    A few questions for research

Remove this ad: become a supporter
Hi, my name is Gisela and as part of a class at university I have to do field research on a topic in electronic dance music - in short I'll be having a look at this forum. I hope you don't mind. Also please forgive me if I appear ignorant or uninformed, I probably am because edm is not actually a familiar environment for me (daft punk just happen to be the only artists I had ever heard of before I took this class).

I hope this is the correct part of the forum to post this.

So anyway, topic of this week is interviews, surveys and questionnaires. I have come up with a few questions for you to answer if you'd be so kind. You don't have to answer them all or in order, just please mark somewhere which question you're answering. I'm sure there's threads on some of my questions that I just have not found right away, please pin point me in that case.

    Questions:
    1. Where are you from?/What's your native language? If it's not English, where did you learn English?
    2. How did you come up with your forum name?
    3. How did you come to know Daft Punk?
    4. Where/How do you listen to Daft Punk?
    5. How did you find out about this forum?
    6. In what way does this forum influence your choice and experience of music?

Thanks for your time and attention
    Spica

Re: A few questions for research

    1. i am from the usa and my native language is english 3. ive been listening to them since 2001 not really knowing who they really were until a couple of years ago. since then ive started to grow a very large appeal to most electronic music such as boys noize,deadmau5, justice, etc. 4. i listen to them wherever i can. 5. i learned about this forum simply by looking up daft punk on google. 5. this forum has influenced my hate for david guetta and most mainstream music. even before i came here i realized that most music thats popular isnt clever at all.

    Come on now!

    1. USA, and yes, I'm a native English speaker.
    2. I've had it for a while, used it on a number of forums. I came up with the phrase when I was a kid; I think it had something to do with Pokemon.
    3. Stumbled across the live version of HBFS in the "recommended" section on iTunes one day, remembered seeing the One More Time video when I was younger, looked up Interstella, and it's been love ever since.
    4. Just about anywhere! Though I think it should go without saying that nowadays it's on an MP3 player.
    5. Another user (DJPixcell) set up a far less successful forum which I was one of the few members of. When he discovered this site, I followed him over.
    6. In short: Daft Punk are the reason I fell in love with music, this board is the reason I stay in love with it. It's one of the few music forums I've ever seen that could be described as completely "nice" - it's all about loving music, not hating the styles you don't love.

I hope my answers were helpful!

    1. Uhmurcah! I speak Uhmurcan!
    2. I've used this username since the Usenet days. I think it's Estonian for "vortex" or something.
    3. My first encounter with the music was from Kitten Cannon in '05 or '06. It was a year later when I actually found out the name of the artist, and it's history since then.
    4. I only listen to DP at my parents' house with my laptop or turntable playing through my studio reference monitors. (I only have the Discovery album on vinyl.) Since I'm not there too often, it truly adds to the sanctity of the music.
    5. Google led me here, after I became interested in Thomas and Guy's identity behind their helmets.
    6. I almost exclusively listen to the French/filter house genre these days, as well as the other genres attempted by either of the members.
Last edited by Vortico; 30th Apr 2012 at 00:15. Reason: Changed link of Kitten Cannon to original version. The designer later removed the song due to fear of copyright issues.

Re: A few questions for research

    1. Where are you from?/What's your native language? If it's not English, where did you learn English?
From Australia, and I speak english as my 'native' langauge.

    2. How did you come up with your forum name?
I wanted to think of something awesome, because I knew I'd be sticking around here for some time. So I thought, hey, I'll be 'something awesome'! I'd probably change it now if I could go back though. I think it's too long.

    3. How did you come to know Daft Punk?
A friend humming stronger by Kanye West...I know, it's shameful.

    4. Where/How do you listen to Daft Punk?
Everywhere. In the car, my room, while DJing, etc etc.

    5. How did you find out about this forum?
When I was first looking into them, googling questions etc, this site kept coming up and it seemed like a cool place.

    6. In what way does this forum influence your choice and experience of music?
It's good to get opinions from other Daft Punk fans. I think if I hadn't joined here I wouldn't have found out about a lot of artists in the other artists forum section. Yeah.

-Just wanted something generic, something I can remember well.

    1. Where are you from?/What's your native language? If it's not English, where did you learn English?
From England, we are lazy so only speak English. But hey, we invented it!

    2. How did you come up with your forum name?
I was in an electronic music group called Strobe, my name is Nik so I put them together to make me sound like some kind of Jedi Knight. Strobe doesn't exist anymore as I went solo with 'Autobeat' but I still like the name.

    3. How did you come to know Daft Punk?
One of my best friends had just started listening to them around 4 years ago, i went round his to chill and noticed he'd drawn their logo. I recognised it and I had heard some of their music before, from then we both started listening to them non stop and everything Daft Punk just swamped my life. From then on I was obsessed!

    4. Where/How do you listen to Daft Punk?
Any way possible. At home, on my PC, at work. On my iPod, in my car... I DJ too and of course always have to drop in some Daft Punk.

    5. How did you find out about this forum?
    Google

    6. In what way does this forum influence your choice and experience of music?
I've always loved sharing and discussing music, experiencing the excitement of it all with others. This forum has been a great way to do that and also discovering new things.
