Re: Help finding a good quality poster to purchase?
24th Apr 2012, 22:29 #11What's the policy on creating your own prints? I know it's illegal to print works from professional photographers without their written consent but what if it's just for your own personal use (such as simply hanging it on your wall)? It's not being sold or distributed in any way so does that still count...? I'd really like to go to a shop and get a nice big poster-sized print of this picture, since I have a high quality version of it:

But I just don't know if that's allowed! D;(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧ ~ XX / X ~

24th Apr 2012, 22:31 #12look at ebay...almost all of the posters being sold on there are stolen works. as for the print well depends on the place, some places may do it, some may not.

Re: Help finding a good quality poster to purchase?
24th Apr 2012, 22:41 #13Oh, I suppose that's true. I just hope printing my own poster isn't considered stealing as well? If I knew who took the photograph I'd ask them about prints, but I have no idea who takes all the different pictures out there, except of course for the ones from magazine articles. I wish this was a lot easier to do than it is at the moment.

24th Apr 2012, 22:50 #14well to be honest, its up to you, either way you look at it, it can be considered stealing, but also, if its personal, its "technically" not so...its at your discretion

Re: Help finding a good quality poster to purchase?
25th Apr 2012, 16:22 #15i got a daft punk poster from amoebas for $25. it's the lighter of 2 versions of the posters they sold at the Alive 2007 show in los angeles. numbered and a small small signature from the artist. (of the poster, not daft punk. though i wouldn't mind that either.)
Re: Help finding a good quality poster to purchase?
26th Apr 2012, 01:45 #16I don't think it's such a big deal just to print something off for your own personal use..As TB said, on ebay pretty much everything is stolen and DP's people haven't really done anything about it.

Re: Help finding a good quality poster to purchase?
9th Jul 2012, 07:53 #18I'm sure as long as you're not selling them like crazy, it's not considered illegal. I'm sure if the legal peoples really wanted, those cats on Ebay would get sued or their stuff would get taken down for selling unofficial posters of copyrighted material.
Though if and when you pay to have it printed, not sure if that'd still be considered a copyright violation.
But I guess you're only paying to have the poster printed, not actually buying the photo or anything...
IDK Don't ask hard questions! >__<
Sorry for bumping a 2/3 month old thread =S
Re: Help finding a good quality poster to purchase?
9th Jul 2012, 08:37 #19sorry to put it bluntly, but you're wrong. it's illegal.
whether or not you'll get caught/punished is an entirely different thing, though. you are unlikely to get caught, but that doesn't make it somehow legal.
at least some print shops make you sign a release if you are copying or printing artwork as insurance that you are only using their copying/printing services for works you've created and own the copyright to. i can't say whether the shop you might use would ask for this sort of thing, or if they would refuse you service, but again, it's not legal. you do it at your own risk.
