In a sense, he committed suicide. He was so depressed that they could not become Human That Thomas literally gave up. Guy Man pulling the switch was kind of like an act of sympathy...He realized that his friend was going through pain. The scene where Guy keeps walking in front of Thomas just shows that Thomas was trying to give up but Guy kept encouraging him to keep going. Eventually, Thomas stops.
