New remix competition : Aerodynamic vs around the world !!
1st Sep 2012, 10:03 #1
More info here : http://daftclub.fr/2012/09/01/compet...und-the-world/
Here is the new competition organized by Daftclub.fr !! This time the challenge is a bit different, you have to create a mash-up between two Daft Punk’s tracks namely, Aerodynamic and Around The World.
For this competition there are two categories :
- Composition : where we will evaluate your composition and studio skills.
- Live Performance : where we will evaluate your virtuosity. You can play your mash-up with any controller (Novation launchpad, Akai Mpc, Lemur, even your keyboard if you want).
BEWARE !! Make sure to put both tracks on the same key : Aerodynamic is B and Around The World is A.
So you can either : transpose Aerodynamic by -2st, or transpose Around The World by +2st, or transpose Aerodynamic by -1st and Around the World by +1st. Or transpose Aerodynamic by +1t, and Around The World by + 3st etc …
EDIT : actually, there is a difference of 1.5st between the tracks. That means to put them together you should transpose Aerodynamic by -1.5st ; or Around The World by +2 and Aerodynamic by +0.5st
That's because Aerodynamic isn't quite on the normal pitch (it's -0.5 off pitch).
I'll post a quick mash-up later to illustrate that point.
RULES :
- You must create a mash-up (or bootleg) between Aerodynamic and Around The World
- You cannot use another music from Daft Punk or another band.
- You can create new melodies and rythm (as in a remix).
- You must upload your production on Soundcloud.com and share it with the group “Daft Club”. And if you want to enter the Live Performance category you need to send the link of the streaming video by commenting this post.
PERIOD OF SUBMISSION :
You can submit the remix for the competition from today, until the Sunday 30 September at 23h59 (UTC -10).
That’ means any remix posted after that date (30 September at 23h59 UTC -10) will not be eligible.
The result of the competition will be communicate a few days later, depending on the number of remixes submitted.
You can use any ressources you want (as long as they come from Around The World or Aerodynamic) from the Daftabase : http://daftclub.fr/daftabase/
More ressources will be post later, like the Aerodynamic Beats synths made by Burnerman54 !!
Oh, yeah one more thing... The winner(s) will win a really nice prize, but I'll tell you later when it's ready ^^
Any question ??

Re: New remix competition : Aerodynamic vs around the world !!
1st Sep 2012, 10:35 #2Nice! Very promising competition. I love that you have a live performance competition as well, even though I prefer using "studio skills" myself, haha. I look forward to hearing some sweet mash-ups and seeing some cool performances!
Also, after trying this out I find that the difference in key is less than 2, more like 1.5. Can anyone confirm this? I read here on Daft Club that Aerodynamic is 50 cents lower than standard pitch.Last edited by Ridley; 1st Sep 2012 at 11:07.

Re: New remix competition : Aerodynamic vs around the world !!
1st Sep 2012, 12:13 #3Ok maybe I didn't explain well.
You can choose to enter the competition in either Studio (Composition) or Live Performance, or try both.
That means we can have two different winners. You can also make one track for the Composition category and another one for the Live Performance.
And yes there is a key problem with Aerodynamic, (0.5st) but do as you think it's good, my point was just to show that you have to consider changing the key of the tracks when doing a mash-up.
Good point I'll edit the description.
I've done a quick mash-up. Aerodynamic -1st and Around The World +1st, let me know what you think (if it sounds ok with the pitch).

1st Sep 2012, 13:23 #4Might give the live performance a go! We've got a pretty big show coming up so it'd be cool to sumbit to you a video of the mashup played live with live Aerodynamic guitar and everything

Also...I think the mashup you posted might be a bit out of key, yeah. Or is that just me?

Re: New remix competition : Aerodynamic vs around the world !!
1st Sep 2012, 13:26 #5Oh my god the pitch sounds awful. I'm gonna enter this, and I'll definitely have to do SOMETHING about that pitch.
I'm guessing original synths and stuff are okay? even for the performance category? you say "new melodies and rhythms" but that could just be reinterpretation of the original audio, I wanna clarify so I don't put some major bass and synth sounds in then find out they're off-limits haha

1st Sep 2012, 15:00 #7Ok, I'll change it again then.
@somethingawesome : Yes pure good idea !!
@needlessnoise : yes you can do that, the only thing is not using another music, like oh yeah or one more time etc... I mean the base of the competition is Around The World and Aerodynamic, so make sure we can guess they're part of it.

Re: New remix competition : Aerodynamic vs around the world !!
1st Sep 2012, 15:20 #8Ok I've changed the pitch following Ridley advices : http://soundcloud.com/daftclub/atw-vs-aerodynamic
So ATW unchanged, and Aerodynamic at -1,5st.
Let me know if it's right now.
