Guy Manuel Helmet Build (by Halloween?)

    Hi,

I just received a helmet pull from gizmo255. He created the helmet, and I helped out along the way. Hopefully I will have this done by Halloween, but I don't know if it is possible with a full time job. It's gonna be lots of late nights.

Here is a video of me trying on the helmet to get a feel for its size:

Here is a close up of the helmet with the light sections drawn out:

So much soldering. This took longer than I expected it to:

I created my glove pieces out of PVC pipe, and then gizmo255 and I vacuum formed a set for him too. Plus, we both got backplates this way. I will be using my original PVC parts though:

Glove pieces ready for primer and paint:

Gold coat finally on the gloves:

I will be posting more pics and vids as I progress.

The paint is Valspar Brilliant Metal spray paint. I bought it at Lowes. I was looking for the Krylon Premium Chrome paint but couldn't find it at any local retailers, and I don't have time to wait for it to ship.

Today didn't seem to yield much progress, but there was a lot of work put in. I got the housing for the lighting created. Getting the right arch was very complicated, and I won't get into the in depth process. Having the proper shape now is very important because I will be installing the visor on Friday (I won't see the visor till friday because it is in a different state).

Here are pictures of the housings in and out of the helmet:

    Quick update.

I painted the light housing, and soldered in all the lighting for the color fan. I then added the foam and mylar diffusors, and installed the color gels.

I finally cut out the visor, ears, and back of neck area. I was putting this off.

Here is a pic of me working out the layout of the helmet with masking tape:

Here is a pic of the almost finished light housings:

I now have three coats of primer on the helmet, and the t-nuts glued in to attach the light housing. Still have a lot of work to do tonight. Gonna need to pull an all nighter. Luckily I took off work tomorrow, but I have a job interview and a 5 hour trip.

So all of your lighting will be static? No animations?

It will all be animated. The ends of the rainbow wires will be soldered to led chasers. And the ear EKG will move as well.

Not doneyet, but getting close. Got my visor from Gizmo today, but I didn't do a good job tinting it. I'll need to revisit this in the future. Also, I blew out my LED driver for the ear EKG meter. Not happy about that.

Here is a video of the helmet in action at the moment:
