Favourite Genre(s)?
17th Aug 2012, 10:29 #1Hi TDC members, just thought I might ask what your genre(s) is/are and why. I enjoy any type of House music, Electroclash, Chiptune and although people call it "trash" or "rubbish", I also enjoy Dub/Brostep. All in all, I like most genres...... except Explicit Rap and whatever you want to call what Nicki Minaj makes.

Re: Favourite Genre(s)?
17th Aug 2012, 11:37 #2Dude, everything. House, dubstep, breaks, ambient, idm, rap (depends), pop (depends even more), trip hop, glitch hop, rock, metal (from led zeppelin to cannibal corpse), jazz, and even some older stuff like elvis and the beatles. The only genre I've yet to hear a song from that I liked, is country. Not saying it's bad....I just can't find any redeeming qualities about it. haha

Re: Favourite Genre(s)?
17th Aug 2012, 13:31 #3Probably my favorites right now are chiptune and techno. But I also enjoy ambient, house, trance, spacesynth, drum and bass at about the same level. I like dubstep and other electronic music genres but I have yet to explore them properly. I also like heavy metal, jazz and classical music.

Re: Favourite Genre(s)?
17th Aug 2012, 18:17 #7being a part of my uni's greek life got to me. all i hear are songs like that, and after the third frat house in one night plays starships, you start to tolerate it and eventually enjoy it. ahh well.
that depends on where in pennsylvania you are. pennsylvania is philly, pitt, and alabama in between. philly and pitt don't quite openly tolerate country music. i almost never hear it here unless i go looking for it.

17th Aug 2012, 20:01 #8I mostly like House music in general, French and Classic are my all-time favourite. I also like Alternative Rock, this is why I liked a lot Justice's new album, is like a mix of both genres.

Re: Favourite Genre(s)?
17th Aug 2012, 21:16 #9Welcome to my life, dear. I don't hate it, per se. I have listened to it for years by default since my mom loves the genre, but I can't say I love it. There are good songs and there are funny ones, but the new artists are all starting to sound the same.
I am open to most types of electronic music, really. I have only gotten some back synesthetic reactions from weird, drawn out pitch bends in some songs (read: David Guetta's "Lunar" = pretty purple to sick green), but I like the experimental quality of it: it's a new frontier in popular music, but quality songs go back decades. I thought I'd hate dubstep after listening to some bad selections on Pandora, but I rather like Skrillex's sound. It's very animated.
Classical/orchestral is amaaazing, IMHO. It's like listening to a master's painting: so much detail, expression, and emotion crafted into a collection of sounds. Gahhh, makes me happy.
Also, 70's funk/disco/what-have-you because it's darn happy. I love me some Bee Gees."No art is so subject to indiscriminate judgement as music." - Johann Joachim Quantz
