My Daft costume last year (1200+ RGB LED)... Ideas for this year?
5th Oct 2010, 07:17 #1Hello.
This is my first post but here it goes.
Last year I made a daft punk costume by using some instructions posted on these forums. I made the helmet on one weekend and then made the wardrobe on the Halloween weekend. I did not have enough time to finish it correctly so this year I still have 4 weekends left to remake it. Any ideas on making it better for this year?
I seem to have lost the pictures of the helmet building and the wardrobe building and wiring, but I'm still searching for them.
Basically its a helmet made from the PDFs found online, with modeling carton, bondo and silver automotive paint and clear coat. The front shield is clear plastic with window tint. Inside there is a programable LED display capable of storing 6 messages. To sides fo the visor i have two more LED displays I took out of some t-shirts.(no pics for now sorry)
The wardrobe is made with around 1200 RGB ultra bright LEDs digitally controlled. The controller has a wireless remote control which lets me choose the speed, patterns and many other things. The LEDS are powered by 16 10,000 MaH D size batteries and 10 C batteries for the controllers. This gives me around 6+ hours of use.
Also I had 8 speakers connected to an ipod. Each pair of speakers was run with 4 AA batteries.
The white casing you see on the LED strips is silicone so the whole wardrobe is waterproof in case of drinks falling over or rain.
Here are the only pictures I could find right now. Maybe tomorrow I can get some from an earlier time. By the pictures you cannot judge how bright this thing is, but its REALLY bright. One LED is bright enough for a flashlight.

Also here is a video I found of myself. I attended a big party, suddenly the DJ lowered the music volume and asked me to go upstage (forced by many people haha), then he puts on daft punk music.

6th Oct 2010, 00:16 #6nice work on the helmet! got creative with the suit too which is nice
Yea I agree, if you have the time and feel like experimenting, buy a leather jacket and some pants and take a shot at making the encore suit, should turn out great

6th Oct 2010, 05:22 #8Encore suit with red fiber optic like ilumination is out of the question for now.
The concept is the Daft Punk Live, hence the LEDs and the speakers. Combining the two would be too complex for now.
Im thinking maybe a leather suit but have the LEDs under the suit, but I think that would take months to align the LEDs and make holes on the leather.
