All video it would be hailed as a classic instead of the lukewarm-to-negative response it got from film critics. People have certain expectations going into a music video than a feature-length film, and I think that Electroma's plot better meets the standards of the former. I'm not saying the numbing sense of alienation in Electroma was a bad thing, but just think about how much stronger the emotional impact would be if all the key scenes were there, minus the long spaces between them, and all set to Human After All. It would have been amazing.
