Daft Punk Guy Manuel helmet in the works
17th Oct 2011, 05:59 #1I want to preface all this by saying that I did not make this cast, but if you haven't been living under a rock recently, then you will know right away where this cast came from.

Yup, I got my hands on one of Harrison's (Volpin) Guy Manuel casts.
And the candid shot of me wearing a helmet that is too big for me

See, even Guy Manuel can do finance homework!

So I'll be starting work here pretty soon. I foresee a lot of cutting, bondo-ing, and sanding in my near future.
Updates to follow as they are done.

17th Oct 2011, 16:47 #3I think perhaps one of my helmets would fit you much better. Dont you already have some other helms though? What is your height? Those shots makes Harrison's helmet look humongous.

17th Oct 2011, 17:45 #4Honestly dude, you need a sporgo cast. This thing is too big for you. You should be at minimum 6' tall and have broad shoulders to wear this thing...
Re: Daft Punk Guy Manuel helmet in the works
17th Oct 2011, 17:48 #5I'm 5'9", which is the same height as Harrison. The reason it looks so big on my shoulders is that there was no padding inside of it to make it sit correctly on my head. I think once I get everything into the helmet, padding and such, it will sit more correctly on my head. Here's a shot of Harrison wearing the helmet, and it looks pretty normal for him.

17th Oct 2011, 18:04 #6Harrison has said that the helmet is too big for him as well bud. I love the helmet and if I hadn't made my own, this would have been the one I'd go with. But this helmet was scaled for a much taller dude. But to each their own. Good luck on this project!!!

18th Oct 2011, 00:26 #7No, I completely agree, it is a bit big. It doesn't look overbearing in his photos though. I guess we will see as this project goes along, and if worst comes to worst, and I decide that it really is too big, its not like there isn't a high demand for anything that Volpin has made.

19th Oct 2011, 17:09 #8OOF! Man, that shot makes me want to remake the whole thing!
The helmet size can be visually scaled down a bit by insetting the visor and by taking some material out of the chin as well. I'm actually revisiting this project in the coming months and will be making a more "average" scaled Guy helmet soon.
Hope your project comes out well!

19th Oct 2011, 20:24 #9Harrison, keep me in mind for when you start to build your "more normal" size Guy. I may be in a bit of a tight spot right now in terms of scale and may have to flip your helmet, which I really don't want to do.

Re: Daft Punk Guy Manuel helmet in the works
14th Apr 2012, 08:42 #10yeah, I just received a guy helmet from Artfunk and its a shade to big for me at 5'7 and especially for my wife at 5'2. I'm not sure what I should do with it. I am waiting for LED's from Tekparasite and intend to install them myself.
seems like Sporgo or Beastman's helmets would have been a better bet for me. I might be down to sell mine if I could get another one sometime soonish afterwards, or it would be really cool if someone had a finished helmet w/LED's that was too small for them and wanted to trade. I'm gonna be waiting a little bit for the LED's, and the one part I have to do is make the color gels and fit the LED's to the light chassis. if someone else wants to do this by themselves, I'd be willing to let the helmet go for what I paid, otherwise I'll prob tack on ~$100 or so depending on how much time I end up spending on the LED install. PM me if you're interested.
but yeah, this helmet would be great for someone ~6" tall or so. I can see a little what Teese is saying about setting the helmet away from the shoulders with some padding, but that's only going to do so much.
