Re: Downloading .rar files. Help?
7th Apr 2012, 02:54 #11lol no worries. It is kind of fun actually

So how have you done it exactly so far ? Could you tell me the the exact steps ? I'd like to reproduce the error. Maybe you got some virtual drives running ? Maybe there is a conflict going on.

Re: Downloading .rar files. Help?
7th Apr 2012, 03:14 #12Perhaps. Alright, so I began by double-clicking the first file of the 5 on Mediafire. Dowload commenced normally once prompted. Once the Download completed, I double-clicked the file from the Chrome Downloads bar, as I would any other file. The file appears instantly in Winrar, along with a File Folder titled "..". I right click the file and select "Extract to the Specified Folder". I leave the default extraction settings, and select a destination for the archive, which as I type, I have decided is going to be on my USB stick [which likes to corrupt things, but that's not the issue] due to little room left on my main hard drive. And now it's asking me to replace the mp4 because there is a copy from my previous extraction attempt...and after some extracting action, this happens, and has happened every single time before:

At this point, I would always just re-select the destination...but to no avail. I always have to stop the extraction. And...I believe I have found the problem. Other than the required volume being absent.

God donut...
Re: Downloading .rar files. Help?
7th Apr 2012, 03:23 #13Okay i see your mistake.
Some archives are split into several sub-archives (this can have reason like upload size limitation) which are building up on each other. This means you cannot extract them without having their other parts inside the same folder. This is why your winrar always demands another volume but can't find it because it is not in the same folder. So the solution is : Download ALL parts, put them ALL in the same folder, then click ONLY on part 1 and the archive should open normally.

Re: Downloading .rar files. Help?
7th Apr 2012, 03:24 #14Thank you for your help and patience, BurnerMan. It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. I just tried that, and I also tried running a repair on the files, which worked up to the point where I could access 3 volumes after hitting the browse button. But alas, the files are corrupted. Not really much I can do about it. Which kinda sucks after trying for a couple hours, but it was an educational first experience with .rar files. Thanks again, +rep to you and ecookies for life.
