Re: Daft Punk could've done better on Electroma
8th May 2012, 06:40 #51I actually liked the long segments...they were interesting in a minimal sort of way...I also thought they were *essential* in getting across the emotion in the movie. If those parts would have been cut out, the movie (particularly with its characters) would have had to be completely reworked less the whole film lose its impact.
That being said, I also love staring at Monet paintings, so what do I know?

8th May 2012, 07:37 #52Yeah, this is what I think about the long segments. If it was really fast (or you know, all in 5 minutes like it was going to be for the human after all music video which it originally was) it would have been more comedic and less serious. Having said that the whole movie cut together really fast to HAA would be awesome..I might do that.

25th May 2012, 16:01 #54I agree, because the long parts sort of connected you immediately to the characters.
Yes, those walking parts are long and frustrating.
But our Hero Robots feel like they've had a long and frustrating day and/or life!
It's an interesting device filmmakers don't use often- probably because it's extremely hit or miss- but when done well, the results can be incredible.
Side note: I <3 Monet!

10th Jun 2012, 09:12 #56HAA goes insanely well over the top of most of the scenes, and I know everyone says it was made to be played against the film, but having said that I agree with donatello, I think they wanted to keep it seperate. Electroma wasn't to show us they could make an hour-long film clip like they did with Interstella 5555, I think they wanted to show that they could get an emotional response from an audience without having to use their music.
Like N-5pade said, it's kind of hit and miss but in my opinion they hit. Besides, it's an Art film. From memory they release it at the Cannes film festival. It's not meant to be a rollicking movie, it's meant to be a peice of art that uses pictures and symbolism and that lovely minimalist style that Daft Punk do so well.
...and on Monet, I went to an art gallery exhibition and his stuff is unreal. Like, wow. Who knew three lines could look so much like a face..Last edited by SeizureFox51; 10th Jun 2012 at 09:15.

6th Aug 2012, 02:43 #59I came back from that movie a broken, and distracted man.
Basically I didn't get it. But it haz Daft Punk (or people who look like them) in it, so I watch it over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and over again until I get it.
