Re: Thomas Build For My little Bro!
8th Mar 2012, 02:40 #41I meant, will you be using your master mold to cast the helmet, and then finishing the cast. If you are only doing one run, your best bet would be to just dremel it.

It is already unfolded and ready to be printed off. Just remember that you may need to rescale it first

5th Apr 2012, 03:35 #50Hey ohhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!! Time for a big update gentleman, HOLD ON TO YOUR BUTTS!
A lot has happened since I last posted here. The mouth has been cut out and the visor has been dremeled out. The sanding is almost done, too!

I'm not sure if I'm still gonna do the smiley mouth........I have learned from the past to leave well enough alone, so I don't think I want to try it. Sorry guys! Maybe if I get a spike of self confidence in the next few days, I'll see what I can do.
The visor has also been dremeled out. That was a fun experience! By the time I was done, I could barely see out of my glasses from all the dust. Wear a mask, Kiddies!
I also bought some acrylic plastic for the visor, which I plan to make a buck for to shape the curvature. I know most people use PETG, but I prefer the thickness of acrylic and also....it's more accurate, as The real helmet's visors were done in acrylic plastic.
The only hurdle left to tackle is the ear pucks, but I know somebody who might let me use his lathe for it....so that will hopefully be a productive experience. I also plan to do the mid seam in the next couple of days.
I'm really happy to almost see this project finished. All the sanding, time, and money has definitively paid off! Thanks to everyone for the comments, they keep me motivated! Next stop.....priming, wet sanding, painting, tinting, gluing, carving......some more sanding.......Oh...and I need to make a visor buck!
Still lots to do! Stay tuned...................
( I'm so sorry for the horrible pics guys! I plan on buying a better camera soon!)
