Hello everyone! ^^
16th May 2012, 17:39 #1Hello!
I'm CherieD'Amoure, and I joined TDC a few moments ago. I have been following the forum since December, and just screwed up enough courage to join today. Lol
I don't have a lot of friends who are into DP or electronic music, so I thought it would be fun to hang out with cool folks like you.
A little about myself:
- Working on my undergrad Music Education degree, hoping to pursue a Masters.
- Wanting to teach middle school band or elementary music classes one day.
- Guess what my favorite Crydamoure song is? lol
- I have been a DP and Gorillaz fan since I was 10. (Bless Toonami Midnight Run and all its perfection.)
- I have grapheme-color synesthesia. (When I recall numbers they have a specific color. ex. 3.14 = Red, white, green. Also works for musical keys, ie. D Major - purple. Lightens or darkens color when adding a sharp or flat, respectively)
- Trying to figure out if I have sound-color synesthesia. I only "see" colors and shapes when listening to instrumental electronic or classical. Lyrical songs have a color, but not much else. (Da Funk is purple with some dashes of yellow, white, and black.)
- Uhm, I like sweets. And Nutella.
I'm happy to be here, and I hope you all have a great day!

17th May 2012, 20:14 #4Is it unusual to picture colours when listening to music? I have always had colours that go along to music for me. I never stopped to think if anyone else did, actually. To me Da Funk is mostly Green and Yellow for me. I have never really paid any attention to it, but songs are always a specific colour to my brain...huh...anyway, welcome to the club.

@AnonymsDogMan: I have wondered that myself. I have noticed the colors with music since late grade school. Most of my friends who I've spoken about this to don't really associate color to music, so maybe it is rare. 18th May 2012, 06:25 #6Ooh! I've heard of your condition! Some people in few cases see not only color, and also taste something along with the sound. I remember watching a documentary on it! Ahhh, I never thought I'd meet someone with it! Welcome to the forums!
And sweets yes, sweets are good. c:<

18th May 2012, 06:56 #7Condition!? What?
I never really thought anything of it, now all of a sudden I hear it is rare...da fu*k...?
At least it doesn't affect my life in any major way.

18th May 2012, 09:38 #8Wow..I always associate colours with songs. Like, Aerodynamic is yellow with sparley red, one more time is light blue. Do I have sound-color synesthesia?!?!

18th May 2012, 14:48 #9@Electronic: Yay!
It's very nice to meet you too! *hug* I'm glad I can make lots of friends here. I've only met one other person who has it since I've been to college. Even better that she is a music major too; we geek out about music, art, and colors. lol
@AnonymsDogMan: Hm, I've never really thought of it as a medical condition either. The worst it has made me do is completely space out in Music History once. We played a Beethoven piano piece (Op. 109) and suddenly I see blue, white, and green like an endless blue sky with clouds & grass. It was very sharp, like a photograph. That has been the most vivid experience; pretty sure I was gawking at "nothing" until the piece ended looking like O____O
@Something awesome: Maybe! It's a sort of unconscious thing from what I have read on it. Numbers always have set colors for me; I can say 6 is orange or 4 is green without a doubt because I "see" it when I recall the number. Music is more finicky. I hear it, and I can see a 2-D canvas or 3-D box based on how the sound is engineered.
(deadmau5's Orca is a 3-D one, since there are sounds that fade away into the distance, and the shape/colors shrink back into the distance).

I took this test out of boredom a few weeks ago so see if I was going nuts or not. (Make sure you have an hour to blow or so!) It seems to be fairly reliable since it stems from university research. I didn't care for the color choosers on the chord test since I see multiple colors with multiple sound, but eh."No art is so subject to indiscriminate judgement as music." - Johann Joachim Quantz

20th May 2012, 16:42 #10Are you sure you are not being influenced by remembering the video clips? It's just that the "One More Time" video is primarily light blue, and the "Aerodynamic" video is red-ish. I dunno, could just be a coincidence.
I was thinking about if there are other influences that effect what I see when I hear music. It is hard to say. I have never thought about this before, and now I probably thinking about this way too much.
I don't know why I "see" (more think if that makes any sense) certain colours when I hear songs. But another vivid one that is coming to mind is Deadmau5's "More Ghost n Stuff" which is very yellow, with a bit of green, and "Ghost n Stuff" featuring Rob Swire, is very purple with blue mixed in. But the original mix without Rob
Swire's voice, is just purple. So I guess Rob Swire's voice is blue in that song? I dunno. I don't know what is going on now. And now that I am thinking about it for the first time. I can't figure it out.
Also I said that Da Funk is always Green and Yellow for me, but I kinda remembered that that synth line that comes in at 2:25 is always more red orange. I DUNNO! MY HEAD HURTS NOW! Gah!
