A new option for a Thomas Display!

Hey Guys, I've been absent a while because i have been busy working on web pages and my newest helmets. I just wanted to drop in and share a discovery i made while trying to come up with a better option for a thomas display than the good ole belt buckle method. I am in the process of following the volpin / tekparasite methods of making an actual LED display but i ran out of time for halloween and wanted something better than the belt buckle. So i came across this:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-RED-LED-...ht_7081wt_1170

Now in order to get this to work the LED bar needs to be flexed into a semi-circle. I asssume doing this you may run into the possiblity of breaking it but as long as you are careful and do it slowly it should work out just fine. I then made a bracket to hold the led bar in shape and also allow me to mount it inside the helmet. I made the bracket using a piece of aluminum bar i bought from Ace Hardware. Easy to form and to cut.

The cool thing is that you can run this off of a regular 9v instead of those crappy watch batteries AND it comes with a remote to program the messages. Its a regular IR remote so you can actually look in a mirror and do the programming by pointing the remote at the mirror!

And here are some pics of how it turned out

And a short video of operation

THIS IS PERFECT! I wanted just one bar on mine and that's the exact height and width of what my helmet would need! In exchange for your discovery, I would share with you you the most stable thing I've used to make my helmet fit so far: a hard hat interior frame, which can adjust to head sizes. Just in case you struggle with foam like i do.

Guy man is a Sporgo cast. I completed both helmets from casts. including the lights in both the guy man and the thomas. I also made the gloves. I still have my original helmet and mold that i can pull casts from but these were both made from casts bought from volpin and sporgo respectively.

Nothing much really, took it apart, cut off the wire that is supposed to go to the cigarette lighter adapter and soldered on a 9v plug bought from radioshack. boom worked
