Are there alternatives to making the plastic visor? I've seen people do it without the vac-former, but are there specific steps for it.

Alternatives to making it from plastic, or alternatives to vac forming?

Some plastic can be formed in hot water, potentially softening the material up enough for it to be bent by hand or over a form.

If you don't want to use plastic, a thin mesh screen could be used, but it obviously won't have the same effect as a plastic visor. It'll probably also give you more difficulty in vision, especially in low light.

    Ramen or mac&cheese? I kid, I kid. I couldn't resist.

Rabid is our local hot water guru right now. He's basically solved the 'tinting without car film' problem for Guy-Man helmets, and I think he forms his visors using the method described.

Bahaha, nice one. I use to make a lot of Dango; which involves me pouring scalding hot water directly on my hands to knead the dough. So it doesn't hurt as much anymore.

I've seen plenty of ways to tint the visor, my main concern is trying to make it.

Polystyrene is quite a brittle plastic. It's often used in CD cases (for both haves, clear/opaque) and I've seen those crack plenty of times.

I believe PETG is the preferred plastic because it forms at a lower temperature and is more ductile, and therefore less prone to cracking.

It's quite a stable plastic so it shouldn't yellow/discolor with age like plexiglass (specifically stuff made more than 20 years ago).
