I see thank you, will check up on that.

Frankly baseball AND skate helmets are entirely the wrong shape anyway. If you're going to start with a pre-made helmet, the best option if you can find one cheap is what's known as a half-helmet.

    Hello Club!

I am working on making a Thomas helmet. Check out my blog pics of the work in progress.

    Thanks!

Btw a great tip I got was to use a Surform to initially sand down the helmet. It's quick and fixes any mistakes without going through a mile of sand paper
I feel a little Daft today!

So I've decided to start on Thomas. Going pretty quick so far, about a week into the project at this point. If you'd like to see more or check on some updates, you can take a look at my flickr page here

I'll toss up some pics periodically when I get to an interesting part of the build. Enjoy!

Awesome! I can't wait to see the final results. So what are your plans? Are you going to be building another LED rig for this one as well?

This will have Discovery-era illumination, with the exception of the ears (undecided at this point)

Plans are for a full front LED matrix, possibly RGB and definitely remote control via iPhone. Should be fun!

Re: Tips and Tricks for making the Helmets

    Is it picture time?!

Here's where my helmet sat earlier today:

It's got some skim coats of filler drying on the under-brim right now. Once those set up, I'll be sanding the hell out of them.

This all started as Dung0Beetle's V.1 helmet and has had major surgery, until the only part remaining of it is the visor (Soon to be modded) and part of the front of the dome. The ears are just stand ins until I can make up my good ones.

I'm really glad to see that I'm apparently the only one doing the Legacy-era ears. It helps distinguish between all the different helmets being made at the moment.

Anyway, just a short update. I'll probably do a full run through over on the RPF and/or here when I get to the molding stage.
