I dont care if they play at coachella, but it would be nice to hear some new material, or even news about new material.

While everyone else is releasing work, these guys are taking their sweet a$$ time, and I know it is worth the wait, however, I am angry at their decline of a great opportunity at Coachella.

    WTF
really angry that they declined? WHy the...? What the...?
THEY HAVE NO NEW STUDIO STUFF! A TOUR LIKE Alive 2007 DOESN'T JUST POP OUT OF THEIR ASS!
A good show like Alive 2006 takes a LONG time and a lot of effort to get together. Especially since they haven't released any new studio stuff since their last tour, why do people keep expecting them to announce a new tour and getting pissy when they don't accept a offer that makes no sense for them to accept, personally, artistically, musically ect. ect.
    WAIT until next album.
    Key word being 'WAIT'
Because it seems that a lot of 'fans' have forgotten that waiting is what being a Daft Punk fan is all about.

I agree, id love for them to tour now(WE ALL DO), but it wouldn't make sense, id rather wait maybe 2-4 years. Im hoping that they release a new album, this year THEN MAYBE that can start work on a tour.

Re: Daft punk will NOT play at Coachella this year. :(

I think it was Guy-Manuel who said they only produce songs and other various projects if they're feeling inspired and have time. If they feel like they have nothing to bring to the table, they will simply not begin anything. He also said there were many other factors that played a part in their activity to the industry. He said he knows what Thomas likes, and what he doesn't. And vice-versa.

And I like that about them. Why do anything if you're not in the mood and are only going to half ass it? Would you rather have a song or album that isn't great, or a song/album that had a lot of time and effort put into it?

Something WILL happen this year people. I strongly believe that. Whether it be a song or an album. Or even a surprise appearance somewhere. I know you're tired of hearing this, but just give it time.

Don't get me wrong its which is one of the reasons I love them, but at times it's quite annoying. I don't really care about Coachella (as someone who frequents the festival, I would never expect them on the bill), I care that it's been a damn long time since they've been active making/performing studio music. And while Daft Punk doesn't owe their fans anything, I am free to express my disdain with their lack of production, as you are free to sit and wait patiently without being a condescending douchebag. I will continue to be frustrated as legitimate chances for them to make their return pass, so feel free to ignore my posts.
wasn't intending to come off as condescending, but it happens. take a look at your original post, it did seem a bit... whiny.

i think it's natural for artists to decline in the frequency with which they release music/are visibly active as they age, and it's not like they were exactly popping them out in the first place. not that Daft Punk is that old, but they have been making music for over 15 years--we're damn lucky they're still together in the first place.

maybe i'm less bothered about it because for me Daft Punk has always been a "omg this is so cool and awesome and <3333333" manic period and then a cooling off period where i haven't forgotten or started to tire of them, but they're less in the forefront of my life. sooner or later, another release or something comes out to rekindle the fire. i know there are plenty of fans that have been supporting DP for longer than i have, but i've loved them for over 10 years, so i can say that much.

like a lot of people, i was in on an ALIVE high from late 2006 well into 2008, but since then it's quite obvious that they have no intention of playing live in the near future--especially after previously touring their entire catalog and only adding a single film score to their discography in the meantime, so there's nothing *to* perform--at least nothing that would likely be on the level of their last tour. (and i know that you're also bemoaning the lack of production/releases, but a) come on, Tron was only last year, and b) this thread is about the deluded impression that they will play Coachella--no seriously this time!--which has happened every year since 2006.)

point is we'll hear from them again sooner or later, so may as well save your breath complaining about it.

Anyway, I don't see why people get their hopes up every year. They did the Cochella show ONCE and it was 6 years ago. At what point did people start seeing a pattern and expecting them to be on the bill every year that they announce the line up?
    lol

    this.

i think it's a bit misguided to blame Daft Punk for the "schemes" you mention since they're entirely fan created. it's not like they're Justice, stringing fans along with the promise of a new album for three years before finally coming out with one.

as for declining the opportunity of Coachella, shrug. they don't really have anything to play, so i honestly don't understand why people think it's going to keep happening with the way things currently stand. it's honestly one of my biggest annoyances in the fandom.

Re: Daft punk will NOT play at Coachella this year. :(

I already stated in my newyears wishes, It's not rocket science to know that people are getting inpatient. But then again, remembering alive 2006 and alive 2007 is priceless, and for those who missed it, just keep your hope running. I waited since the release of One More Time to see them live. That was also a 6-7 year waiting period.

I did, and still do think that having new materials for a new live performance is not necessary. There are alot of songs that weren't used during alive 2006, 2007 and including the new Tron material a really great new live-gig can pop up.

The only think that I really can't seem to fit is why they announced on Daftalive.com that they would tour again, and never had any clarification on this.

i've also thought about this, and while i can't think of anything to explain it, i always thought it was untrustworthy, because of the way it was written, from what i recall there were spelling or typo errors and in general the tone sounded a bit... off. certainly nothing that sounded very official and polished. wasn't that announcement made hastily to defuse the whole Shanghai gig scam anyway? i was somewhat hopeful that it might be true, but never fully trusted in it.

I agree! And I also doubt very much that claim will be verified, daftalive.com seems like a site that was set up to promote the album and other daft stuff for the duration of the tour.

Guys. Stop going at each other's throats and whinging about Daft Punk being lazy or whatever. As aforementioned, perhaps they haven't anything to go on for a new album. or maybe they're taking time out to raise their families. Leave them alone.

I'm addressing this particularly to new members of the forum who might have discovered Daft Punk's music recently and are bitching for a new album: Sit down and shush.

Honestly, this kind of crap really pisses me off.

hahahaha new members doesn't mean new fan...lol

All I am saying is, you can only wait so long until people aren't paying attention anymore, and then, BOOOOOM they release a new album and all is forgiven...lol

Sorry if I came off a bit angry, its only because the wait is frustrating and I really really want any sort of NEWS....

And trust me, if they did play at Coachella, even if it was old material, people would be going freaking nuts because Daft Punk is timeless.
