Help with puffy paint
10th Aug 2012, 01:40 #1I was thinking of putting this in the Q/A Thread, but it's not DP related sooo....
I'm working with puff paint for something I'm doing right now. Honestly I've never worked with this stuff until now. I've done a test on a piece on red fabric using red and black paint, which showed great results. Now that I've gone on to blue fabric with the blue paint, the paint seeps through and seems very watery. The red paint seems to work just a bit better on the blue fabric. So anyone that might know about this stuff, am I doing something wrong? Or is this product just defected?

Trying to get it like this

I'm using lycra, by the way. Sorry if this is a stupid question. Thanks.

Re: Help with puffy paint
10th Aug 2012, 09:13 #6are you sure the blue is still puff paint? it could be a combination of the blue paint being slightly different to the red paint or the fabric used on the red sample being different from the sample for blue. the structure of the fabric/weave on the blue material may be preventing the paint from standing possibly.
if you haven't already, read the fine print on your paint bottles. they should tell you which fabrics will yield the best results.

Re: Help with puffy paint
10th Aug 2012, 23:31 #7The blue is puff paint. However you may be right, as the blue fabric is just a little bit thinner than the red. I didn't think it would have such a big impact though. It was the only blue lycra the fabric store had at the time that matched the right tone.

Re: Help with puffy paint
11th Aug 2012, 03:50 #8are the red and blue paints made from the same brand? even within the same brand, sometimes paints will vary in consistency due to the different pigments for the colors. sometimes the pigment can change the chemical stuff that's necessary for the vehicle (the part of the paint that holds the pigment and makes it liquid-y). of course if they're different brands, that could also explain the difference. i'm thinking the fabric structure will have a lot to do with it, though.

11th Aug 2012, 05:22 #9To help try and figure out if its the paint or the fabric, you could try blue paint on the red fabric sample, and red and black paint on the blue fabric
