"Daft Punk" - Dazed & Confused, December 1996

Here's a little article from just before Homework's release. There's not much revealed here (although there is a funny picture where Guy-Man is either intentionally or unintentionally flipping us all the bird,) but then they were really just getting started. It's interesting how Guy-Man says, about their career, "it's just a small path we've followed for three years. We're musicians. We're not writers. We make music." They've always been pretty adamant that they're not just musicians. He probably means they're not songwriters or lyricists, but more into just the music, especially after their attempt at making rock didn't last very long.

Of course at that time, they probably had no idea that one day they would be writers, not only of songs but films as well, or that Daft Punk would exist into the present. It's always fascinating to look back to the beginning to see how far they've come; that some things may have changed over time, but they're still as innovative and in the same spirit now as they were fifteen years ago.

I love you too. Just keeping vigilant on eBay and buying anything that looks new and interesting. Lots of times I'll aim for a specific time period, like I'll get anything from 1997. I think Daft Punk before they became robots is something a lot of people haven't seen or thought about as much, unless they are already fairly well into them or were even fans at that time. And it's interesting to make comparisons and watch how DP has progressed over the years.

I also look for gap years, like 1998 to 2000, or 2002 to 2006. Articles from those periods usually aren't very good (mostly just short album reviews.) But what they were up to between major albums is largely undocumented, so sometimes you find out about something obscure that you didn't know before. I always hope for anything I can find about Human After All. Mostly you only read about it in interviews focusing on Electroma or Alive 2007. But an article purely about HAA: I think I've really only found 1 so far. Thomas and Guy-Man purposefully avoided doing publicity for HAA when it came out, so they're very rare.

Haha, if that were the case, that would be a good reason for the helmets.
