8th Jan 2008, 22:00 #2i'm not planning on a making a helmet, but because of previous experience i've had with other 3D pieces i've made, i think this'll be an interesting thread to stick around.
anyway, i would suggest that even better than thin cardboard/cerealboxes would be illustration board or matteboard, since they're just a little thicker, but they're also a lot sturdier. since both of those are "real" art supplies, they're probably going to be a little expensive, but you'll probably get more bang for your buck with matteboard, since it's usually sold in freaking huge sheets, so you'll have leftovers for other projects or something.
you might want to give some tips about how to attach the cardboard to itself or something, because in my experience, attaching relatively flat stuff like that at a non~right angle is hard. i used epoxy the one time i did it with foam core and besides the results not being too cool, i ended up cutting myself pretty bad when i was trying to cut off the excess epoxy to get a smooth surface.

8th Jan 2008, 23:17 #4This is a really usefull thread and I hope people can use it as a tool...
From my part, I´ve enver tryed to make the helmets, but yes, I analyzed them (because I´m a fan) ^__^
So, I learned that the Helms are based on the shape of the Dj´s.. 4 people who know theyr faces It wont be such a news...But it´s something you should have in mind when you are doing them.. of course inside they would be made of a smouth material... but if you have a big head or something.. it will be a problem... 4 example, 4 me, the Banglather Helmet would be small for me.. so I´ve no option...
If a new idea came up to me I´ll tell you first ^__^
Cya!
