Re: What do you want from the Daft Club?
23rd Dec 2011, 10:09 #41this, pretty much. if we think that a thread will have only a small handful of replies, it's more appropriate to be a single post in the Talk about Anything thread, instead of having many many short, one-page threads floating around the lounge.
edit: it's worth noting that it also works the other way around. if in a thread like the Talk about Anything thread, people start talking about one subject for an extended period of time, we usually suggest that another thread be made, dedicated purely to that subject.

Re: What do you want from the Daft Club?
24th Dec 2011, 07:27 #42@spud, just a couple of things that could potentially make the website a more joyful experience.
1. It would be nice to see who gave you rep, so you could thank them or at least get some satisfaction of knowing who appreciated your comment.
2. There doesn't really seem to be much moderation in the "Fan Made" section. I would love to see some of the threads sticky'd like tutorials (tips and tricks for helmets, the glove thread) and the bazaar thread (so we don't have a million "I'm selling this" threads)
[Particularly I'd like to either start/continue a thread where people can go to find out who builds casts, does commissions, or electronics and what they need to know before posting their own "I'm looking for..." type threads. We could have a list of builders (where they can add/remove themselves from the lists) and different links to shops that sell specific parts that could help with the building process.]
I think this could clean up the section into a nice neat pile of information for our members and make it super easy to navigate through. I'd like to nominate myself for moderator status (at least on that section) to clean it up and work on this project. If you don't feel like giving it to me or would rather remove that status after it's completed that's fine with me, but I would just like to see this get done. I know this is kinda long, but thank you for taking the time to read it.Last edited by Alexiares; 24th Dec 2011 at 07:37.

Re: What do you want from the Daft Club?
30th Dec 2011, 07:56 #45hey, Alexiares, i've been meaning to write a reply to this, but kept getting distracted. oops!
anyway, i don't think you sounded like you were complaining at all. of course we need to hear feedback from users about what they like about the site and what could be improved, and i think the way that you offered suggestions was perfectly fine.
getting to your points:
1. there's actually a reason we haven't elected to make rep visible to users. we're not trying to hold some secret over your head, but it does make some things easier if you don't know who you gave rep. while it's a nice thought to thank someone for giving you rep, we don't want the system to turn into a popularity contest, where people are giving each other rep simply as thanks. similarly, we don't want to see users retaliating for bad rep, giving bad rep in return for bad rep. the system is designed to reward users for the content they're posting, so not knowing who gave you rep helps keep the focus on rewarding good posts, rather than focusing on who is the best/coolest/etc user. that being said, though, some people do "sign" their rep comments, so sometimes you might know who left you rep anyway.
2. yeah i've thought about Fan-made from time to time. unfortunately a lot of us on the mod team tend to be busy irl, and none of us have a hugely personal investment in Fan-made, so regrettably it often gets overlooked. and it shouldn't, so we'll try to do a better job of making it to all forums equally.
with stickied threads, all users are more than welcome to PM a mod and suggest "hey i think this thread should be stickied" and while i can't guarantee that it will be, we'll definitely consider it.
you are more than welcome to start the thread you discussed, it is essentially your [the collective users] forum, so you should feel free to make contributions like that even without getting mod approval. (we'll tell you if it's a problem anyway. lol)
please don't forget that all users can help us in cleaning up the forum by using the report tool (
) to alert us of threads we might miss. it's most obviously used for threads that are spambots or otherwise obviously breaking the rules, but please use it also to alert us of threads that are duplicates/should be merged, or otherwise require some sort of cleanup.
you guys have a lot of power and responsibility in thedaftclub community, the mods just have the ability to enact certain things. maybe it's cliche but we're really supposed to be "servants" to the community as a whole, rather than dictators on high, so don't ever be shy to let us know what we can do to make the club better/cleaner/easier to use.

Re: What do you want from the Daft Club?
5th Apr 2012, 12:04 #46I think I posted this some time ago, tho i just want to fresh it up again. I really like the chat-feature we got. The only Problem about it is, that nobody really uses it. Maybe it could help to embed the Tinychat into the website (as far as i know that could be possible?). If you are afraid of guest or spammers, we could only let users to connect to the chat if they got a fixed number of digital love points or something (so that guys like "Matty" dont spam the whole chat with crap). Its just an idea, no critizism. I am very very satisfied with this forum, but that nobody uses a great feature like the chat is a bit sad, isnt it?
EDIT: Sorry i forgot that you just replyd my last post about this. Anyway, are there news about that topic?

Re: What do you want from the Daft Club?
29th Apr 2012, 05:38 #48I have noticed recently, although i'm sure it's been going on for a long long time, that new members will come here, make a thread about their music and never return, or at most post once or twice more in that thread. This just creates clutter in the 'your music' section. A solution to this which i have seen on other forums is to have a limit on who can create a thread in that section. For example, it could be a requirement that you need to have been registered for 2 weeks before creating the thread. Or even better, a post limit, say, 50 posts, before being allowed to post a thread there. Thoghts?

Re: What do you want from the Daft Club?
29th Apr 2012, 23:40 #49I don't really think it has that much of a negative impact - if people respond to it positively, they might stick around, and if it gets ignored, they leave and the thread gets quickly buried. Besides, being exposed to new music is never a bad thing!
