RIP Nilesh Patel
21st Dec 2011, 18:28 #1So these may just be rumors (Louis La Roche and a few others have talked about it, but I can't find any news sources mentioning it or any official confirmation), but apparently the great mastering engineer Nilesh Patel has just recently died of a heart attack. This is truly horrible as he was, imho, one of the greatest mastering engineers in the dance scene. This is also pretty relevant to us as he has mastered all three Daft Punk albums - their next album truly won't be the same without him!
Artists he worked with:
Adam Beyer, Agoria, Air, Alabama 3, Alan Braxe, Armand Van Helden, Avril, Audio Bullys, Anander Shanker, Ballroom, Ben Diamond, Bim Sherman, Bjork, Bob Sinclar, Cornershop, Christian Vogel, Daft Punk, Dave Angel, David Arnold, Dave Clarke, David Guetta, Digitalism, Dirty Beatniks, Dj Pierre, Dmitri from Paris, Erasure, Echoboy, Eat Static, Emiliana Torrini, FunDaMental, Femi Kuti, Fridge, F-Communications, Felix Da Housecat, Freeland, Gus Gus, G Flame, Gala, Independance, International Pony, Jay Alansky, Joey Beltram, Junior Sanchez, Junior Jack, Ken Ishii, Laibach, Llama Farmers, Laurent Garnier, Luke Slater, Layo & Bushwacka, Lamb, Long Pigs, Layo and Bushwacka, Medicine 8, Moby, Mr. Oizo and Mr.G, Mirwais, Nabb, Nitin Sawhney, New Young Pony Club, Nick Cave, Orbital, Peaches, Playgroup, Pleasure, Pulp, Pet Shop Boys, Plastikman, Robert Owens, Room 5, Ritchie Hawtin, Roger Sanchez, Sugababes, Sven Vath, Tavin Singh, Texas, Ronnie Jordan, Speedy J, Subliminal Records, Simian, Skunk Anansie, Shakedown, Soulwax, Speedy J, Shape Shifters, Slam, Stardust, Springheel Jack, State of Bengal, The Advent, Thomas Bangalter, The Youngsters, The Micronauts, The Stereophonics, Steve Bicknell, Up Bustle & Out, Umek, Underworld, Unkle, and Yuck.

21st Dec 2011, 18:49 #2I'm pretty sure it's true. Twitter is blowing up over it.
But yes, truly one of the greater audio engineers of our time; May he rest in peace.

21st Dec 2011, 19:04 #3I'm not doubting so much that it's true, but Twitter also blew up over Jon Bon Jovi's "death" so we'll see.
While mastering engineers don't exactly get fame among most people, I still find it odd that no news source has reported on it or even mentioned it...typing in "nilesh patel dead" or "nilesh patel heart attack" or anything similar in Google just brings up everything but him dying...Last edited by scutheotaku; 21st Dec 2011 at 19:06.

21st Dec 2011, 19:45 #5I know this isn't concrete proof, but Soulwax, Ed Banger Records, Chromeo among others have tweeted about it.

"The news of his passing was verified by the The Exchange, the London mastering studio in Camden where Patel worked for over twenty years."

21st Dec 2011, 23:33 #8I didn't know who he was, but a lot of artists seem upset. I even saw DJ falcon saying how he'll miss him... may he rest in peace
