One of his mixtapes....wish I could find it by itself, but it doesn't appear to exist in such a way.

Fancy seeing that here! I subscribed to Gretina's Youtube channel long before the MLP craze, based upon a recommendation from Evilstereo, of all people. Needless to say I was more than a little surprised when the steady stream of amateur French house was suddenly replaced by a flood of ponies! On a whim I decided to click on this track to see if the music was still good, and I have to admit that, all opinions about the show aside, it was probably better than the flanged-out disco I originally subscribed for.
    So, yeah, A+.

In an attempt to clear that out of my system, here's what I'm listening to now:

Storytime again: I originally heard this song (in its stunning 7-minute cut) on a compilation of tracks that were apparently hot in October 1997, distributed to DJs for use in their sets. Somebody just happened to sell a copy to my local record store, where I bought it impulsively (and then proceeded to make a post about it here). It's been a big influence on me ever since, full of songs that were once big hits but for one reason or another got buried in the sands of time. This is one such track. If I'm to go by the related videos that popped up when I was searching for it on Youtube and the inevitable attempts by producers to "revive" it over the years by stripping it of all its unique qualities, it was targeted at the Hardcore audience, which means it probably never would have reached my ears were it not for this compilation. As it is, I think it really defies all the stereotypes of that genre, and even manages to appeal to some of my fine-tuned sensibilities for classic House music. It's got an incessant acid warble in the background and the drums pummel in a way that leaves me well aware of how this appealed to fans of Hardcore dance music, but the entire thing is done with incredible subtlety, and it's anchored by a wonderfully melancholy organ and, of course, those preacher vocals. That's probably the defining feature of the track: the "Grim Reaper" (as he's eerily credited) launching into a rant that's part Roland Clark from Song For Shelter, singing the praises of dance music as a religious experience, and part Jim-Jones-esque cult leader, holding a strange grip over the audience as he bids them to come closer to the speaker. Especially considering the fact that the rest of the group's discography seems to consist of stale rehashes of the song and significantly more generic Hardcore music, it stands out as a very singularly amazing track. And that's all that I have to say on the matter.

He still does French House/disco stuff, I found him through a mashup he made that was absolutley brilliant. Though most of his tracks are pony related, some of them are still french. I recomend listening to his new song *ahem* Everpony's Finaly Hard for Braeburn, it has a sample we all know http://soundcloud.com/simgretina/eve...nally-hard-for
