Take into consideration that the CEO of UNICEF makes $470k/yr, the CEO of Red Cross makes $1.03million/yr, and the CEO of United Way makes $375k/yr (all of this published 2011). Compared to those so-called humanitarian organizations their $90k/yr seems very tiny, even if they are a much smaller company. I recommend people actually do their research instead of just taking other peoples' words.
Nah dude, I've done days worth of research into both sides and I can't really find a single redeeming quality of this campaign. The sentiment behind it is good yes, but every aspect of it is sketchy and suspicious. The using most of the money for marketing and advertising instead of it going to the people who need it, the supporting rival militia who have just as bad reports of raping and looting and not choosing to arrest them as well, the posing with rocket launchers for pictures which means they support armed intervention which is just gonna take many more lives than necessary, they waiting till long after Kony was active and all this happened to start this "campaign" to arrest him, the campaign coinciding with the election year and happening during prime election season which seems to be a way to get them more noticed, etc. etc.

Really how do they plan to go about this anyway? Uganda doesn't want us interfering in this cause at best it's only gonna piss Kony off and he might just start up all this again. He definitely deserves to be arrested and tried and imprisoned but I certainly wouldn't wanna risk causing a lot more suffering to the people there when they seem to have a little bit of peace at the moment just so we can pat ourselves on the back for catching another Hitler.

Really this has been going on in Africa for a LONG TIME and you'd be hard pressed to not have heard about it for years now. Taking out one guy out of hundreds just like him isn't going to change anything, you gotta start at the base and work your way up. If anything pressure from the international community should be put on the local governments to build themselves up and suppress such people from their positions of power.

    Re: Kony 2012

"Spreading the Word" is basically a free service of the web 2.0 nowadays, if done correctly. This whole Kony thing is totally suspicious and won't do anything because structures of the clans and warlords in africa are somehow built like a mafia network around the whole country (as far as i remember seeing this in some documentary), which is not touched by anything done on the internet around here in the "first world". The internet doesn't even reach the regions where this would really matter. And besides of that the soldiers still have their guns and as someone said already, actions speak louder than words and that counts for the "good" guys aswell as for the "bad guys" (can be seen in syria or in the iran for example).

Another point is important, too : It might sound stupid when i ask that but why would you need all that stuff for only making a person (in)famous ? Why the donations when the project actually has been around for about 8 years (according to the video) ? As i said becoming famous or with something like that isn't really hard if you do it correctly. And it obviously worked well when i look at my twitter and facebook timelines. It just took a SINGLE video.

The reason it worked for the arabic revolutions that were going on last year is because it could reach the people and they could show actual physical presence (and also because they have had enough of their dictators). Another reason that the internet can be useful is also the fact that it can carry infromation out of the country which would otherwise be locked completely because of restrictions their government forces.

So if the reason for all this was really just to get him famous (for whatever it is useful) then i'd like to be proven wrong. BUT i really do not think it will have any use at all, as sad the situation in africa is, i just cannot imagine it.

    I'm out.

    Re: Kony 2012

I've heard this in my school. It's great that now everyone in the whole damn world knows about it. The bad thing is now people and even uguandians or whatever are going against it. It's every sad. Even one of the co-founders got himself arrested for jacking off in public. You guys brought up good suggestions. If only the video never got viral (NOT saying it was a bad thing in the first place) the small but powerfull communty can help stop Kony, without the presure of everyone else in their way.

    This post seems very unorganized.......
