Re: My first attempt attempt at a helmet (In progress [Guy-Manuel])

Out from the grave! I had been really busy between college and my job, but now that school is over I have time to work on my daft punk helmet!!! Yeah So what Ive done so far is fix the visor from a mistake I made and some warpage. To do this, I covered the frame of the helm with blue painters tape and then set the visor on it and put bondo in the cracks and crevices.

I then started working on the chin, and I have finally got it how I want it!

It still has quite a bit of refining, but it more flat on the bottom and round on the top and angles the way I want it too

While working on the chin I found out that bondo sands extremely easily if you sand it while its still curing (more specifically, when its not very tacky and can still be dented easily with a fingernail). It does clog sandpaper up faster, but its so easy to sand that I just used the cheap pack of sandpaper from walmart and a sanding block.

    More (fairly) soon...

Ahh, the so subtle square chin. Good job! First HAA pep I've seen with the accurate chin.....even mine doesn't have that!

Ive probable worked on this chis more than any other part of the helmet... And its devilishly hard to get it right, but I think I have it this time (my 4th attempt at it) I guess we'll see...

Re: My first attempt attempt at a helmet (In progress [Guy-Manuel])

Oh, after I made the new helmet pep I stopped for a bit because it was just so inaccurate. But I decided I dont care all that much as long as it looked good, so I was making a few other props to help hone my skills But at the moment, the frame is almost done, a bit of spot filling and then sanding up to some high grits, and the visor is getting pretty close to that point It definitely looks better than in the last picture...

Im also looking for a way to make better ear cones if anyone has any ideas

Re: My first attempt attempt at a helmet (In progress [Guy-Manuel])

    AN UPDATE!!!

So I absolutely hate this visor... So I started making a new one!

    I made a cardboard base

    filled it with expanding foam

    And carved it a lot!

And as you can see, I accidentally dropped the frame and broke/cracked it in a few places

I still have to carve it so it dosent bulge out so much. But i love it now much more than the original
