Oh yeah, kinda forgot to post this...
3rd Apr 2012, 04:49 #1Well guys, I kinda forgot to post this (just read the title) so here it is. My thomas. It honestly kinda looks crappy, it's really lumpy because, well I'm lazy. Also, it's a bit too small, but whatever. It works! And I never got around to tinting the visor either. Anyways, I plan on redoing this in the summer, or at least when Minnesota warms up a bit while I'm out of school. Anyways, here it is. That. That was a good rambly explanation right there. Pretty sure this was luchofunk files.
It started out innocently enough. Oh yeah, I should probably mention these pics are gonna look like crap because of Samsung's "Super high tech gravity touch"

High tech stuff right there. Found out the foam part comes out of skateboard helmets if you try hard enough.

Yeah you can see my Hawaiian coconut monkey change jar in this one.

Main reason I failed. Threw bondo at it like an idiot. Not to mention I ran out of the gold premium stuff halfway through and had to try and get my mom to drive me to Walmart for like a week.

Primer didn't look bad.

Then I painted it silver and it got that effect of being wrapped in tinfoil. Badly. And not the shiny side either.

Padded the sh*t out of it.

With my buddies beginning of a pep guy man.

Ah well, it turned out horribly, but all in all, not bad for like a week's worth of work. If that. Hope you guys enjoyed. Comments/feedback appreciated. Just don't be that one guy who, when the teacher says there are no wrong answers, strives to find the wrong answer. Then gets told it's not wrong. Because.......just don't do that.Last edited by Ice Cream Kid; 3rd Apr 2012 at 04:51. Reason: 'Cause I wanted to! Is that not good enough for you?? *Makes noises of rage/ assumes rage expression*

3rd Apr 2012, 17:49 #3you werent joking when you said lumpy lol a bit of sanding would have solved that and made the helmet look a thousand times better imo :-)

3rd Apr 2012, 23:20 #4Yeah, I know I shoulda sanded more, but after like 2 hours and getting this result, I threw *placed* it down, shouted *quietly said because it was 2 in the morning and my family was asleep* "RAGE QUIT!!" :P I'll get some more pics up later of the inside (It's epic pants) and onea those generic d-baggy facebook "Cell phone in the bathroom mirror profile pics" for size reference and whatnot.

Re: Oh yeah, kinda forgot to post this...
3rd Apr 2012, 23:24 #5Yeah.........your 1st attempt at anything will never be amazing. When I first started making these helmets about 1 year ago, the first thing my friend said is it's a learning experience, and it truly is. Let me just tell you that your first or second helmets won't be all that great....but as time progresses....if you keep trying, you'll will someday have an awesome piece.
Just stay focused and dedicate yourself. Also, don't cut corners! If you takes you 4 hours to sand the thing......take the time and do it right. This applies to the whole thing.
I hope you continue to work on this helmet or future helmets. Practice makes perfect!!!!!!!

4th Apr 2012, 00:52 #6Oh yeah, no problem with the keep working thing, I'm rebuilding this in the summer or something (See first post) but in the meantime, you guys are just gonna have to deal with an update

K, so here's the single headphone (Bit too small for both too fit, maybe the next one)

Second, gotta mic in there :3

Third, as promised, D-baggy facebook profile pic type picture

Yep, this is what happens when i get bored, AND productive. Otherwise when I'm bored I just play with the interwebs.

And if you can't tell, it's white. Tron-style. Only cheap. Because I'm broke. So I used some Mau5 style epic pants diy skill visor. And dug around in the basement.
So that's it for now, maybe I'll do more next time an idea hits me.Last edited by Ice Cream Kid; 4th Apr 2012 at 00:55. Reason: Cause. I wanted to. N stuff. Oh yeah, I bought some donuts today :3

4th Apr 2012, 21:29 #7Alright you guys, I've been thinking quite a lot, and I've decided I'm just gonna start with a pep file.....like now. Because *insert sarcastic tone* I'm gonna be so busy in the summer and won't be able to do it then. But truthfully, I'm just seriously impatient. And all you guys are really REALLY good at this stuff, so if you guys wanna help me out, that'd be great. A few questions. First, and this is a dumb one, any particular glue/adhesive or anything that works the best with pep building? And any specific way to do it? After the paper's together where do I go from there? I've heard that you should fiberglass, bondo, resin, etc, not in that order, but what exactly do I do for these? After its pretty solid (and with the resin or whatever, how many layers 'til it's solid?) I know crank, you said to rondo it, but I don't quite understand the whole process. Anyways, this is a long, stupid post that basically just says, I know nothing please teach me the ways of the awesome. Well, thanks in advance you guys

4th Apr 2012, 23:06 #8Okay, i'm just gonna throw a whole bunch of threads at you. I would love to explain it myself.....but it would probably take me a while.
For the glue.....liquid glue is fine. Some people use hot glue, but sometimes hot glue raises some problems during the resin stage.
For all your Pep questions and curiosities, I suggest you check out this mega thread on the rpf; All of your questions can be answered there:
http://www.thereplicapropforum.com/f...s-first-87056/
Rondo is a simple process of combining equal parts bondo and Fiberglass resin into a kind of slushable mix. Here is a thread with pics to help:

Don't feel bad about not knowing much: We were all there at some point!!!
If you have any more questions, shoot!!!
